Good Morning!!

I went to a meeting last night. This is my third time trying again. I liked the leader. Last night was her first meeting by herself. I like the idea of a new leader as I start a new journey.

I did however not like the number on the scale. Ugh, I never want to see that again.

I am excited because I am on winter break until Jan. 3. YEA!!!! It is so nice just to hang out this morning. I am headed to Costco later with my mom, but that is fun stuff. I love looking through Costco.

Hi everyone -

Wondering if you had room for another "flexer"? I just love this board and have met many nice people heree. I have always had good success with flex and have been enjoying the conversations here.

Jane - you are doing a great job here!! I am originally from the midwest too!

I have had a few stressful months but did return to WW and meeting right after Thankgiving. In the beginning of August, I moved cross country with a 6 yr old to help care for my Mom who had brain cancer. My sister and I took 24 hr care of her until the last few weeks when she went into full time hospice care. She died last month so we are trying to get our bearings. Luckily I got my daughter enrolled in kindergarten almost right away so she has had so diversion o fit all.

But after Thanksgiving, I just found a meeting and I too LOVE my leader. For me that has been huge to my success - now and in the past. I just decided after all the stress, it was time to do this - no matter what time of year etc. For me there is ALWAYS an excuse why I shouldn't get started..tomorrow tomorrow tomorrow..so I just made it today :)

Look forward to traveling this very successful, very do-able journey with you all!

Jane 12-21-2007 08:35 PM

Patty, first of all, I'm so sorry for the loss of your mother. I lost mine, too, quite awhile back. Also, thanks for the kind words. Welcome to 3fc and especially to the Flex forum. Yes, once you get your mind set in the right place, it really doesn't matter what time of year it is. As I've heard before, if you want to do something, you'll find a way, and if you don't want to do something, you'll find an excuse. Your 16 pound loss speaks for you! Again, welcome, and please post often. :)

Patty575 12-23-2007 09:07 AM

Thanks so much Jane - trying to get though the next few days (emotionally) and I know that will help. I almost would have liked to have skipped the holidays this year, but I have a 6 yr old daughter and that was not possible :D

I am staying true to the program and am so proud of myself. I promised myself that this time it had to be that way and quite honestly for me at least, it hasn't been difficult because with WW, you can have anything :carrot: It is the only thing I can control around me right now. And it has taken me a very long tme to get here - I was always a "tomorrow" person and I had to just do it. Plus my meeting/weigh-in is the day after Christmas ;)

Hope you all have a great day and hoping all the flexers come here to post on one thread so we can exchange ideas etc.

Take care everyone,

tanner'smom 12-23-2007 10:34 AM

Way to go Patty!! Good for you to be sticking with it and doing something for yourself.

I also am struggling with this time of year. There is just to much food. Then on top of it my TOM should appear today or tommorow and I definately munch when it is about to appear.

I am trying a new recipe today for Lemon Bars. We are all supposed to bring something for dessert for our big family dinner. This way I know something is healthy. It is actually a receipe from Pampered Chef.

Have a great day!
Jasmine

Jane 12-26-2007 09:12 AM

Hi all,

I had a great Christmas, and hope you did, too. Today I'll be clearing the house of all toxic/trigger foods, and also taking down the decorations.

What're your plans for the day?

caitbeans 12-26-2007 09:38 AM

Today I plan to hit the post-Christmas sales! I need a book shelf and some lighting..I want some exercise stuff too. I had a great Christmas, I pointed out EVERYTHING!! :) :) I am so proud! have NEVER done that over a holiday- and I only ate dessert each night as far as dessert went!

tanner'smom 12-26-2007 09:44 AM

Jane-Last night I went through all the stuff we got and threw the food away. I am lucky my DH does not like most of it and my DS is to young to realize what I did. The only thing I kept were the Christmas gobstoppers. I love them. I am not quite sure why. I did not track the last few days but am back on the wagon. I did not want to worry about it.

Have a great day!

Patty575 12-27-2007 02:40 PM

Hope everyone is doing well! Had a good meeting yesteday and down 3.5 lbs this week. I am SO focused it is a little scary :) Just need to do this!!

