One year ago...

  • One year ago this week we moved back to our hometown in Orange County CA from a 10 year exile in the desert. Our first few weeks back my hubby and I bought new bikes. We were going to live the SoCal beach life! Bike to the beach, to the market, everywhere! Nevermind that we each weighed over 300 lbs, were looking 40 in the face, and had not been on a bike for well over 20 years. Isn't denial grand! Imagine my complete shock to discover that riding a bike is *gasp* hard and actual exercise!!!! I got half of a block and cried. No really. I bawled all the way back home. And then I didn't get on a bike again. Six months later, at the end of January, after we couldn't fit into the roller coaster at Knott's Berry Farm. I put us both on Weight Watchers.

Now, a year after my humiliating bike ride, 44lbs lighter, and 4-5 sizes smaller, I got back on my bike, ride 5.79 miles in 40 minutes!!!! I go three times as far in the same amount of time on the stationary bike at the gym, and earn 3 times as many activity points but THAT'S OK!

    I did it!
  • Congrats!!!!!!!
  • Yay!! You're doing AWESOME!
  • Thanks guys!
  • Whoo-hoo!!! Congratuatlions!
  • Congrats!! Your story really touched my heart....I could just feel you pedaling home in tears And I'm not a touchy feely kinda gal, lol. But I've been there....

    Way to go!
  • Congratulations. And the wonderful thing is that you sounds as though you're enjoying your riding! Keep up the great work.
  • HAHA Jessica I am not a touchy feely kinda gal either. It totally killed me that the stupid bike got the better of me. I wish that none of us had to get there, but the truth is, without getting there.....we wouldn't change anything!!! So it was good.
