Again, not a ton of time, as I'm still working on my presentation about addiction...ironic, because my own addiction to this site is preventing me from getting started!
Suite -- totally not weird to get those effects after dairy!! I used to be off dairy, spent a few months not eating ANY dairy (ie, label reading for anything milk related) because i have nasal allergies and asthma, and I'd heard that dairy could effect that. I did some research on it, and dairy releases histamines in your system, which effects things like mucus production. So I thought, "I'll just see what happens if I get off dairy for 2 weeks, see if it actually helps," (this was soon after failing on Atkins, you can imagine how much dairy I had been eating for that horrible diet), and it did! Now you've got me thinking about it again...just be forewarned, if you stop eating dairy, beware the effects if you "cheat," (our American digestive systems are used to dairy, so we don't all have the stomach effects that people in Asia have, but once you stop being used to it, and then have a milkshake, it can be pretty bad news! I speak from experience!!)

Wow i said a lot about that.

Man, I gotta go. I can't wait till this week is done!

S

Lovely 04-08-2008 09:19 AM

Suite - You're a doll!  I don't think I need any "accidents", but it's always good to have a backup plan! No cheese?! :faint: Seriously, though, I hope you can get through the weeks dairy-free & that you feel better if it is indeed an allergy!

Lizzy - I think you & I must have caught a very addictive & contagious bug from this site! Work to do, and yet here we are ^^

I wonder, if one were to cut out much/all of the dairy in their life, but then use a lactaid pill before consuming any dairy like a milkshake if it would help... :chin:

suitejudyblueeyes 04-08-2008 10:29 AM

The lactaid pill would help, in theory, if lactose were the only element of dairy that one is sensitive to. I've known for years I have a degree of lactose sensitivity, but it's not too bad unless I eat large amounts of ice cream or cheesy pizza. However, I think the thing that I'm dealing with now is related to other elements of milk, triggering the histamine response that shrinkinglizzy mentioned (my sneezing, itchy eyes, mucous-y mouth, runny nose). Milk is one of the most highly allergenic foods we eat (along with wheat), I think there are 20 or 30 different aspects of milk that one can be allergic to (if I remember correctly).

I've been doing my reading this morning

Institches21 04-08-2008 11:35 AM

Wow Everyone was here Yesterday :carrot: Hi to All

Faerie, Yes being on that challenge, I sure will keep me motivated to get in my daily exercise. Good Luck to you, you are doing fantastic :hat: Sorry that your roomie is a knucklehead, and I do hope you can find a roomate that is more considerate, of you and your feelings :D

freedom :bday2you: Hope it's wonderful

truelies-I've found those flatouts at Super Walmart, but they do sell out quick, so when I do find them I buy alot, I put parchment paper between them and freeze them. Love the garlic and herb, had an egg wrap this morning :T

lizzy-I know what you mean, I can't wait to finish my exercise tape so I can get on the computer, I'm totally addicted, but it's a Good One  Good luck on your report.

Suite-doesn't sound like fun, hope you find out if it's dairy thats making you feel so yucky :?: now silly question how would you get in your daily dairy, if you were allergic?

Debbie-Welcome, hey believe it or not, it's better for the weight to come off slow, but 15 gone for good! :carrot:

Dawn-Hi, saw your other post, WTG for your daughter and Hubby, that's terrfic that you all are in this together, it really helps to have that support! WTG on your activity plan :dancer:

Have a Great Day-;)

suitejudyblueeyes 04-08-2008 03:34 PM

Institches - The dairy requirement is really a simplified calcium requirement. We get calcium from many sources other than dairy, like dark leafy greens and milk substitute products that are calcium-fortified. That's how I'd do it :)

And how are you doing, hmm? You are so wonderful to take all this time to respond to everyone and you don't even talk about yourself!

vdaybaby 04-08-2008 04:30 PM

Suite: my boyfriend's dad has a lactose allergy as well. He can't drink milk at all, he has to buy the lactose free milk. When he does eat other dairy products, like ice cream, he can only eat a little bit at a time or he gets sick.

~well as for me, I haven't been up to much. I haven't worked out yet this week because I have been busy with school and work. I am going to go tonight after my night class. I hope I can get in 4 workouts this week!

Have you guys ever tried the Dreyer's Loaded ice cream? It's low fat, only 3 points per half cup serving, and it's true to its name, it's loaded with candy! The cookie dough one has WAY more cookie dough than any other ice cream I have had. I just tried the cookies and cream one, which uses oreos, and it's good!

