garlic points?? for real??
i'm just sayin. What's the deal with points for garlic??? I was shocked -- just made some hummus with roasted garlic and put the recipe in the recipe thing, 4 cloves was .5 points! clearly, not a lot, but what a surprise!!

Really? That's surprising. Honestly, though, at that point I wouldn't even bother counting the points on garlic.

Cooked onions are worth points too.
I just never count them. I'm not gonna eat four cloves of garlic, and it's rare that I'll eat enough cooked onions to make em count. I figure I don't always eat up all my FPs each week anyway :lol: |
I could personally eat 8 cloves of roasted, 6 cooked or 4 cloves of raw in a single dish.

If you use the point calculator, vegetables have points, but you don't have to count them unless you eat large servings of some like carrots and onions.
I would consider garlic in the same category as onions, usually free unless eaten in very large quantities, but even using the point calculator, 15 cloves of garlic still have only one point. |
I was very surprised when I learned cooked onions had points. And now garlic? Ahh! :) I haven't been counting them either, though. I cut up one onion in a stirfry for the entire family.

I don't think they generally add up enough to count until you reach some pretty big servings. One cup of cooked onions has 1 point, I believe. That's 2 cups of raw onions. It's rare to eat onions like this (not saying it's impossible, as I've had "baked onions" at a potluck served as a side dish, where each serving was 1/2 of a good sized onion).

I know onions get sugary so maybe it's the same w/ garlic? I wouldn't count it either, though. Man, now I'm craving roasted garlic on bread. Drool...

Zero point veggies are always 0 points. however the recipe builder is only built to look at cal/fat/fiber and cannot distinguish between what is a 0 point veggie and what is something that would be 0 points for 1 serving but adds points such as sugar free jello

Although it is not listed as such, I would consider garlic to be a veggie analogous to onions. Zero points, unless you're eating more than 1 cupful.
I had a WW leader who said that some people with little weight to lose, might have to count the points in their veggies, if their weight stalls. I think it's easy to forget that even the WW point system has to be "tweaked" by some people. Nothing is written in stone. But seriously, if your weight loss is stalling, is it likely that uncounted cooked onions, carrots or garlic is to blame? Possible, but not likely. You can obsess over the most minute of details or take your best shot and get on with the rest of your life. One point this way or that is not going to "poof" break the diet magic spell. It would take about 70 uncounted points to equal one pound not lost. Are you making 70 calculation errors every week? |
And as my WW leader said..none of us are herre from eating too much garlic. Ok she said apples....but you get the drift. If you eat copious amount of any zero calorie food you will accumulate points and calories...because nothing except water actually has absolutely nothing to it.
