Holiday Temptations

STAY OUT OF THE BREAK ROOM! STAY OUT OF THE BREAK ROOM!!

This is the memo going through my head all day long! Oh the cookies, candies and assorted treats that are piled on the table. I'm so close to my pre-vacation goal - I know I can do this!

I hope you all have a great OP week!! :D

Keep up the great work. Don't let anyone or anything take this away from you. You are in control!

I am so with you! It is such a slippery slope from sampling a few treats to getting off program completely, so I am just trying to stay away from the random treats at the job, and looking forward to treating myself a little on the actual holiday. Everyone at the job complains that they gain 10-15 pounds each holiday season, and that is not going to be me!

I am the entire social committee at my job. Just me. We had our holiday party today and not only did I have to set everything up, I even had to CUT all of the yummy gooey holiday treats (I'm talking about brownies, cheesecakes, pies, etc) as people brought them in. I'm proud to say that I ate completely on plan from the things I brought mixed with a bit of meat and cheese from the party tray. It can be done! We all have the power to say NO and do what we know we need to do to reach our goals! My goal is to be in the 100's by Jan. 15th (my bday) and I'm not going to reach that goal unless I say NO to party foods! Stick with it MRC'ers! We can do it!

desilu0 12-14-2009 04:51 PM

I am also the one person party committee at my work and ever since I started MRC in September it's been "when's the next pot luck" or "what are we doing for Halloween" or "are we going to have a Christmas party outside work and at work or one or the other?". Rough, man, rough. I am happy to say that I haven't planned a darned thing. If they want something bad enough someone else can plan it, that way I'm not forced to be involved in all the bad food. I know that's a bad way to think, but there's fifty people at my work and I'm the only one that gets to plan things? I don't think so.

How do I get your tracker to show up on my strings as my tracker.

dance4ever 12-15-2009 12:12 PM

I am so with you on this one. I just received an email that we are having two full days of snacking in the office Monday and Tuesday and then on Wednesday we are having a catered lunch. I have had a lot of will power so far and have stayed OP but this I'm afraid may push me over the edge. I've got to come up with a plan and stick to it. I can stay out of the break room just fine. But can they keep all those good smells in there? Thinking about putting on a Rudolph nose and antlers so that I look festive, but really it's so I can't smell all that good stuff.

You have to have a minimum amount of posts, which I think is 20 so you should be good soon. I went to Tickerfactory.com and created one, then copied the code and pasted it under User CP - Edit signature.

I went over the edge. Help me!

indiana it is already the middle of the day; you can pull yourself back. So stop feeding or grazing or whatever mindless eating you are doing. You don't need to let a little slip become an avalanche of overeating.

If you are really hungry, eat what you had planned for your lunch; get yourself hydrated and when your next meal comes around eat on program. Stay out of the (insert your particular temptation here) and stay the heck off the scale. The number reflected is not going to be actual fat, but a blip caused by sodium and water retention.

It is a tough time of year to navigate weight loss, but you are doing great on program!

yes, you are so right about the scales. It is depressing when I go to the scales and have gained. Strength....strength....Lord knows I need strength. Thank you for the feed back.:p

I am with you as well, the temptation is overwelming this time of year.
Party after party, everytime someone mentions going somewhere I start freaking out about the eating-do you remember when we would be asked to go somewhere how excited we would get about the free food???
Who would have ever thought we would not want to go because of the free food?? Certain stores or the mall with the candy store, yes we need strength and self control. sexyrene

I was doing so good the last few weeks, then the dreaded christmas party hit. I stayed away from all the gooey treats, and dangerous dips. I thought I had done pretty good considering all the stuff that was around. I was up a pound today. :-( I've gotten right back on track, but that tiny bite of cheesecake, a couple glasses of wine and a crustini were definately not worth it. Stay on track ladies.. We can do it..

I've still got our Office party and all the treats vendors sent us to deal with.

Thank you. I think they are so cute.

