I'm on the green menu now - has anyone calculated what the typical daily calories are for that?

Yes, I calculated it out to approx 900 calories per day. That was with two clear HNS. Pretty low...

The calories in the green menu depend on your food choices. I love hard cheese and 2 oz of cheese is 210 whereas 4 oz of cottage cheese is only 100. Fish is less calories than beef.

I know this is an old post, but my recent encounter with my center might help. I am 35 pounds from goal and when I went in to quit the program (because I got burnt out and needed a break) I told them I wanted to just go back to eating healthy and counting calories. They told me they have a calorie counting menu, which I assume is not for maintenance since I am no where near the maintenance part. So maybe ask your center for their options of menus.

Hi Desilu - It's not really that old - at least it's not as old as me... :p I'll be curious to hear how it goes with calorie counting rather than eating from the categories - can you eat anything you want as long as you stay within the calorie parameters?

It is good to know that a scale like that can be purchased. I think I will invest in one.. That way you always know where you stand with your weight other than just weight..

Cheers!
Ronnie

My scale is on the fritz - I weighed myself, then did it again 5 minutes later just cuz I was walking by and I'd lost 1.5 lbs. Then after breakfast I weighed myself again, cuz I was wondering if it was broken, and I'd gained 4 lbs - from two eggs, toast, HNS and water. So then a few minutes later, when I was just in my underwear I weighed myself again, cuz I'm insane, and I'd lost 6.5 lbs. I know a person's weight fluctuates during the day, but that just can't be right. I'm heading to the store for a new one.

Check your Tanita printouts. They tell the number of calories to maintain that weight at the bottom. I was fortunate to purchase a scale that is similar to the Tanita. My scale is made by Taylor, sold as a Biggest Loser product (google: Biggest Loser 5568BL ). I paid $27 at BJ's Warehouse but Wal-Mart sells it for $34.

It tells me my weight, percentage of fat, water and lean muscle, BMI and number of calories needed to maintain that weight. I weigh myself first thing in the morning (after using the toilet) and last thing before I go to bed.

I got it last July and when I started stabilization it said I needed about 1300 cal to maintain. I was given the 1200 cal menu but no one said I should eat just a little more. I do not keep real close tabs on the number of calories I'm taking in but I have been maintaining right in that same range for 4 months now. I keep a spread sheet of the reading so I can see trends.

Taylor also makes a Biggest Loser nutritional scale for about $40 - wish I had that when I was weighing my food so religiously. Porchmom, I'm going to try using SparksPeople. Thanks. jeanette

What a great tip on the scales. Did you find that the weight scale was giving you a readout comparable to the one at your center? I am always skeptical if these things really work

The two or three times I've had a Tanita reading, the values on my scale that morning and evening were similar but not identical. I have about a 2-3 lb difference between morning and evening.

I have been pleased with the consistency of the Taylor scale. When I weigh myself multiple times in a row, the weight, BMI and caloric values do not change. The percentage fat, water and lean mass do but by very little. But these readings are dependent on reading the body resistance/current through the feet. I was concerned about the variance between morning and night readings so I wet a corner of a washcloth and wipe the metal where I stand before weighing every time now. Keeps the scale clean and conditions consistent.

In my spreadsheet, I calculate the pounds fat, water and lean from the percentage readings, and then add the 3. They come up to more than my actual weight and the booklet from Taylor says this is because water is included in both the water % and lean mass %. I figure as long as the scale is consistent, it is okay if the actual % of fat or water is not as accurate as a Tanita. It will let me know relatively from one day to the next whether I am gaining fat or not as hydrated as I should be.

Have a great day, PorchMom. jeanette

Is there a way you can share the formatting of your spreadsheet?
