Healthy salad dressing??

You know that salad dressing that you spritz they have been showing on tv? Know how they say it's suppose to be healthy so you? Think again! I looked at all the labels for every flavor they had in the store and they ALL contain high fructose corn syrup as the second ingredient. Even the Kraft fat free dressing I've been using has it. I checked a ton of dressing labels and they all had it as the first or second ingredient. So much for healthy. Unless this is a different type than the nasty kind used in fruit drinks. Or there isn't enough of it to matter. For now I'm gonna try Hidden Valley Light Ranch. It doesn't have any.

It may not have HFCS but it is far from "healthy"...just take a look at all these ingredients :(

Water, Vegetable Oil (Canola Oil and/or Soybean Oil), Maltodextrin, Cultured Nonfat Buttermilk, Sugar, Salt, Nonfat Milk, Modified Food Starch, Less than 2% of Phosphoric Acid, Vinegar, Garlic, Natural Flavors, Onion, Onion Puree, Garlic Puree, Egg Yolk, Monosodium Glutamate, Xanthan Gum, Spices, Artificial Flavor, Disodium Phosphate, Artificial Color, Disodium Inosinate and Disodium Guanylate, with Sorbic Acid and Calcium Disodium EDTA as Preservatives, Parsley

Making your own dressing is easy and you can control the ingredients to insure that it is all healthy!

Oh? How owuld you flavor it? I can't hardly cook at all unless it's in the microwave. But I'll try looking stuff up anyway. Cause I'd like to get a nice sun-dried tomato dressing but I haveno clue how to get that flavor if I make my own.

Newman's own has a decent low fat sun dried tomato dressing.

I might see if I can find that Glory. Thanks. I prefer dressings that are thick/creamy, like ranch or french, but I'll take what I can get. I still can't believe they put HFCS in salad dressing... -_-'

Salsa is great on salads too!

zenor77 06-16-2007 10:21 PM

They put HFCS in most everything. Check the bread you buy too.

BlessedBe 06-18-2007 10:19 PM

Oh I make sure to check the bread anymore. You think they would at least use maple syrup. It's a little bit healthier. :p

1/2 Olive oil, 1/2 wine vinegar, a bit of balsamic vinegar, crushed garlic and cut sun dried tomatoes shaken up in a bottle make a great dressing. No sweeteners necessary! Use about a tablespoon for 40 calories.