Well, that's all for me today!

suitejudyblueeyes 04-08-2008 05:07 PM

vday - good luck with the gym! I'd be a hypocrite if I told you to make time for it so you get your workouts in, I haven't been exercising nearly enough and have basically said to heck with it til after my exam next week :dizzy: I tried the Loaded Butterfinger one once, and remember being slightly disappointed that there wasn't more ice cream in it :p I think we expect different things from our ice cream  But 3pts for a 1/2c is decent for as much candy is in that stuff :p

DebbieMomof2 04-08-2008 06:50 PM

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, and the encouragement.

I've seen those Flatout wraps at our Safeway. I thought I calculated the points to be quite high. Maybe I'm wrong, though. Does anyone know what the points are for those?

Interesting what you said about anger, Faerie. Unless I'm really angry, I'm pretty sure eat with that emotion, too. I recall having an argument with husband and straight afterward looking around for something to shove in mouth.

vdaybaby 04-08-2008 07:33 PM

I use to drink when I was angry!

Now I don't because of the points!

Now I rarely ever drink, so it's the other way around. I get angry when I drink! Well not really...just at random strangers at bars...

vdaybaby 04-08-2008 09:55 PM

Okay confession time: I didn't go work out. I changed to work out and everything and then realized that they close the gym on tuesday nights for yoga class...

And I probably won't work out tomorrow or Thursday either because I have a night class and work...:(

So that means I will only be working out 2 times this week!!! So that is bad....my body is so sensitive...if I am not working out 4 times and being completely on points, it gains! We will see how this plays out...I feel pretty lazy about it but what a ya gonna do:dunno:

kelijpa 04-08-2008 10:25 PM

We took our camper up to our land this weekend, no internet up there. I wish I had more time to post and read, but I have to take what I can get, eh?! I miss you guys!

Hopefully I'll get some time before we go up there again for the weekend.

Best to all! :sunny: gotta go get some beauty sleep
:D

shrinkinglizzy 04-08-2008 10:50 PM

Hey all,
Good day so far!! totallk OP!!
Again, not a lot of time, but vday you reminded me of when i drove across the country, and once we crossed from the East of the Mississippi to the West of the Mississippi, what had once been Edy's ice cream turned to Dreyers (I think those were the brands). The packaging looked the same, but the name was different! I thought it was so weird. So, I don't know if we have that here on the East. But I will be looking for it!!

Faerie, Suite, Kel, Stitches, thinking of you all, can't wait for this week to be over so i can take some time to write, guiltlessly!

S

Lovely 04-09-2008 07:33 AM

Wednesday!

Hrm. Wednesday :chin:

Vday - Is there any way to get in some sort of work out or physical activity w/o going specifically to the gym? Is there an area nearby that you can take a walk around? A DVD you have that you can use to substitute gym time? Either way, take care and just be extra careful with the points this week, then

Debbie - I haven't come across them so I don't know the points.

Keli - Oh Camping! :D I hope it was fun! Let us know about it when you get the time ^^

Institches & Lizzy -

---

Not much to report here today, friends. I just hope you all are doing well :D

shrinkinglizzy 04-09-2008 08:19 AM

Presentation day is tonight!!
So I gotta finish in the next 3 hours before I go to my internship.

Just wanted to pop in again, say HI, pat myself on the back for staying OP yesterday (19 pts) and getting all my fruits/veggies in.

Have a good day, all!! I'll be back in full force tomorrow!!

S

Lovely 04-09-2008 08:40 AM

Lizzy - Way to go on that OP day!!! :woohoo: Best of luck with presentation day! :goodluck:

dwnloom 04-09-2008 10:25 AM

Lizzy, Great job with op. Good Luck on your presentation. Please let us know how it went.

Keli - Camping....I love to camp. Not roughing it camping, we have a trailer. It is really nice to get away. Do you have running water and electric?

Vday - I dont go to the gym, we have alot of equipment at home, but sometimes I just cant do that. I have found the biggest loser dvd's. To me, they are still hard, but I like them. Maybe something to try.

Debbie - these guys are wonderful!!! I'm glad you joined the group, also. I dont post alot, but try to read the posts every day.

Institches - I agree with Suite, tell us about yourself.:)

_______________________________

The scale has finally moved a little this week. I am hoping to have some kind of loss this week. I went to the dentist yesterday. I had a root canal, so, I didnt feel like eating. I used it as my low point day. Do you think antiboitics(sp?) make you retain water/weight?

I have a food question.....I have chicken, brown rice and veggies. I would like to make a stir fry, but am not sure what type of seasonings will make it taste good. I have alot of spices, so hopefully you guys can give me some suggestions.

Its raining here so kind of a blah day.

Have a great Middle of the week.

