Eating Out

  • I need tips for eating out! I went to Chili's last night and despite them having the "Guiltless Grill" menu options, using an app on my iPhone, I found that most of those items were still packed with up to 800 calories, over 60 carbs and I didn't even look at the fat content. I ended up with a grilled chicken sandwich on wheat bun, without the bacon and cheese. I had a salad on the side with citrus balsamic dressing (probably loaded with sugar) and they STILL had the nerve to bring out fries. :O

Also, my lunch schedule is quite a pain and I end up picking up something quick every day. Luckily I have a good grocery store down the street where I can get a good salad with chicken and oil and vinegar or a grilled chicken and veggies plate... but that gets old. What could I get that is on plan from a drive through window?

Another complaint regarding this... the other day I had to eat at Wendy's (NOT my choice) and I went with the apple pecan salad and it was DIS.GUS.TING. I ended up eating a meal replacement bar... :/

Sorry this was such a long post but I need help!
  • Check with your center - my center has a few sheets with fast food suggestions and local restaurants.

    For Chili's they suggest -
Grilled Chicken Caesar - no croutons & bring your own dressing.
Guiltless Chicken Platter - with no rice or corn.
Southwestern Cobb Salad - add chicken, no bacon, corn relish or pico. Fajitas - Chicken, steak or Portobello Mushrooms - no guacamole, sour cream, beans or rice. No cheese at dinner. 1/2 tortilla only.
Steamed Broccoli side dish or Seasonal Veggies.

The only thing for Wendy's that's on here is the Grilled Chicken Salad

    Hope this helps.
  • My mom used to get two of the McDonalds chicken salad shakers and use her own dressing. At Chilis it's always better to sub broccoli for any side, and ask for it with no butter. I thought their guiltless grill was much better than that and that they posted the nutrition info under the items on the menu. I used to get the steak and broccoli (dinner time). Try to stick with grilled meat and steamed veggies.

Chick Fil A has good options-- fresh fruit, grilled chicken and salad. Eating out is hard, and fast food is particularly hard. Maybe you could try taking your lunch a couple times to see if it's possible. With a good lunchbox and an ice pack, you'd be surprised how long something can stay cold.
  • I take my lunch every day, but decided today that I didn't really want to eat it. I went to Subway and ordered their chicken spinach salad. They even have separate packets of olive oil and red wine vinegar! That Subway has a drive-thru window.

LOVE subway! I usually get their roasted chicken salad with both lettuce & spinach. And I love their olive oil & vinegar packets. Easy-peasy.
  • Subway is always my go-to place for eating out. I was also quite proud of myself the other day--at a local burger joint I got a turkey burger with no bun and grilled veggies instead of fries.