Hope you all have a great day and the thread picks up a bit :^:

IMNOTQUITINGTHISTIME 12-27-2007 04:12 PM

Hi Ladies, I hope you have room for another flexer. I have been so bad the last couple of months and have gained 15lbs back, so now that Christmas is over and I feel like a moo cow, its time for me to get back on track and hit my goal weight in 2008! I dont go to meetings and have always followed the winning points program at home and at one point I was down 53lbs, I know it works and I love flex. When core first came out I tried it, but I always ended up stuffing my face with anything that was sweet. So now I just stick to the flex program.

tanner'smom 12-27-2007 05:22 PM

Welcome Anna! I think most of have been there and have gained weight back. You made the best step by recommitting yourself.

I was supposed to go to my meeting tonight but it has been snowing all day long. I definately will not be making it out. I don't think I have lost anyway between Christmas and my TOM. But I feel good today.

Jasmine

bojooki 12-28-2007 06:16 AM

back on track now that Christmas is over. being extra diligent about my workouts to try to combat what i at for those few days surround Christmas.

Jane 12-28-2007 09:54 AM

TGIF!:carrot:

Caitbeans - did you get any good stuff at the sales? A big WooHoo for you, staying OP over Christmas. :carrot:

Jasmine - what the heck is a gobstopper? Do tell!

Patty - next year will be easier now that the first one is out of the way. Thank goodness for your DD to help keep you focused. WooHoo for the loss! That's great!

Anna - yay for you, starting again before it really gets out of control. I am another one that is trying to relose what I lost before! Anyway, this is a great bunch, and we're glad to have you here. Welcome to the family.

Carrie- yay for being back on the wagon. :cp:

A big hello to anyone else reading this. Please just jump in and join us!

I feel SO much better now that I'm eating healthily again. Makes a difference, doesn't it? I feel better mentally, too, knowing that I'm back in control.

Today I need to go to town (I live in the boonies) and do some grocery shopping. Also want to pick up our Christmas photos.

Have a good day!

tanner'smom 12-28-2007 10:28 AM

Jane- a gobbstopper is a hard candy made by will wonka. In the Willy Wonka movie they have an everlasting one. In reality they are just hard compacted candy. I am not sure why I like them.

I am feeling motivated and ready to face the day. Have a great day!!!

Jasmine

kelijpa 12-29-2007 11:36 PM

ok, I'm jumping in! :D I'm motivated, went out and bought the WW magazine tonight, I'm going to subscribe. I really want to get back to not having to pay at WW. That's my goal for '08 DH and I kicked up our walking program again and are eating better, thank God the cookies are gone :D that definitely helps!

Patty575 12-30-2007 12:55 AM

Thanks so much Jane - it has only been a short while so it is all still so raw. I am using my focus on WW to get through and also my DD. I did go out today and bought the new magazine too and thought it was great. I also bought a new WW cookbook and another great one with success stories and tips etc. I have my little exercise room set up as well. I am looking into food and supplement ideas to deal with depression. I have read some things and seen a few shows so using that as well. I still can't get through a day without crying....

Everyone sounds good and so glad we have this thread to post :)

Patty575 12-30-2007 09:56 AM

The book is called "Start Living, Start Losing" and is about WW success stories and tips. Very cool :)

Jane 12-30-2007 02:17 PM

Hello all,

Jasmine - oic about the gobbstopper. You know, I've never seen the Willy Wonka movie all the way through.

Keli - yay for the cookies being gone, lol. :cp: I think we each have a new, postive outlook for 2008, and we'll try and keep each other motivated when the going gets tough.

Patty - it will get better, I promise. Just keep in mind that she wouldn't want to see you crying, ok? Wow, with the books, exercise room, and your "can do" attitude, I think you will be a 2008 success story, for sure. Thanks for sharing the title of the book. I don't have a bookstore where I live, but if Walmart has it, I'll pick up a copy.

Hello to anyone else reading this.

