NSV - Ran a 5K!

  • After many weeks of "almost" (read that as: could get to 2.8 miles and just couldn't quite finish those last .3 miles which is like what, 3 or 4 minutes of running?) this morning I finally sucked it up, buttercup, and ran a 5K on the tread mill. Was determined and dug my heels in and did it. Time was 35:40. Yay me!

Now the question is . . . can I do it again?
  • Well of course you can! Good job by the way. This is what I have been attempting as of late, too, and dammit, I will get there!
  • Sheer determination is what got me through that 'mind game' of those last .3 miles.

I also kept a steady 5.2mph pace (even though I wanted to go faster at times) because I wanted to just run 5K. Speed will come later (hopefully!)

Good luck and know that you CAN do it!
  • Learning to run...
Love your picture! and your comments. I am working on getting back to running and just took a few "running steps" on the treadmill (walking quickly is my normal work out) When I lost weight "the last time" , we all have a last time I became a runner and was proud of it. A slow runner - but a runner none the less doing 5 & 10k runs after losing 120lbs. I would love to get back to that.. but now I need to lose that 120 AGAIN! But it all starts like you have done... with going further than last time. So hears to you and all of us working and sweating at our own paces.
  • thelootlady -- my mottos are "I may not be there yet but I'm closer than I was yesterday" and "no matter how slow you go you're lapping everyone on the couch". One step at a time still gets you to where you're going. You can do it! I'm headed off to the TM in a bit and am going to see if I can do it again. If not, I'll go as far as I can and that is sure better than parking in on the sofa!
  • I did it again! Whoo hoo!!!!!!!!!
  • Congratulations! That's awesome!
  • Great job! I've decided I want to try running. I've been fitted for sneakers, now I'm just waiting for the industrial strength sports bra to come off backorder.

You rock, and you inspire me!
  • loose seal--great job!! keep up the good work!
  • Loose seal,

That's fantastic! You're on a roll now. You've reached another milestone. Posts like yours inspire me so much to keep going. I want to start running again too, but I don't want to have two black eyes... Hehe...But, I am getting smaller and look forward to start running again before too long. I can, however, do a 5K on a bike! I know it's easier, but hey, it's something!

Also, I LOVE your mottos - "I may not be there yet but I'm closer than I was yesterday" and "no matter how slow you go you're lapping everyone on the couch". I am going to borrow them if you don't mind. In the meantime, do the Happy Dance
  • Thank you all for the very kind and encouraging words!

I find a lot of inspirational/motivational stuff on Pinterest -- yeah, I know like I really need to be sitting on mah butt forever browsing there, pinning recipes for chocolate alongside rock-hard-ab workouts. But I find myself browsing my own boards frequently, reading my pins (which is where I got my siggie sayings) and it helps.

Another one I just saw was "It never gets easier. You just get better." I LIKE it!
  • Congratulations, that's great!
