First 5k!!

I ran my first 5k on Saturday with my dad, and my goal was to not walk at all. NOT ONLY did I not walk at all, I finished in 29 min and 47 seconds!! That's less than 10 minute miles!! It's amazing to see all the hard work of running consistently pay off.

I actually did one 5k previously but I don't count it as a race. . .it was in Fall of '07 and I walked probably about 1/3 of it b/c I just couldn't keep running. When I got to the finish line I could barely manage a jog, much less push for that good finish! This time I actually paced myself too well and sprinted at top speed all the way down the hill across the finish line!!

I think I may actually qualify as a runner now :carrot:

Oh that is so awesome - congrats!!!

Conratulations! I'm looking forward to that experience, maybe in the spring.

Way to Go!

That is awesome!!!!!!!!! Congratulations.....All your hard work is certainly paying off and you are certainly a Runner in my book:carrot:

I will be running my first 5K this Sunday and will be happy to finish in under 35 minutes ;) I'm planning my second one in Mid- December with a goal of finishing under 30 minutes (but I need to conquer this one first) :D

Thanks girls, you all are so sweet and supportive! Good luck with your running! If you're looking for a training program, check out http://www.halhigdon.com/index.html . . . my dad showed me this website and apparently Hal Higdon is known in the running world as a really smart guy and his training programs are pretty sweet! I used the 5k one to help train.

I almost squealed when I saw your post! I too have just finished my first 5K. Well, it was almost 3 weeks ago now, but I'm still ridding high on the feeling of "mission accomplished". I had set a goal for myself about a year ago when I first started what I call now, sort of running on the treadmill. I wanted to "finish a 5K before my 40th birthday". I did just that with just over a month to spare. I turn 40 on November and because of my 56 pound weight loss and un-known inches lost and the fact that I set a goal and met it is-well-just incredible to me. I feel like I can do anything now. I do feel like a runner now. I like to run. Not love. but like. I love the feeling I get a little bit more than half way done...I guess that is the "runners high" I always heard of. Makes me make better food choices the rest of the day, and gives me strength when I "want" to cave into whatever sweet treat is in front of me...why undo all of the good that I have done?
So, anyway, yea...I know how you are feeling. Pretty neat, huh?

Oh geez, I didn't think of that one. I'm gonna have to find and do one a little sooner than I thought :o.

Manick - thank you!!! it feels awesome to be able to call myself that :)

plainsgirl - I know exactly what you mean about the "mission accomplished" feeling! It's amazing! Congrats on accomplishing your goal, that's amazing! I hope I can still do it when I'm 40!

Jamie - you're so sweet for thinking of me :) thank you! And if you work at it you will definitely be there someday, I have faith in you! You can do it!!

I did C25K week 4 day 1 yesterday...about killed me, but I made it. I'm sore today for the first time since doing the C25K so hopefully it's working for me!

We'll have to plan to run a 5K if we ever go on a 3FC trip!

Congratulations, running without a break to walk a little is a real accomplishment! I remember my first (and only) 5K and how happy I was to just finish it and how good it felt to over take the person in front of me near the finish. With your excitement, I may plan to run my second one next spring - after reaching some weight goals w/help of this site.

Again, good for you!

Hey that's really cool about the 5K! I'm planning to run my first 5K in about two weeks....actually, it's a run/walk 5K, so I feel a little less intimidated that I would if it were a hard-core one. But your story really motivates me to go through with it!
