Talking the journey continues!!

Ok!! so here it goes...I gain an enormous amount of weight(326) when I gave birth to my 3 children. I went through a mini mid-life crisis so to speak where I was so unhappy with the way my body looked. I turned thirty and decided that I needed to take care of my temple. I proceeded to undertake my transformation: I joined a gym, went on a low carb diet(Adkins). The weight started to come off(currently 235). That diet worked well but I couldn't handle the ketones that came through the breath( I had dragon breath). So I re-introduced carb back into my diet...can you say disaster. I am not saying anything bad about Adkins(minus the dragon breath) I needed to completely change my lifestyle completely...hince I came here so see where this leads me. So starting Monday I will seriously start the lifestyle change including the conjuring up the discipline to get on a fitness program. So feel free to give any pointers on how to get to my goal of 174...yaay!!! I'm on the way!!

I think you just have to try try try different things. My suggestions is either Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig. If you can afford Jenny for a bit try it out. What they will give you is a nutrition plan that you will notice is fairly simple to repeat without their food. Weight Watchers will help you stay a little more focus on choose your own food. For workouts you just have to find what you like. I have done ever workout possible. Bikram Yoga Moksha Yoga, Pilates, Boxing, Running, Hiking, Biking and this week I finally found the one I exercise I love... aerobics classes. For the first time in my life I am planning my day around classes at my gym. I know you can do it. Best of luck.

I recently moved from low-carb to low GI and found that, by adding the carbs back very gradually, I didn't get disasterous weight bounces.

I'm now counting calories (1400) and making sure my carbs are LOWER rather than low - no more than 110g a day. From low carb I've taken the principles of not eating processed garbage and making my carbs 'worth it'. I don't always get it right and sometimes eat my carb allowance way before my calorie allowance is used up. On those days, I take the carbs more seriously and stop eating, even if, like on Friday, I could have had 500 more calories.

I will say that, because there is more to choose from on calorie counting than on simple low carb, there are therefore more decisions to make, and that can be hard work. Doing all right so far, though.

Congratulations on your loss already!

It has been very insightful losing weight because it is so easy to gain it but getting it off has been a bit more difficult. I hope to find a happy medium with my eating habits and consistently work out to get the balance that I think I need to get to my goal. Thanks for responding and good luck on your journey!!
