  • Anybody doing IF at the moment?

I'm gonna try it from Monday and see what kind of results i get. I'll be starting off with a 6 hour eating window probably around (11 am - 5pm) it will depend on each day what time i'll break my fast.

I'll see how the week goes, if i'm getting good results i'll slowly lower my eating window. I'm also gonna start making my excercise sessions more intense.
  • I am. I have breakfast (7am) and stop eating at lunch (around 1pm). A six hour window is quite aggressive and I note you are starting with this, so you may not need to drop it much if it works for you.

I then combined IF with healthy, low calorie foods for breakfast and lunch and that really started to make me lose (I was losing anyway on IF).

IF works for me because I used to eat dinner without feeling hungry so it was an easy meal to drop. I just didn't need it.

I still drink beer in the evenings. You know that...

Let me know how it goes. It would be nice to have a male IF buddy.
  • Nice one Ian, i'll keep you posted.
  • How's your first day of IF going IrishLad?
  • Well it's 5:57pm here now and i just had my dinner before 5, got my calories in for the day and now fast until 10am-12pm all depends on what things i have going on that day as i don't want to restrict myself to a certain time in the day to break fast.

But yeah so far so good, had a good workout before i broke my fast and i'll workout again around 9pm.
  • Good for you! Let us know how the weight loss goes after a few days. You could see quite dramatic results. I did/am.
  • I've thought about trying this and have heard of people having great results. Definitely let us know how it goes.
  • Why did i not do IF in the first place!!

I've made alot of changes this week and i'm seeing very good results, never been this excited about my weight loss before!

    Motivation is through the roof!

    Because you never asked!
  • Welcome to the forum bigsky always great to see new people here!
  • would you guys mind givin' me a clear definition of what this is? I mean, it has fasting in the name so I wont do it but still curious.
  • I did it without knowing what it was.

Intermittent fasting (IF) is a pattern of eating that alternates between periods of fasting (usually meaning consumption of water only and sometimes very low-calorie foods ) and non-fasting. In other words, it means eating during a window and then not eating or only eating in a highly calorie restricted way during the fast.

Some people eat for a few days and then fast a whole day or even two.

I eat daily but just between 7am and 1pm which means I skip dinner although technically I could still eat dinner as long as I had this before 1pm!!

Others eat during different windows, sometimes skipping breakfast (I assume Irishlad is doing this).

One school of thought is to eat what you want during the window then eat nothing or highly calorie restricted during fasting.

I choose to eat low calorie/healthy during my window and then nothing (except beer!) while fasting to max out on my weight loss and to keep my diet balanced (e.g. I would not want to eat just fast food and processed food during my window like some choose to).

The idea is that by restricting your calorie intake during the fasting period you lose weight. For example, by skipping dinner I'm giving up a third of my daily calories in one hit.

    Hope it makes sense.

If you cannot stand the thought of missing one of your three daily meals then it may not be for you. I was eating dinner late at night without feeling hungry so it came naturally for me to drop it. I learnt later that this was a form of IF.

    I can't wait for Irishlad's weigh in!
  • Nuuuuuuuuupe! Not for me LOL.
  • Here's an article on it.

  • My goal calories for each day is 1800.

I zig zag my calories everyday while on IF, for example i'll eat 1400 calories one day but the next i might eat 2000 to keep the metabolism up. I'm doing this since Monday and i feel great and seeing alot of improvement in my weight loss. It's giving me alot of discipline in stopping myself from snacking late night.

I'm getting more fit now so i've been doing a good bit more exercise too.

So far so good, i think i found what works for me and i'm sticking to it.