Crud! I can't believe what I did when I'm so close to 40 lbs! I didn't avoid the coffee bar today. Evidently every client we've ever had sent holiday baskets today. It started with a harmless piece of cheese and one little cracker that snow balled into 2 chocolate truffles, 5 chocolate pretzels, peanut brittle, Harry and David Moose Munch, and brie. Ugh! I have no clue what happened to my resolve but I was seriously out of control. I think it's from being out of food at home and not going to the store. I didn't eat a full breakfast or lunch so when I saw the snacks in the afternoon I lost control. Oh well tomorrow is another day. I'm hydrating tonight to see if I can get the salt/sugar rush out of me (not sure if that's effective but I think it's working). It's so cold here and it's making it difficult to work out. All I want to do is curl up by the fire. I'm going to avoid the coffee bar like the plague and make sure I eat my breakfast, lunch and snacks so I don't feel inclined to indulge. Maybe I'll go walking at lunch tomorrow.

So if you slip up and have a cookie, etc. you can hydrate "drink more water" and it will overcome your slip up....I did not know that.

Hvnlymzic 12-16-2009 07:28 PM

Well I wouldn't say more water will overcome it, but it will flush things out quicker. Your slip up is still a slip up, but the water won't hurt anything :)

I was noticing at work today that someone had brought chex mix and this really good popcorn--both in smaller containers. I haven't eaten any but noticed that others are taking small bites and enjoying it....and I was thinking that if I weren't going through my "lifestyle change" right now....that food would be GONE....as I would have kept nibbling.....which probably explains why I'm in a "lifestyle change" mode and the others aren't/don't need to be. I look forward to the day where I can nibble and enjoy without it taking over as it has in the past.

Funny you brought this up - I was thinking the same thing last night when I was telling hubby about all the treats we got from vendors yesterday...and there was some left over so they were packing up take home baggies. (I grabbed one for my kids and hubby since I'm not making desserts much at home anymore)...I thought last year we never had food left to take home in the evening - the only difference this year is I'm not eating...WOW I never realized how much food ran my life!! (The realized the snacks we do have in the house have lasted a lot longer than they used to - not on the shopping list as often as before with me not inhaling them!!) But aside from feeling a little "left out" of the festivities, I am not really missing the food either - another GREAT discovery!

MrsBenson 12-17-2009 01:31 PM

Well, most of my department is having the annual Christmas Potluck in the breakroom. I am here eating my Chicken Cranberry Salad - thanks for the yummy recipe FiftiesLady! The only thing that is making this all worthwhile was that this morning I went to WI and have lost 19 pounds and 19 inches in 48 days...No amount of stuffing my face with food could make me feel this good! Thank you to everyone on this board for your inspirational stories, tips and ideas! You've all been a lifesaver, even if I do more reading than posting. Hope everyone has been having a great week!

TeresaG 12-17-2009 03:28 PM

Looks like everyone has a lot to deal with this week. Stay strong.

I read today that burning a Vanilla Candle can stimulate the brain in a simliar way to eating sweets. I burn candles all day and normally it's a food scented one. I try to pick ones that smell like something that I would love to eat. I smell it all day and maybe it's mind over matter, but I think it helps. Just thought I'd drop that in here just in case anyone else wants to try it.

OK, I just have to ask what is TOM. I know what it implies but what are the actual words for the letters. The last one "M" I know.

dance4ever 12-18-2009 12:37 PM

"T"ime "o"f the "M"onth

DUH!!!!!!!! Can you believe that just did not come to me.???

NotaFatBride 12-20-2009 03:35 PM

not going to give up- The water made me feel a little better. All of the sugars and salt made my body feel yucky. My center acknowledges that slip ups happen and recommends lots of water when you do. Not sure why. I just do what I'm told :)

porchmom84 12-22-2009 05:49 PM

I ALMOST lost it today......a client brought in Cheesecake Factory Cheesecake and there was a snicker's kind in the mix (3 different kinds)....oh I was so close....and I'm still thinking about the food (even though I'm at home away from it). This is NUTS! But I did it.....for today and tomorrow hopefully the craving won't be quite as strong???