Dawn

Institches21 04-09-2008 10:28 AM

Great Job staying OP, Good Luck on your Presentation tonight :carrot: Can't wait to hear how well it went for you :D

Happy Wednesday to All :grouphug:

suitejudyblueeyes 04-09-2008 10:39 AM

Dawn - Yes, antibiotics can make you retain water. Pretty much any drug out there can. But remember it's only temporary. If you see a gain this week you know *exactly* why, given that you're seeing a loss now before the antibiotics. Hang in there and drink your water!

As for the stir fry, my favorite thing to do if I don't have a bottled sauce on hand is in a small bowl combine minced garlic, powdered ginger, oregano, a spoon of honey, soy sauce, squirt of lemon juice, and some broth in a bowl and dump that on top in the last minute or two of cooking to let it evaporate a little. I estimate on the amounts of each thing but it should end up being only about a 1/2c of sauce. Or I make a peanut sauce using peanut butter, ginger, soy sauce, and broth. Either one makes a tasty accompaniment to stir fry :)

Sonja - good luck on the presentation!!

faerie -

keli - Oooh, that sounds fun. I'd love to go on a no-internet mini-vacation. When me and DH went on our "trial honeymoon" (just after the wedding but only 3 days, we're counting our real honeymoon as our trip to brazil this year) we went to a little cabin with no TV, no internet, no phone... just a fireplace, a couch, a kitchen, a jacuzzi, a bed. And lots of trails to hike and gorgeous weather. It was fantastic. I hope you had a good time!!

Me, I'm feeling generally poopy today. TOM's out in full force and I have this general feeling of malaise. TOM never bothered me when I was on the pill but I've been off for 6 months or so now for a number of reasons and the one thing I hate about it is that all the pleasant TOM symptom-reducing side effects have worn off. :( Sigh. Such is life. Good thing it's only a couple days.... I'm finding comfort in my coffee for now, and some soothing music while I work. Just doesn't help that this is happening now on top of the other stuff I have going on.

Hmm, I haven't had any water this morning yet. :rain: That can't be helping. Note to self: go get water to drink.

Hey, I had a question for you all: We all know the importance of eating our flexies, right? And presumably we're all eating at least *some* of them each week. But exactly how close do you all get to the 35? For the Wendy planners, I know only 27 are actually scheduled into your plan. Do you eat the other 8? What about you non-Wendy planners?

I was just thinking that aside from the week when I went way over the 35 I don't think I've ever set out to eat all 35 in one week. I no longer have any stigma attached to using FPs, I use them freely - but I never make it up to 35. Not that I can't, just that I don't. I'm just curious about how this is with the rest of you.

Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday (WEEK'S HALF OVER!) :)

dwnloom 04-09-2008 10:51 AM

Suite - thanks for the menu ideas. I have the ingedients for both. As far as the flex pts - I hardly ever use them all. I use about 1/2. I had a hard time using them at first. They scared me...I was afraid that if I used them, I wouldnt lose. however, just the opposite is true. When I use them, I generally lose more.

Dawn

Institches21 04-09-2008 11:16 AM

Suite/Dawn Thanks for asking, well, I'm doing okay, it's that darn scale. Instead of letting it get to me, which it kinda does, but I find it healthier to focus on all the good stuff that's going on for you guys. My turn will get here, so in the mean time, I'm doing my tapes, drinking my water and stay OP, something has to happen, sooner or later. :dizzy:

The reason I asked about the dairy, is I'm always looking for other ways to get it in :carrot:

Debbie- the points for the FlatOuts that I have, which are Light Italian Herb are: 90cal/2.5fat/9fiber, which are 1 point each, there is also another one which are also very good, it LaTortilla Factory, they end up to be 0points, and that's for one, if you do have a second one, you will need to count 1point, I don't have any in the house, but I remember they are like 50cal/1fat/8fiber. Those I found in front of the meat counter in the deli.

Dawn-a stirfry sounds delish, at my house only I like them, haven't made any lately, before WW, I usually bought one of those stirfry boxes. I'd be interested in any no/low salt recipes. Glad the scale is moving in the right direction for you

Faerie, Lizzy Aero, vday, keli

BlzMaxGnrCCJkMly 04-09-2008 11:18 AM

OH I love the itailian herb flats I use them to make pizza, fatfree cheese and turkey pepparoni! yum!

THE Heather 04-09-2008 03:47 PM

Hey guys. It's been a while. Some of you may have realized that I disappeared while some of you don't know I exist. Which I'm fine with. That's the reality of life.