I've been sort of sick with a sore thoat and a cough, and think it's turning into a cold. No wonder, with all the crazy weather we've had. We need a good freeze to kill the cooties, lol.

My eating has been great, and I've never had a problem with water. I'm not doing very well with exercise, though. Maybe when I feel better.

Hope you're all having a good weekend.

Misery Chick 12-30-2007 02:27 PM

The motivation around here is amazing....all you guys are great motivation for me...

tanner'smom 12-30-2007 06:58 PM

Guess what my aunt gave DH and I today? If you guessed a box of chocolate you are right. Can you guess where they are going? If you guessed to the starving children in Africa you would be right. I wish I could send them there, however they will be visiting the trash can.

lacorso 12-31-2007 08:41 AM

Hope you don't mind if i jump in here. Let me just say that I chose to go with flex plan because of peanut butter. I LOVE PEANUT BUTTER!!!! I was an LA Weightloss member, but i find the plan a bit rigid for me, so here i am.

I hope to make some new friends and to motivate and be motivated...:carrot:
Linda

tanner'smom 12-31-2007 09:36 AM

Welcome Linda!!! You chose flex for the right reason. Enjoy the peanut butter.

kelijpa 01-01-2008 06:45 PM

Way to go, Tanner's Mom! DH gets a box of chocolate covered cherries from someone every year for xmas. So, it didn't get opened right away, but then it did in the prior to the New Year restart, so tonight there were 3 left in there and he says do you want to do a ceremonial cherry chuck? (It's just woods across the road from us) I thought it was a great idea so I grabbed them (took them out of the box first) and went out on the porch and winged them across the road, it felt great!!

We're ready for our fresh start.

Jane 01-02-2008 10:33 AM

I love the enthusiasm here! :carrot:

dusty57 01-03-2008 10:35 AM

Hi I'm new here also. I'm so glad I found this thread. I did WW last yr for the 4th time in over 20 yrs. I did well on Flex then switched to Core. I lost 29 lbs. Then I made the huge mistake of not going to meetings! I put back on most of the weight I lost in about 4 months time. How frustrating. I decided in Oct. to join again. I am doing Flex because although I did well with Core and I still eat mostly Core foods-I NEED the "stability" of knowing I have to account with points in my diary and I do. I just feel differently about getting back in shape this time. It's not about a diet or weight so much as feeling good about myself at the age of 50 and knowing that what I have been doing to my body all these years is behind me. I can and will succeed this time. BTW I became a lifetimer back in the 80's when my children were small. Back then I only had about 20 to lose. Now I'm facing losing 50+ but I look at it in small steps. 5 pounds at a time is my goal and so far, I have been doing great.

jewels2 01-03-2008 02:56 PM

Hi All, My name is Julie.. I am new to the WW Flex program..and I too need to point count and keep a diary so that I am taking control on what Im eating.. Im 26 yrs old with a 1 yr old and I work nights..so this is really challenging for me planning out points with such a tough schedule... I'm only 1 week into it so I havent had my first official weigh in yet. Im out to lose about 35 lbs so Im hoping WW works for me.. How have you all found the program?? Pretty regular weight loss? Do you feel it only works with exercise?? Just looking on getting some of your thoughts since most of u have been ding it a while. My sister in law has lost 85 lbs on flex and she's not even working out..I just cant believe that this program on points alone really guarantees loss??

kelijpa 01-03-2008 05:13 PM

First off Dusty, I'm with you, I was lifetime in the 90s and gained it back by not going to meetings, or I guess feeling "it won't happen to me, I'm cured". Now I'm back for a year and looking forward to getting to goal and maintaining.

And Julie, in my opinion you can lose weight without exercising, but you probably won't be able to maintain your loss. Believe it or not losing the weight is the easy part, it doesn't seem like it when you're doing it, but keeping it off is the challenge.

Bloomer 01-03-2008 06:16 PM

Hi everyone. I'm a veteran WWer -- lost about 30 pounds on it years and years ago (starting at a MUCH lower start weight than I am now) and then got cocky and thought I'd learned how to eat properly, and, over the intervening 20 years, have gained and gained and gained. My sins are not eating at regular times, not eating regular meals, and eating sweet snacks -- sodas, candy, cookies -- as meals.

