Weight Gain While On Program

Is it possible to gain weight while following program? Especially if I started exercising more this week then I have in the past (I started dance class--5 of them! So an extra 5 hours of exercise) It is also time for my period to come. The scale says I've gained 4 pounds since Monday. Please tell me this can't be happening. And what do I say to my consultant at my weigh in tomorrow?? THANKS!

Be honest with yourself about being on and staying on program. You have to be committed or yes you may gain. There are other possibilities for a gain such as plateaus and what not but you posted on 06/28 that you were having a rough day the day before and ate fake ice cream.

I think you can stay on program and you'll be amazed by your results just hang in there and give it your all.

One thing to remember, too, is that when a person begins exercise or drastically increases exercise time/intensity, the body often reacts by holding on to more water. Keep it up and you'll see those losses!

yes, I agree.....with the water. Drink more water, and change your food so that you're eating fairly close to dance class, that way you're flushing out stuff while you're body thinks that extra 5 hours of exercise isn't going to kill you. :)

Definitely drink a LOT water and I ALWAYS showed gains when it came to that time of the month! It never failed- but if you stick to it when TOM is gone you'll see a big drop :)

Also if you weight train. you will gain weight as you build muscle. Just remember 1 pound of muscle is a lot smaller then one pound of fat. Check your inch losses and see if the weight is fat or not

It is totally possible to gain water weight during your period -- whether you're staying on program or not! Drink a lot of water!

You mentioned that ice cream a few days ago - that is NOT on program, so if you ate even a bite of that, that is enough to kick you out of ketosis and give you a gain. You have to be honest when you say that you are 100% faithful to program - that ice cream is not on program.

when i did the program the first time, i found the more exercise I did, the worse my loss was for that week. in my opinion, i dont think we get enough food if you are doing alot of exercise.
Just keep on program and drink alot of water. I hope it works for me this 2nd time around

I have been drinking water--but a question to those commenting about me not staying on program--can those extra 128 calories make me gain 4 lbs? Don't think that's possible. I'd have to eat an extra 12,000 calories. 12,000. There is no way.

It's not the calories, it's the ingredients in the food, including sodium and carbs which will lead to bloat and water retention. You're not gaining weight, you're gaining bloat.

For me sabotaging my ketosis state over a bite or two of something non-program is so NOT worth it and has totally kept me on program. I haven't come this far to blow it for a bite of something and have to wait 3 days to be in ketosis again. I have had many challenges as we all do, but something feels so good at the end of the day to mentally go through my day and know that I made all the right choices and that I really can do this.

You're right and MTgal if you get on program and stick to it 100% by eating nothing that is not on your list you'll see those 4 pounds drop off just as fast as they went on.

You might try a B6/B12 water soluable daily vitamin from your local vitamin shoppe - it helps flush out water. It really helped me w/my water retention. During my period, I take 2 per day to help w/water, then take 1 per day throughout the rest of the month. I paid $8 for 60 tabs - they are chewable (and actually pretty yummy to chew)! :)