Things have taken a HORRIBLE turn. I've been Off plan for a while now. Not a litte off plan like.."I went over my points by six!" but like..I went over my point by fourty...I've become extremely depressed, unbelievably anxious (almost had to go to the hospital for one of my anxiety attakcs) and overall horrible. I've been stood up not ONCE but TWICE in the past week. Because of the shift in things, I chopped off my hair. Took the scissors to my hair myself. Now my hair looks like crap, I feel like crap, and I just want to hide under my covers.

I've also missed out on school the past week and a half. I've missed that many lectures, but thank God they're not classes that assign things outside of the lectures (With the exception of one...which I have to do a children's observation paper that is due on the 15th...still haven't started).

I feel hopeless at the moment, and I'm really not sure what I'm doing or what I want to do.

Maybe things will get better.

Sounds like you guys are having better luck than I am.

Congrats to you all.

suitejudyblueeyes 04-09-2008 04:18 PM

Heather - I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through. Definitely take care of yourself right now - Don't even worry about WW. Sounds like you have bigger fish to fry. Is there anyone you can talk to about this? Does your school clinic have a counselor, perhaps? Or do you have a trusted friend or family member? I hope you have someone you can work with face-to-face about your depression and anxiety, those are both tough, tough things to battle. Best of luck to you. Don't feel pressured whatsoever to follow WW or to post here or anything until you're ready, okay?

For what it's worth, I noticed you had disappeared. :)

BlzMaxGnrCCJkMly 04-09-2008 04:27 PM

heather dont get discouraged! we all have fallen off the program at one time or another! its ok! just pick yourself up and get back on track! you can do! by the way we are close to each other if you are arlington, I am in north richland hills! how cool! good luck to you!

dwnloom 04-09-2008 04:45 PM

Heather,

I am sooo sorry you are going thru this. I deal with the depression/anxiety all of the time. I know how hard it must be for you. I hope you can find some one that you can confide in, in person. However, We are all here for you. Going over on points on ww---not a bid deal. Just take it one day at a time. I have learned that you have to put the past in the past. For me, before, If I messed up, I totally gave up. Even if it was just once. This time, I have had some problems, but that was yesterday.....

Being stood up is very hard and hurtful, but it is their loss. Just tell yourself, I am much better than that. I deserve better.

Please take care of yourself and know that we are thinking of you.

Dawn

PS. I noticed that you were missing also. I dont always post, but I do read all of the posts.

vdaybaby 04-09-2008 07:22 PM

Heather: I noticed you left too...we have ALL fallen off the wagon like you have before. I would agree with Suite and just say work on yourself right now, and don't worry about counting points. If you ARE getting more depressed over not counting points, then you can start counting them again. The main thing I would do is just make sure the food you are eating is beneficial and healthy, and maybe not worry about point counting or portion sizes for right now. I hope you feel better! Let us know!

~~This kind of bring me into something I was going to post. I was watching "Workout" on Bravo, a reality show about a gym in LA. The trainer was training a woman who was really overweight, and was even considering having surgery. After training at the gym, she was able to lose 20 pounds, and it gave her a brand new outlook on life.

What was really inspirational was the trainer told her "Dieting isn't about restrictive eating. It is about adding in more healthy food. The more healthy food you add in, the less you will want to eat the junk".

This is SO true. I have been eating really healthy since February and now I hardly ever crave junk food. When I eat candy bars, they don't even taste good to me. When I go out to eat, I am usually disappointed after what I eat because it doesn't even have much taste due to the high amount of grease and butter and just general fat. I always think "I could have made a HUGE meal for that amount of points, AND it would have tasted better".

Anyways, I worked out today! I skipped one of my classes to do so:devil:
We weren't doing anything in it though, so whatever.

kelijpa 04-09-2008 09:39 PM

"It was okay to be upset,... it was not okay to quit. It was okay to feel disappointed, ... it was not okay to let that disappointment keep me from continuing to be healthier." Great words FAERIE, as usual...

Whew! I just got caught up, I feel like I've missed tons!!

Heather  life just sucks sometimes, sometimes we say it sucks being a grown up, but the downs make the ups better, I've had my times with depression and self-destructive behavior, we'll probably find it's another thing we have in common that led us all here, I finally got where I would not let someone else determine how I feel. It probably sounds trite, and of course now with DH it's a bit different, but I usually feel bad when he's not happy, because I want him to be happy, but he also simply cannot be happy 100% of the time. That would be it's own kind of crazy, right :D Listen to what all these good people are saying, try and find someone to talk to, don't worry about the points unless that's going to make you feel worse, and forgive yourself!! We're all human and those that stood you up don't deserve you or your time and energy. Hope you heal soon.

