SERIOUSLY?! Week 2, Weight Stalled

Look, I'm a patient girl by nature. But I'm on Day 14 (my official Week 2 ending weigh in is tomorrow morning) and I have weighed exactly the same thing-- 241.8 lb-- for FIVE DAYS NOW. Five days of being a completely virtuous Medifaster. With the exception of a Diet Barq's or two a day, I have been completely On Plan: weighing and measuring EVERYTHING, even my greens, not overdoing the condiments, counting calories and carbs (just to be sure I'm doing it right) and staying within the guidelines.

I know the universe isn't fair, but considering the mental dedication it is taking to maintain a diet under 1,000 calories per day, losing only 1.2 lbs in my second week (when I have 100+ to lose) seems really unfair!

I'm not really looking for advice. I know I need to just keep on keepin' on. I just needed to scream about this somewhere. :)

Perhaps eating under 1,000 calories/day is stressing your body. I know for "stress" (albeit overexercising, undereating, etc.) will definitely stall weight loss. I'd try upping my calories to at least 1200.:)

[Sidenote: Your progress is really inspiring! You get those last two pounds girl! Get 'em!]

Thanks, I'm considering that. I am afraid its a bit early to start tinkering, you know?

I just want to point out that this is the Medifast forum, and Medifast is a low calorie program in which calories range from 800 to 1000 per day. The Medifast foods are medically formulated to avoid "starvation mode."

But the thing is, one has to follow the program as written. You do not have to count calories or carbs--you simply use the Medifast meals 5 times a day and have your lean & green meal.

You say this is what you're doing, MarsieD, so I would say, be patient. I noticed that you posted in another thread about exercise--you're not exercising, are you? Because that could be problematic if you're doing too much exercise. With Medifast, you do not have enough calories to exercise strenuously--not until your body is able to switch into fat-burning metabolism, and even then, exercise should be light to moderate. So, it is possible to create a stall at this calorie level by over exercising.

Please check on the Medifast Community threads--or post for the dietitian--and see what suggestions you get there.

I had this issue my second week too, twins!

If you had a more active week, even if it was just getting back to normal after taking life in general a little slower the starting week (my case), that can give you a temporary stall. Also, pms makes one cranky, bloated, and want to smash scales (again, my case :)). The third week I was back on track. If it's still persisting next week, I'd reevaluate.

Thanks dudes! Yes, patience is my problem. I've not had a very active week-- less active than normal, really: a couple dog walks, light housework. Today is the first day I've been back to the gym.

You know, godown, this past week I have been on my period, fighting off a chesty-cough cold, and had diarrhea. So maybe I'm just out of whack from all of that.

I'm on week three and the weight loss has slowed considerably. If I remember correctly, I lost 3.5 the first week and 3 the second. The third week I only lost 1.5 pounds (and, yes, part of me thinks it's because of TOM). While I would rather every week be the 3 pound loss, I'm still happy with the results. Next week I plan on incorporating a bit more exercise (currently just walking and golfing). I need to get back on the treadmill more regularly.

Is this common to have the problem MairsieD is having?

Alinnell, I think you are just averaging out. Over the long term, you will still average 2 pounds.

godown 05-30-2011 08:31 PM

Aww Mairsie! Sounds like you've had a miserable week :(

I think it just depends on the person, Costas. I literally can gain 5 pounds in a day because of dear ol' Aunt Flo.

2 pounds is still great for me!!!!

Hey guys! Everyone get in line to tell me to quit whining, because today I'm down a pound! For a total of 10.6 lbs in two weeks. Not too shabby. :)