I've joined and rejoined and tried on line and meetings, and never made it past the first three days, until last week. I rejoined last week online, and have found it very easy to stick to it this time. I chose a time when I was NOT stressed -- I have a work-at-home week until the second semester of school starts next week, and although I've been working constantly, I can still plan better, and stay on plan.

Well, I've not only lost weight, but, much more importantly, on day 4, I found I did not want the sodas and candy. It only took 3 days! I hope I can say this three months from now :) But for the first time in a long time I think I will be here three months from now.

Welcome to all the first-timers -- Julie, it does work. There's a lot to take on board. Many of us fail by trying to change everything at once, and many of us find, after many misstarts, that it's easier to work on one thing at a time. Maybe it's best for you to start to work on the eating plan first, and then add exercise. (That's what WW used to advise. They wouldn't even give you the exercise stuff until the 3rd week, as I remember it.) But stick with it, and it will work.

I switched my online account to the monthly one just now -- I've found I DO want to go to the meetings, and get the materials. It's a way to make myself stay connected.

tanner'smom 01-04-2008 09:05 AM

Welcome to all the newbies!!

I had my first weigh in since joining. I lost .8 which is great considering what has been going on the last few weeks. I am feeling really good right now and ready to see an even bigger loss next week.

We talked about exercise at my meeting. WW does want you to exercise. It is your week two materials. Yes you can lose weight without exercising but that isn't the healiest. We all know that you are supposed to get out and move.

Jasmine

suitejudyblueeyes 01-04-2008 09:42 AM

Good morning ladies,

Hope you don't mind if another new person hops in the thread. I'm going to my very first WW meeting tomorrow morning! I did WW online in 2004 and lost close to 30lbs... maintained it for about 8 months and then let it slowly creep back on over the next 3 years... those 30 lbs and 10 of their closest friends. I've moved away from my in-house support network (living with bfs in college) and am looking for the face-to-face support that a meeting will give. I have about 70lbs to lose total (I'm starting at around 215, and I don't think I want to get below 140, but then again, I've never once been 140 in my adult life so I have no idea how it feels!)... I don't have an end date in mind, as I'm not concerned with speed so much as taking it off without letting it come back!

That's about it by way of intro. I'm excited about my meeting tomorrow, though I hope it's not jammed with people since it's the first Saturday of a new year and such. Does anyone notice a difference in attendance at your meetings around now?

Congrats to all who are losing/maintaining, I hope to be there soon! :)

dusty57 01-04-2008 10:40 AM

Hi all! Back again. Went back to my WW meeting FINALLY last nite after a month of missing meetings. It felt good. Got the new info. So far from what I've looked at the points finder/slider/thingy is a little different. Doesn't seem to be as much 0 points foods.
Welcome to everyone else who joined here yesterday too! I have a dumb/funny question for the day.... if we want to get rid of our weight once and for all, why do we say we want to "lose" weight? Isn't it true that if you lose something, you want to find it again? I think from now on instead of saying I "lost" X amount of pounds I will say I got rid of it or something to that affect because I DEFINITELY don't want to find it again or worse--have IT find me again LOL!!!!
Just thought maybe I could make someone smile :))!!
Have a great day everyone!
Keepin' the faith...Dawn

Jane 01-04-2008 02:35 PM

Hi,

I'm glad to see all the chatting going on here. What a great support system! I need it today, since I seem to be craving sweets. I don't have any junk food in the house, thank goodness.

I've got yet another party to go to this weekend. It's a goodbye party for some friends. Ack! More food to deal with!

Have a good weekend. :)

DietinginDenver 01-04-2008 03:55 PM

Just saying hi, I'm new to this thread, and just rejoined WW yesterday. Am excited about the flex plan, and know I can do it this time!
Happy New Year everyone!

kelijpa 01-04-2008 07:07 PM

Dusty, I like to say however many lbs. off or down, not lost either. Although, if I lost them in my spare bedroom I would probably never find them :D

I started my tracker over again this year for that reason, too. Those lbs. I lost last year are gone for good, I'm concentrating on getting these off.

