Momentum - Week 2

Hi Everyone!

Thought I'd give an update on how I did the second week since switching back to Momentum.

This week I tracked faithfully, worked out almost everyday, ate my AP's and 15 WP's. I lost 2.6lbs for a total of 94.6 :carrot:

After I weighed in, my leader was acting strangely over excited and asked me to follow her to the back. I was thinking, 'Ok, what's going on?!' She pulls a piece of paper out of a yellow envelope, flips it over and it's a certificate signed by Florine and congratulates me on 100lbs lost! Attached to the top was a 100lb charm (I think I work harder for the charms than anything else! lol!). I will not be able to receive the certificate until I actually reach 100lbs lost but she wanted to show me because I'm so close and it really does motivate me to work harder.

Ahhh!! I'm so excited for you!!!! :carrot:

I am thrilled for you! On a side note, do you think Points Plus works better perhaps for people who have more weight to lose and whose points did not change that much. Those closer to goal, had an increase of 11 points per day versus people like myself (just starting out) whose points only increased by a few. That's what I think it may be. Just wondering your thoughts on it.

tarick 02-09-2011 11:47 AM

aweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee good for you!

amandie 02-09-2011 12:28 PM

Whoo!!!! Sooooo happy for you! You're almost there!

seagirl 02-09-2011 02:29 PM

That is awesome!

Are you eating less than you were on PP? Or just differently? Do you know what you your points for the week would have been if you were counting on PP?

I'm not sure because when I started Weight Watchers I was on the Momentum Plan for 10 months and lost 80lbs. I was pretty big and lost over 2lbs per week. I think Points Plus is great for maintenance and I'll probably switch back once I get to goal. It seems a LOT of people are having the same complaint, they keep gaining and losing the same few pounds on Points Plus.

I looked at what I ate throughout the week and it seemed like I was eating more. Every night I had a large bag of 94% Fat Free popcorn with Kernel Seasons Ranch Seasoning, I had 1 or 2 Arnold Thins per day with egg whites or tuna, and a couple packages of Weight Watchers Rosemary & Olive Oil Pretzels. I definately ate more carbs than I would have on PP but I also followed the GHG's - Healthy oil, dairy, protein, fruits/veggies, and whole grains. I'm not a huge fruit eater so I had 1 or 2 pieces along with a ton of veggies.

I have no clue what my points would have been on PP but I'm sure on PP it would have been more because of the carbs.

Way to go Kim! That is amazing, you continue to be an inspiration.

I lost 40 or 45 on WW, then they switched to PP and I experienced what others have. I was gaining and losing the same 3 pounds, when before I had a steady loss. I think for me, my body was used to gradually lowering my calories as my weight lowered.

On PP almost everyone has the same 29 points. My three friends and I ranged in weight by 60 pounds, but all had the same number of points... it didn't make a lot of sense, and none of us did well, despite following the plan. As soon as I switched to calorie counting (which is basically like momentum) I started dropping again.

So, pretty much, those of us who joined weight watchers post-momentum are screwed, right? Do you think it will come to a point where they will change the plan if too many people are having trouble? In your meetings, are you hearing similar themes?

The people in my meeting seem to be losing normally on PP.

osu2k1 02-10-2011 02:16 PM

If you go on Ebay, you can get all the Momentum stuff... Just FYI. I was looking, just in case. ;)

I am giving myself 2-3 months of WW, then I might go back to my bodybugg and calorie counting.

I think if enough people start complaining Weight Watchers will tweak P+, especially if so many of us are having the same complaint - Gaining and losing the same few pounds every week.

You can definately do the Momentum Plan, check out E-Bay for the materials and calculator. I have a few of the old books here, I can mail you one if you inbox me your home address.

There are 4 people in my Wednesday meeting that switched back because of the same issue. I think Weight Watchers should let us switch back to the old plan or any of their older plans to figure out what is best for us. I really like Momentum and I seriously swear by it because I lost 80lbs in 10 months on that plan. Fortunately I can eat more carbs and lose weight but I think it's due to the fact that I workout so much.

Aww thankyou

There are so many of us having the same issues and I think we should write to the company with our complaints.

The reason Momentum works is due to the fact that roughly every 10 pounds you lose, you also go down 1 point. The smaller we are the less calories our bodies need which is why we need so many when our bodies are 200+ pounds. I started out with 34 points and am now down to 25, only 4 less than P+.

