Beer
Beer is a bit of a red line for me as far as diets go. I love the stuff. And I don't know how any of the West Coast guys on here can drink anything else given the quality of their IPAs. Thankfully I live on the East Coast but the Green Flash still makes it through.
The bottom line is I am integrating beer into my diet. Healthy, no. But it's got to work for me.:shrug: At least that's what I told my doctor. |
I will not not have beer. Moderation is key (Read: that turns into infrequent binge drinking ) Once and a while, usually for a reason, I buy a case of beer and then drink as much of it as I can. I can't drink nearly as many as I used to though. And then there is one beer when out for dinner, and that doesn't happen too often. I have also learned not to bother with the low cal beer, you just need to drink twice as many and that just defeats the whole purpose!
Cheers! |
Corona light is my drink when i go out now i'm dieting.
I'll miss my pints of Guinness :( |
Ouch, I'd miss Guinness too if I were in Ireland. But at 6'4" you're gonna burn off weight so fast, you'll be back on the good stuff in no time.
|
Ooooooooooooooooooh. I do like some hard liquor but as a regular tipple there might be some issues with that.
I can sip on a beer or two all night. I have also been known in happy times to sip on a half bottle of whisky all night too, but I wouldn't want to do that all the time! |
Just an update, I have been drinking West Coast IPA all the way through my diet and it has not upset my efforts too much yet.
I guess beer just doesn't do to me what it does to others and I'm lucky! Yum! Salad and beer. |
I want an ice cold Beck's right now, or guinness. So gooood. I cut alcohol out completely, not even on cheat days. :(
|
My IPAs are over 200 calories a bottle and I can easily sink two of them a night. Tee hee! My liver must be confused on where to put the alcohol. Or just bust. To be honest, the bloat/gas makes me feel a lot less hungry in the evening, just when I am at my most vulnerable. It certainly takes "drinking on an empty stomach" to a new level!
|
Got a wedding to go to tomorrow and plan on getting fairly intoxicated (after all, it is a wedding). I am not worried about calories or anything. I mean how often do i get to go tout? (never is the answer) so eff it.
|
Enjoy! Use the diet versions of the mixers though. I used real coke at the last party I went to! *Facepalm*. Should have asked for diet.
Let us know what fun you got up to! |
OK, I think I have cracked how this works for me. Moderate drinking (2-3 bottles of beers) does not seem to have an impact on my weight loss.
But heavy drinking (3 pints of beer plus a car bomb) does. On a big night, I tend to lose weight the next day but then put it back on the day after where it can stay for a few days. So some beer good, but too much bad. |
I don't drink much, but about a month ago my office went out to Yard House for a happy hour one Friday. My plan was to not drink or just have one beer. But then one thing led to another and by 12:30 that evening I had three pints of beer and four shots of various concoctions. That night I did not have any dinner and only had a couple of thin slices of a raw tuna appetizer. as it turned out, the drinking did not have any effect on my weight. I'm guessing it was because I basically substituted the drinks for my dinner!

Fantastic Joe.
I am certainly on a beer diet. |
Just stocked up. :carrot:
Granted, it's not exactly Medifast. But it still gets the job done! http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/atta...eer-img070.jpg |
Feel free to invite me over anytime Ian.. i'll help you put away those brewskies.
|
It's an open invitation IrishLad next time you are in Washington DC!
Let me know. |
I love beer! I live in Oregon and we have a ton of microbreweries. I have gone cold Turkey for now and about 5 more weeks but will need to come up with a plan for when I am ready to start drinking again....haha I sound like I have a problem.
|
Thanks Slick! My advice when you get the nectar flowing again is just to watch what you eat when you drink. I try to avoid eating at all (now I sound like I have a problem). But the big deal for beer and weight for me in the past was not the beer but the junk that normally goes with that. Remove the junk, and I'm sitting sweet with my regular brew!
|
I miss beer. I hope to be able to have some by next football season.
|
Thanks Ian, I do notice once I have downed a couple it is really easy to want to eat anything and everything in site.
|
Oh man, football and beer...there really is no better combination. Go Ducks!
|
Hope you didn't eat!

What a stock up collection you have there, Ian!!
I was so in the mood for a Guinness on St. Patrick's Day but I was too afraid it would either make me sick or make me want another!! I kept trying to tell myself I could do "just one" but I didn't trust myself!! Yesterday was quite warm around here and sitting outside last night would have been perfect with a cold Coors light in a frosty mug. This year will be ice cold Crystal Light, not exactly the same!! But I also wouldn't be able to lounge around in my new body if I had kept up with the beers!! |
Thanks Elvis. So far my drinking is unrestricted. One, two, three beers. Doesn't matter. The only thing I do watch is not to eat when I drink (can be hard for most) and to avoid sugary mixers.
There is a possibility that this will not be sustainable as my weight gets lower and I will have to make the cut (which will be hard). But my current objective is to lose 100lbs without missing a drop of the golden, sweet nectar. |

I drank to the point of complete and total inebriation last night, and spent a few hours sweating and moshing. I was impressed to see the scale go down almost a pound this morning. I'm hoping it sticks :) Man I can't wait for the snow to melt so I can drink beers on my patio! |
LOL!!! I knew I was going to catch crap for that, you men are just like my husband!! But I don't care, it's what I like!! And I'm a cheap date!!
Joe, just have to tell you, I saw your pictures while I was lurking on another thread and you look FREAKING awesome!!! You were handsome before but now...hello hottie!! |
I find a fine line with the beer. If I get drunk to the point of dehydration then I get a big weight loss the next morning but some of it comes back the day after and then I sometimes stall a day before dropping again which I assume is just rehydration.
Now if I drink and don't go that far, no effect. At least with what I have seen. So two or three beers good. Four beers and shots, not so much. |
Joe, I would say I'm a huge fan. Oregon's spring game is Saturday.
Ian didn't drink so no worries haven't had a drink in over a month. |
Shucks Slick! You should pop round and we'll sink a few. I have four cases in the basement as part of my diet.
The hops help. I swear they do! |
If I was close to D.C. I would for sure. My goal was to take around 8 weeks off of drinking so I could get a good start to my life style change. After the school year is over I will celebrate with a couple.
|
You can't not enjoy beer if you're from Oregon. Craft brew is a way of life in these parts.
|
Lecomtes, I am glad you know what I am talking about. I just saw an article in the paper saying how us Oregonians get to enjoy around 150 micro breweries. I am holding on to my drinking though until I got go try some new beers at a good brew fest.
|
I like beer and whiskey...nothing better than a cold crisp Miller Lite and a Jamison neat on the side. Don't know why, but that combination is my happy place.
My body hates when I drink...it doesn't stop me, though. I truly enjoy the taste of whiskey, bourbon and a nice single malt scotch. I have to be very cognizant of my alcohol intake because of it. I will say, I have not been able to give up drinking for more than a couple of weeks at a time before going back and I've still managed to lose 117lbs so far. Find what works and work it, Ian! :) |
Will do SoMuchFattitude and well done on the great loss with alcohol! I like to drink beer daily, and so far 50+lbs down!
