Default Does Patting a Pizza Do Any Good?

Whenever I get pizza, I usually take a couple napkins and pat up the grease on the surface - usually I wind up with 1-3 napkins that are literally transparent.

Does this actually make a difference, nutritionally? What sort of impact does it have on the fat content??

THANKS!!

Blotting the excess fat will help, though ordering your pizza with half the cheese and without meat is even better.

Phase 2 Carb Blockers, however, are another story. The claims made have not been proven, and even the FDA has been on their back for making false or misleading claims that could not be substantiated.

Here's another thread discussing carb blockers that might be helpful http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/show...55&postcount=8

Here is another great article on Phase 2 carb blockers from the University of California

I make pizza at home on a whole wheat pita--I use tomato paste, lots of vegetables and a light sprinkling of reduced fat shredded cheese. I have yet to find a ff brand that melts decently.

For ordering out, yes, I blot. I also ask for light cheese and extra sauce.

Everything I do has been mentioned - thin crust, extra sauce, non-meat toppings, and I pat. I haven't quite been able to give up half that cheese, though!

I think Pizza Hut offered a whole-wheat crust once upon a time. About ten or fifteen years ago, I think. Of course, up here in the midwest people don't eat that "hippy food", so they probably discontinued because it didn't profit.

I'm going to try to find some of that Cabot cheese. Someone at work had it once, but I've never found it in the grocery stores.

Thanks for the tip about Cabot cheese. I will definitely check for it at the store.

If you have ever read columns in magazines or anywhere "How to rid 100 calories a day" one of the ideas is to pat your pizza to sop up the grease, so even if you have to get a billion napkins at a pizzaria........DO IT! And who cares if people look at you funny(I doubt they will anyway because tons do it!!)

Any fat that you don't eat, is good!!!!!!!!!!
And yes, when I order pizza, it can use up to 3-4 nakins to soak up the fat in one slice! THAT IS GROSS!!!!!!!!!!!
Here in Australia it costs $2 extra per pizza to order 25%less fat cheese! that just sux! do they want people to be healthier or what!

I have been just making them at home lately! watching the fat dripping from pizza really turned me off it! although we have one shop that makes theirs the old fashioned way, and they are so much more nicer, and have a real good amount of topping! (pineapple, capsicum, tomato!)

Pat AWAY! those cals!!!! (even with other take out another idea is putting it on a wire rack (over a baking dish) in the oven on high for a 2-5 minutes, the fat liquidfies and drips out! Escpecially KFC!!!!!!!!!!!!, it even gets a little bit crispier, hot chips, or battered fish too.)

I also "rinse" my cooked ground beef in a colinder before using it in recipies. Sounds kinda funny, but its a great way to cut down on any extra fat/grease. Every little bit helps!!

I do the same thing. I cook the ground beef, then rinse it under hot water. They say it cuts the fat by up to 50%.

Of course! Every bit helps.
In addition to the other suggestions, I have asked pizza places to put the cheese on top of all other ingredients for 2 reasons. Firstly, it means that you can get to more of the grease to pat off the pizza. Secondly, it means that you can taste the cheese easier (especially good if you order 1/2 the cheese).
If you get pepperoni or sausage, though, I wouldn't put cheese on top b/c you want to soak up the grease from the meat, too. Any maybe moreso...

I never get pepperoni or sausage. Too much fat. If I eat pizza at all, it's usually a veggie. And if I order meat at all, I get ham
