  • Well, I reached my first mini-goal of losing 20 lbs., which is great, and I know I should be proud of myself. BUT...I just don't really see it.

I know the doctor's scale is accurate, and my formerly "skinny jeans" are now falling off of me--I don't even have to undo them to get them on and off, so I know in my head that I've lost weight, but I don't see it when I look in the mirror.

Has this happened with anyone else? I guess my mind hasn't caught up with my body yet...
  • Ho yes It does .... I am 15 pound away from my goal 125 .... i do not think that 15 will put me where I want to be.

You know i have this skinny and curvy girl in my mind.... I do not think so.

Just keep going you are doing great.
  • I have to agree with wf... I'm less than 10lbs from my goal and I don't think it'll put me where I want to be/what I pictured myself looking like. I've heard many, many times on here though that it takes a little while for your brain to catch up with your body. So, even though it might seem small now, it won't seem small later. If you haven't already, I highly recommend taking photos of your progress. You can look in the mirror and lie to yourself, but photos and clothes don't lie, lol.
  • I don't see much of a difference in my own body either, but the comments I get from my wife, and even co-workers who are beginning to notice has given me the reassurance I need. If you are noticing the difference in how your clothes are fitting, that is a great sign that you certainly are getting thinner, and on the right track, so don't loose heart!
  • You will get there!
  • thanks for the encouragement! i know my head is the problem because the scale doesn't lie!
  • OnAndOn,

did you take a before pic, or have any old pics of you at your beginning weight?

i was actually just looking at my before pics, and my now pics...and wow i really see the difference.
like you, my brain STILL hasn't really caught up with it, and i've lost 65 pounds already. i've gotten into smaller jeans than i was wearing before.. but i guess because the SHAPE of my body hasn't really changed much, i still saw myself as i did then, when infact i'm still the same SHAPE, just a smaller version on it.

try taking pics every 20 pounds, or even 10 pounds if you want. whichever you prefer, and keep them somewhere for you to glance at when you feel this way. i know looking at my pics today really boosted my mood!! haha
  • Believe me, it takes your brain a while to catch up with the weight loss
    Congrats!!!!
  • This has happened to me I still dont see a change I have lost almost 50lbs and still think I look the same. I would track pictures I think that is the best way to do it. You are doing great!! Way to go!
  • Everytime but it gets better. Congrats :]
  • I am not quite at 20 lbs yet but do have pants that are falling off and still think I look the same. I havnt had any comments from friends or family yet either. I agree it is frustrating but the truth is you are smaller. You see yourself every day so the gradations are small. But it is happening! Congrats on the mini goal!
  • Congrats on your loss!
  • You're doing great!!! Congrats!!!
  • But it is THERE even if it is hard for you to feel and see right now. Eventually all of a sudden you will really be able to tell it!
  • I've lost 14 pounds and now everyone is commenting and I honestly don't see one bit of difference. I think I look exactly the same!