Dawn, we have a camper also, we got electricity last year and maybe will put in a well this year or next, we have water tanks and bring water up and put it in. ~also, the scale will cooperate, remember not too drastic with the punishing, we're talking lifestyle, so we want to do things we will continue to do forever (and ever and ever) I worry about not getting in enough veg when in the camper, though, I usually bring fruit but sometimes vegs are a challenge, I'm going to bring a bag salad this time, I usually bring frozen vegs for side dishes.

I like tent camping, too. Love the hiking (especially now that I'm so much better at it :D and Suite, I also like the non-availability, funny if I go into the woods a bit I get cell phone service, so I can keep in touch, but on my terms, which I love. I hate being a slave to the phone...it's a necessary evil. Funny years ago when we moved to the Poconos my Dad didn't have a phone put in for awhile (we lived in a mobile home) and then we had the party line, funny how things change, now I don't have a phone in my house, we just use the cells, my MIL will call thinking I'm at home and I'll be at the grocery or something :D

I was just looking at some pics my SIL posted from their trip to Hawaii, what beautiful country, my Brother and SIL did Medifast, lost a lot, my mom says he was up recently and thinking about trying maintenance, but he's scared, I'm so happy I did this the way I did, slow and steady, Faerie getting to that year mark was huge for me, it really made me feel "I can do this 4ever" Dawn I'm looking forward to being at my goal and maintaining by the 2 year mark, another challenge for me was that I had the 145 by my 45th birthday (which was last year) and then came to a point where I knew there was no way I was going to make that and how to adjust my goal and be proud of myself for what I had down to that point and not consider it a failure, and it all worked out and I'm still slow but sure heading towards my goal, it's tantalizing (like Suite's onederland~can't wait to congratulate her! and Faerie's 90lbs and anniversary~also can't wait to :congrat:)

Well, I babbled on, may not get back on 'til monday...boo hoo...will miss you guys!! BTW, the WI thread is going great gangbusters, congrats to all!!

Vday forgot to say, I feel the same as you, that sweet/greasy/etc. stuff doesn't appeal anymore and healthy stuff tastes better now. I think you actually taste more when you get away from that sugar and salt.

:sunny:

shrinkinglizzy 04-09-2008 10:56 PM

Holy cow I still don't have the stamina to catch up to all of these posts!

BUT,
Heather, I missed you! But your depressive state certainly makes me remember how i've felt at times. And it sucks, so I'm sorry you're there right now. I don't think there's much that any of us can say to help you out, but know that most of us have been there, too. Bingey and icky and self-hating. And I'm betting that you KNOW that it's illogical. Friggin emotions. See a counselor if you can, I'd say.

Faerie -- love the new avatar!! now that you have a new one, i have to say, the old one reminded me of a scoldy person...which YOU are SO NOT!! I think this new one come a touch closer to the warm, friendly person I imagine you as!

Jamie -- presentation is OVAH!! (as they say here in Boston, where all the "r"s were tossed into the bay with the tea). I think it went OK. Point is, it's done. As for the flex points, I always use them. Usually all of them. I'm sorry, but 20 pts a day is really not a lot! Yup, all my flexies and all my APs, too. I'll re-evaluate if I stop losing, but for now, that's working for me.

Everyone else, WHADDUP!!! I'm gonna get to bed now, just wanted to say hi.
Much love!
S

gemini1567 04-10-2008 12:21 AM

Heather - ((HUGS)). I can feel your pain. Try to talk to a therapist or someone that will listen without judging. A lot of people are against meds, but sometimes its the little boost you need to get happier. Also, as cruddy as sounds now, exercise is a great mood lifter.

I had a semi cruddy day. I was feeling a bit foul for most of today too. We were crazy busy at my cafe today, which led me to make an extremely poor choice for breakfast. I was starting to feel better after going to a meeting & finding out I had dropped over a pound. But then I got a rude cashier at the store. I did feel better after firing off an email to the company. Ate dinner late, but made a fairly healthy decision and only came in using 2 flex points. I still might treat myself to something more before I go to bead, but I should only use 2 or so more points. First time I dipped into my flex points this week

Lovely 04-10-2008 07:41 AM

Heather - I was wondering where you had gotten to! I'm so sorry things are difficult right now. You know what makes me feel better about my hair? Barrettes. Just 2. Both on one side... One on each side... I think they make all hair look cute ^_^ I'm very concerned about you, hun. I really want you to go talk to someone about the depression & anxiety, to help you work with it. Don't think about points when you should be thinking about getting up and dealing with things that are more important to your well-being right now. Please, take care of your wonderful self.