Welcome to all the new people, hope everyone's here at the end of the year! Like they say at the meetings "hope to see less of you next week". :)

Paintfancy 01-04-2008 08:01 PM

Hi there! Newbie here. I've never been on WW before and just started Wednesday. I've managed to make it through almost 3 days! Woohooo! :D I went into my first meeting bawling because I didn't think I could go even one day without sweets or staying on a "diet."

I chose the Flex Plan because I don't have to give up foods that I love. I just have to have them in moderation. I'm just praying that I can stay OP. I'm not very reliable with food, so currently it's day-by-day. I have no confidence about long-term YET. :^:

I've been exercising religiously for about 4 yrs now plus I dance for three hours every Thursday night. I'm even going to start teaching the dance class next Thursday! However, I don't lose any weight. I finally admitted that the problem is what's going into my mouth! :dizzy:

I've only been within my optimum weight range one time in my life- in 1992- and only for a short period of time. I really hope I can do this and stay with it for a lifetime.

I have lots of hobbies. Horses are the forefront of my life, second is dancing and third is scrapbooking. I have no excuse to eat this much!

This seems to be a positive uplifting group. I'm looking forward to partaking in the discussions. :D

freedomreins 01-04-2008 09:57 PM

Hello! Don't mean to interrupt the flow of conversation, but thought I would introduce myself! I tried WW in the summer, but only for about 3 weeks, and was really impressed with myself when I lost 4 pounds. I didn't feel like I was starving, and because I knew I could technically have chocolate or a cookie or whatever and just count it into my points, I found I didn't crave them as much! Anyway, I'm back at it, have been for a week now, and am finding it to be far easier than any other diet I've tried (though I have had a few dinners out with friends this week...). I have two aunts, both who have lost weight through WW, so I thought, as a university student who generally gets tempted by pizza and pub food, that I would give it a shot again to prepare for my 20th birthday in April (which I intend to buy a new, awesome dress for!). I've always just been a wee bit chunkier than I would like to be, and I'm going to be realistic with my goal because I think the 10% rule is a good idea, and I would be pretty stoked to lose 17 pounds, which would put me at a healthy body weight for my height and age. Is there anyone else here that is in university and struggling to beat the late-night study munchies and housemates that come home with takeout that somehow makes you want food when you really aren't hungry? :)

Nice to meet you all, and good luck with your goals! From the sliders on a lot of your signatures, I can see many of you are doing fantastic already! Congrats!

lacorso 01-04-2008 09:58 PM

:stress::carrot:Wanted to say hello to everyone out there and give a little hooray for myself for actually sticking to my points today and eating healthy:carrot:
I am so thankful for places like this that give support and motivation...I am going through a huge break up right now, and the stress is sometimes overwhelming..
Happier roads are ahead of me:dance:

kelijpa 01-05-2008 09:07 AM

Hooray for you, Linda! One day at a time!

patd 01-05-2008 10:30 AM

What staying on point this week did for me!

patd:carrot:

suitejudyblueeyes 01-05-2008 06:17 PM

So I went to my first ever meeting today, and I loved it! My leader was really energetic and upbeat and so happy for us to be there. She showed a before photo of herself and the change was amazing! It made me so excited to join and get started on weight loss again seriously. I think the meetings are going to be awesome with keeping me in line.

I was pretty surprised to find out I get 28 points per day... That seems low! I feel like last time I did WW (three years ago) I got 22 or 24... Not that I'm complaining, bring on the points :p There are actually a ton of recipes in the materials we got I'm looking forward to trying.

freedomreins: I'm a little older than you (24), but I can relate to the dangers of college and roommates and such, as I'm still in grad school and was doing WW last time during undergrad. It sure can be challenging to stay on track in a college setting. If you want to find a bunch of other people who are most likely in your same boat (but who aren't necessarily on WW), try the 20-somethings forum here under support forums, those ladies are super helpful and supporting and can totally relate to the college struggle :) Good luck!