It really is calories in vs calories out :smug:

mmel3283 02-10-2011 03:56 PM

When we made the switch to Points Plus...I went from 35 daily points to 46

Shytowngal 02-10-2011 04:05 PM

Kim,
I may write something to them. When I canceled my online subscription I wrote a paragraph stating why.

I wish they would offer both plans online, and let people decide. I DID like WW better than I do calorie counting, but I don't want to do momentum because I need an online program to track (it's just what works for me).

TransformingToni 02-11-2011 09:20 AM

Does anybody know if there is a phone number for Weight Watchers where members can call and talk to somebody for help?

Yeah, I am seeing a lot of that too. I have not been doing this long enough to make a decision. As long as i keep losing, I am happy. But hey, whatever works, you are obviously doing something right :)

Jojo381972 02-12-2011 01:14 PM

Congratulations, Kimberly on your 100 pound loss! :D:carrot:

I miss the old program as well. I lost 25 pounds on the momentum, and I have been hearing a lot of complaints in my meetings about the new points plus system in that the calculator confuses them, and it is more work. I have also heard about the losing and gaining. I have been thinking of just sticking to the momentum program myself and track like I was before.

So have you lost any on the new points plus system?

karendisney 02-13-2011 11:59 AM

First off - CONGRATS on your weight loss - that is just wonderful :carrot: You are truly an inspiration !!!!

I tried WW before (many times) and honestly just never stuck long term. I have been doing P+ for about 7 weeks and I am doing OK - not losing that fast, but I am getting used to that. I actually sort of do my own version of the South Beach Diet, but using the points as a guide to help me control portions. So I am within the WW guidelines, but stick more to SBD. I have a huge problem with carbs and I am insulin resistant/PCOS, so I pretty much have to stick to good carbs only if I want to nudge the scale at all. I'd had success with SBD, then a friend told me about the changes in WW so I decided to try that - I love the meetings, the weigh-ins and my leader :)

That being said, I have certainly heard people in my meetings complaining about how slowly they are losing now. Both people who were on points and those who started on P+. My mom goes to WW with me and we were just saying how when we'd gone years ago people would often lose 2 pounds a week, now it seems like most are .8, .6, etc. I hear people in my meeting worrying that its the fruit, but that doesn't make a lot of sense to me, unless they are gorging on it (which I don't think anyone is).

I would love to see a comparison between the two programs - if anyone has both, what would a typical day look like side by side, point and calorie wise?

Kimberly - you said that you eat MORE on Momentum? Could it be that P+ people are eating too little? I sometimes worry that thats the case with me. I eat all of my weekly points, but some of my "normal" foods are pretty low calorically. I am a vegetarian and I'll eat beans and soy products frequently.

When you consider that the points are (seemingly) less calories now - could that be the difference? I actually get 32 points right now, started at 34. So in 17 pounds I lost 2 points, but I only have 3 points to go down and thats rock bottom ??? With still having almost 70 pounds to lose ??? I can certainly see how that would stall someone.

I do think WW is going to have to look at this carefully. I know in the past they had different options - like points and no points (was that Core? - I don't know, unfortunately I joined a lot over the years and I get confused - my first tries were way back when it was an exchange system). I do think that they are trying to go for good health - but, honestly, if a lot of people don't lose weight on it then there is definitely a problem!

I honestly think there may be some tweaking in the future because there are way too many people having the same issue. I lost a total of 4.6lbs but kept losing and gaining the same few pounds for 2 months until I decided I'd had enough! Switching back to Momentum was the best thing I could have done because I'm back on track and losing a steady 2lbs per week.

If you feel comfortable sticking to Momentum than I say stay where you're at :smug:

I think that would be awesome if they would offer both Momentum and P+, it would make life so much easier! I still go to my weekly weigh in and stay for the meeting because I love my leader but I don't walk out of there with any useful information.

I may send an e-mail to the company and see what they think about bringing Momentum back for those of us who are uncomfortable with P+.

kelijpa 04-08-2011 07:05 PM

the points values of some things went up as well, though right, I have been a WW for years and need to get back too it (obviously) but bought some SmartOnes not too long ago and saw some info on the package.

I'm debating on meetings or trying online, I have to wait to find out if I'm furloughed and for how long before I commit to any $$ but am very curious about this new program.

One thing I know about WW, if you work the program it works.

best to all :sunny:
