NSV: I went down a size - a chair size!!

So we have those ubiquitous Herman Miller Aeron chairs at my office. These chairs come in 3 sizes - A for tiny people, C for big people, and B for everyone else. When we moved to the current office, they ordered me a C (which was technically the correct size... but me and the former college linebackers... yay).

I have been testing out the B chairs periodically, and finally, today it was juuuuuust right!

(And one of the bigger guys who had outgrown his B was more than happy to swap with me.)

Awesome!! We had those chairs for 10 years, so I know exactly what you're talking about. How's this for humiliation...I sat down in mine once (kind of hard admittedly - I sort of bounced into it) and the seat frame snapped. I was horrified because I instantly thought my weight broke it. Then my 140 pound (tiny) male colleague did the same to his a week later, LOL, and I breathed a sigh of relief. Turns out the first generation of those Aeron chairs frequently snapped like that and had to be fixed. Super comfy chairs though!

Oh, and technically, of it makes you feel any better, the C size is the 'manager' grade chair, the B is the 'worker bee/task' grade chair and the A size is the conference room grade chair. At least that's what our Herman Miller rep told us at one point. But yes, they are different widths. Congrats on being able to downsize!!!

Nope, they are actually sized for appropriate ergonomic fit. There is a height/weight chart and everything. :o We had reps from the company come and help us adjust them all when we first got them. I can't imagine one breaking on me, yikes!!!

Congratulations! As an aside, man, I have to say that I would be so embarrassed in front of my coworkers if we were all measured for chairs, and I had to get the largest size. I understand it is for comfort, but it would be like announcing my weight to everyone I work with!

They didn't publicly measure us for sizes - but I am imagining the office manager & assistants sitting in a room making a list of all the fat people... ugh.

Congrats on the smaller booty!

Yay! Congratulations!

It's not the same, but yesterday I actually fitted in the seats at our dingy old cinema. Last time I was there I sort of had to shift my a*s to the side a bit because the armrests were strangling me. Yesterday, the chair was a comfortable fit!

And it sounds so strange that you guys get fitted for chairs. Wow. I hope I never take a job where I have to be subjected to that! That said, I'm terrified of breaking a chair every time I sit in one, so it really doesn't matter.
