turkey burgers

does anyone know if turkey burgers are ok to eat on plan? I had a butterball turkey burger tonight for dinner and it was so yummy! but then after i ate it i started wondering if it was the right choice for dinner....:)

I just bought some of those too. I figured it might be ok since ground turkey is on plan but I suppose sodium could be an issue. But then it's hard to find even a plain uncooked chicken breast without a sodium solution added to it anymore so I suppose it could go either way. Probably should ask at the center.

Make your own with just ground turkey and spices and freeze your own. That way you don't have all the sodium. The premades are really high in sodium...and sometimes they have extra carbs and fats with the "fillers" that they use.

good idea! Thanks!

I've been using the White Lean turkey burgers and they are good! per the box there is nothing added to them, zero carbs etc.. it's nice because you can just grab one from the freezer and pop right on a pan to heat up, quick and easy :) I did find that after cooking it takes about 1 1/2 to equal 4 oz so you might wanna keep that in mind. The pkg says they are 4 oz already but once cooked they shrink, even the white meat ones.

If burgers are made from BREAST meet, should be okay.

Spryng, thank you! I'll look for those at walmart tonight!

In looking online at the Jennie O products, this one looks especially good -- it is Extra Lean Ground Turkey Breast, and the sodium level is good.

Then the next one, which still looks pretty good is:

Thank you ladies! I'm gonna try the jennie-o ones next, I asked at the center today and she said the butterball brand was fine just to up my water a little or soak them in water before hand.

How do you cook them so they don't end up tasting as dry as cardboard?

Sunshine0105 11-12-2010 05:58 PM

I've only had one so far and I just used cooking spray and pan fried it and it wasn't dry at all.
