Please help me understand Ketosis

  • I'm pretty sure it means burning fat? But I was confused because someone mentioned going out of ketosis for taking a bite of something off plan. You can go off for just taking a bite? Yikes!
  • Ketosis is when your body uses fat for energy.

Usually people who are in a constant state of ketosis are doing low carb- your body prefers to use carbs for energy vs. fat because it's easier to burn.

Ketones are made when your fat is metabolized. Someone who eats less carbohydrates has more ketones in their system and are more likely to stay in Ketosis.

    Does that make sense?

It also depends on what that bite was? A sugary substance or doughnut or bread?
  • Thanks for the info! I'd much rather be burning fat than carbs I go in for my first WI tomorrow and I'm hoping their scale says what mine does!

Another question - what is Onderland? I've seen that word around, but I have no idea what it is...

Onderland is when someone's weight is in the 100's...i.e. 198
  • MRC says that it takes 3 days of OP meals to get back into ketosis, but after my two bites o cake I think I am back into ketosis this morning. I think it all depends on what you ate and how much you ate, also eating extra protein should not throw you out of ketosis. I have my own Keto stix so I am gonna check later this morning. I will let you know.
  • This ketosis business is pretty interesting!
  • I had trace amounts of ketones earlier this morning when I checked. Before the cake I was moderate.
