    Hmmm, I wonder why they chose that this week?

    Actually, I can't recall them ever covering anything other then veggies. But I haven't been subscribed to their newsletter for all that long.

    Turkey is not one of my favorites, I much prefer chicken, but I will be loading up on the white meat turkey come Thanksgiving day. I probably should try and eat more of it. Any great ideas?

    My biggest habit, though, is to pick and eat the skin once it comes out of the oven. Eeeeek!
  • We brine ours then bake it. The brine helps keep moisture in. I hate dry turkey and chicken. It is just so lovely when it is brined.

    It would be good with that sweet potato from last week. Also, if you are going to have cranberry sauce, make your own. The recipe is on the back of the bag and you can make it as sweet as you want. I don't use all the sugar the recipe calls for. Also, you can substitute Splenda. I can't because boobalah can taste artificial sweetners and can't stand them.

  • The best turkey I have ever eaten was one that my sister brined. Here is a link to one recipe on the Food Network. Hers was similar to this one. She placed it in a styrofoam container overnight to brine it.

  • Hmmmmm I love turkey unfortunately I am deathly allergic to it. It makes for no fun on Thanksgiving.

  • Yup, brining makes the best turkey! I use Alton Brown's brine recipe. The problem with turkey is that it's so hard to find free-range heirloom breeds around here. They taste so much better than conventional turkeys. Yum! Yum!

    Yes, I noticed that as well. I got their newsletter bright and early Monday morning and there it was once again - the turkey that is.

    And I don't mind turkey running for 2 weeks. Considering we're all going to be eating it for that long
  • brining is the best! I always brine my chicken too- it also makes the gravy really good (but dont add salt to your gravy!) and makes really good broth. I usually make my own, but this year I used an herb one that I bought and added a bottle of white wine for some of the water. ...yummy

    I made the most delicious turkey salad yesterday. turkey, dried cranberries, celery, a little chive and then I did a little bit of mayo for the mayo flavor but added a big scoop of cottage cheese and it worked really really well to moisten it and bind it. I've never liked subbing yogurt for mayo as I think it is too sour.
  • Yup, this weeks' healthiest food is the same exact one as it was Thanksgiving week - the low fat (white meat), high protein power house - TURKEY.

    This will make the 3rd time turkey is featured. Not that I don't love turkey!
  • I've always thought that Thanksgiving and Christmas were much too close together!

    But we usually have roast lamb for christmas. Yum.
