Night Shift

  • I NEED HELP WITH ONE HUGE THING....I work nights (7p-7a)...I get up at 7-8am do regular mommy stuff through out the day and then go to work at 7pm. By the time I get to work I'm usually out of points but I still have a full 12 hours ahead of me. If I don't eat well through out the day (trying to save my points) I am STARVING and end up over eating (even if it's just a little)...have any suggestions??
  • Hi - I can't help you with WW and points but there's a shiftworkers support group under the miscellaneous support groups and someone there might have some ideas in addition to the help you get here.

    The shiftworkers forum is at:

    Good luck!
  • So you are awake for 24 hours? Just want to clarify.

I've heard of some people picking an arbitrary hour at which their "day" starts. For instance, if you pick 2pm, then your "day" of points goes from 2pm today until 2pm tomorrow. Therefore anything you eat from 7am-2pm is counted in your previous day.

Also, don't forget about your weekly points allowance!
  • Agree with Mod - don't think that your points have to restart in the morning. Just pick a 24 hour period that works best for you, and make sure you're utilizing the flexibility of your FPs for when you are really out of points and still have a long haul ahead!
  • Fit4Me: I have to agree with both modkitten and Suite, you do need to pick a time, in which you "start your day", and then go 24hrs from there. What works for me, is, to actually plan out my whole day, down to what exercise I plan to do, this way I can stick to something and not just leave it up to chance. I do the Flex plan for that reason, you do not have to have the meal that goes with the clock time, you can mix it up. So maybe you could have some 0pt soup, the recipe is in our #1 book, that we got at the first meeting, it is delicous and very filling. Also maybe snacking all day, on cut up veggies will help with getting through the Mommy part of your day, and saving the bulk of your points when you need them the most. Starving yourself is not the best, I tend to start reaching for all the quick and easy to grab, usually all that is not helping me to stay OP.

Good Luck, shift work is very hard and takes a bit more planning, I do wish you all the best, and remember we are here for support.
  • Vladadog- Thank You for the forum for Shift Work, need to check it out.

This is what I do. I work from 6p-6a. I generally start my "day" at around 3-4. This is when I have "breakfast". I generally stop my day around 0630 (because well...I'm asleep!!! ). But if I am awake, (like during school) I'll have my cut off at 0630.

I find that this works better because there's really no question as to when my points end or begin because I call the shots.
