Seven months on MediFast so far...

  • Today is seven months since I started Medifast. Wow! It went by fast! I'd been a little reluctant to use a meal replacement diet- I'm an RN, and I was afraid it would not be medically sound. The research I did on MF reassured me, though, so I decided to give it a try. Here's how I've done thus far:

    When I started:
    Weight: 252 lbs
    Size: 24w
    Bust: 48"
    Waist: 41"
    Hips: 50"
    Calf: 20"
    Upper Arm: 16"

    Today:

    Weight: 190 lbs (-62 lbs)
    Size: 16!!!
    Bust: 40" (-8")
    Waist:35.5" (-5.5")
    Hips: 42.5" (-7.5")
    Calf: 17.5" (-2.5")
    Upper Arms: 12.5" (-3.5")
    *****

So I'm down 62 lbs and 27 inches. I've also been able to successfully be weaned off high blood pressure as my BP is normal now. My GERD (Acid Reflux) has been gone completely since about three weeks into the plan. My personal favorite NSV is that when I walk now, my thighs no longer rub together and get all chafed.

In the past 7 months, I've "cheated" about once a month and gone out to dinner with a friend- burger and fries, steak or Indian food. I'd probably be down another 10 lbs if I hadn't done that, because going off plan *does* knock me out of ketosis and it takes me close to a week to get back there.

And it's not nearly as hard or depriving as I'd been afraid it would be. A lot of the bars are good (Chocolate mint is downright delicious!) and a couple of the shakes are good too. Just discovered the Parmesan puffs, OMG yum. I anticipate it will be a challenge to stay on plan during the holidays, but I'll just jump right back on. I actually *like* MediFast. I'd recommend it without a moment's hesitation for anyone wanting to lose weight. The only down side I've seen is I have lost a good amount of hair, but thankfully mine was very thick to begin with, so no one but me has noticed. (And that's not just MF- any rapid weight loss will do that to you.)

Sorry to toot my own horn here, but I just wanted to share my success story- which is still a work in progress, but one I know I will see through to the end. If you've just started MF or are thinking of starting it, feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
  • Congratulations! You have done great!
  • Nice job, xirene!

I'm amazed I've been able to stay on MF this long. I think the simplicity is a big part of it. Now to lose the last 25!
  • Thank you! I've been sorting through stuff as I get ready to move in 2 1/2 weeks and I gave away all of my 24W-20W clothes (except for the jeans I was wearing at my heaviest. Keeping them for a before/after pic!). No going back! And lots less to move, too. I still look at all the stuff and pray it will fit in the UHaul, LOL.
  • CONGRATULATIONS if I'm not too nosey what is the weekly cost ? There's a shop not far from me & I'm curious . I'm looking for alternatives to the plan I was on. If you want you can pm me Thanks

  • Hi spunkygal,

It's around $300 a month if you buy it online from Medifast. I've heard the centers are a lot more expensive, and it depends on how much you want to lose. If you think the in-person support and whatever else they offer will help you more, then check the center out. Be prepared for sticker shock, though.
  • $300 a month is just about right, yeah. I order the food online, as I don't live anywhere near a center- and my new apartment will be a good 1 1/2-2 hours from a center, so will just keep ordering online.

The shipping is very fast, my only complaint is not with MediFast but with UPS. They load the stuff onto their truck at 5 AM according to the UPS shipping tracker, but I must be their last stop, as I don't get the package until around 6 PM. Not a problem now, but in the summer all my chocolate mint bars were melted by then! Sticking them in the fridge helped
  • Thanks ladies I appreciate it ! IP was about $352 per mo I loved the way many of the products taste but.... my budget made me switch to alternatives. As long as I'm still losing i'ts OK with me.
  • Wow!
Thank you for the update! I am starting Medifast soon and I can't wait. I just joined and I am searching for encouraging stories like yours that give me hope that if I stick it out for 6-8 months that I can reach my goal and feel amazing!

    Congratulations!!
  • This is encouraging to me too. After reading various posts, I almost feel it will be necessary to follow the plan for life. I have only been on MF a couple of weeks but can see how easy it will be to fall into old habits.
  • Nice work!
