A milestone reached (though maybe not the way I'd like)
Everything seemed fine on June 29: I planned my lunchtime walk route to get at least a mile and a half in, then stopped at a little coffee house for lunch. What I got though, was way more fat and grease than I really needed (tuna melt with a LOT of fries). The diet gods punished me: I woke up the following morning, shivered uncontrollably for 2 hours and called in sick. The shivering eventually subsided with a hot bath, but in the afternoon I noticed my right leg (the site of an old injury, making me vulnerable to edema) was red, swollen and tingly. I got into an urgent care clinic and a doctor there looked at it and prescribed antibiotics, but said the infection would get worse for a couple of days before it improved. He was right. It sure killed my appetite for about a week, and I lost a few pounds accordingly. Another doctor at my regular clinic looked at it and recommended ACE bandages and elevation. At a follow-up visit to the second doctor on day 8, the combination of antibiotics, compression and elevation seemed to be achieving the desired result. I weighed in that week, and when I saw an "8" before the dot my heart sank: then I looked again and, after months of being on a plateau in the 260# range, it said "258.6". YEAH!
Since then, another week has gone by, I feel a whole lot better (but still haven't been quite up to resuming all-out exercise because the ankle remains a bit sore), Appetite and Willpower are once again in their never-ending cagematch ... but when I stepped on the scale today I'd lost 4 more #!!!! :carrot: That means I've lost 52 pounds since the start of the diet (but I don't recommend getting a damn infection as part of YOUR diet plan)!
