Started Medifast this morning

I started Medifast this morning.
I bought a 4 week variety pack and I was surprised at the amount of sweet stuff in there and I am so glad because i ADORE sweets.
So far i have had the apple and cinnamon oatmeal and the oatmeal raisin bar. I was surprised at how good the raisin bar was. The oat meal wasn't bad as long as I didn't look at it too closely.
This will be an interesting experiment.

:)

Good luck- I started Medifast in January and am very happy with it :)

If you do the VIP it gets cheaper over time and every 4 weeks you get a shipment.

It's definitely good to go to the medifast forums at mymedifast.com and read all the lists- I learned recently there are certain healthy snacks you can have daily (ie 1 tbsp pb, 2 dill pickle spears, etc) and one of my FAVORITE things to do is to cook my brownie and then put 1 tbsp pb on it and let it melt a bit- SOOOO good :)

Oh and a tip for the foods- if you add just a bit of water to things like the hot drinks/soups/etc, and then mix it up into a paste, THEN add the rest of your water, you will find you have no more issues with lumps in your drink :)

Soak soups for an hour at least as well so they aren't hard! (Chili needs at least 4 hours IMO).

Mindless Games 02-12-2011 11:41 PM

The peanut butter on the brownie is a really really good idea!
I am still figuring it all out... but tonight I made the scrambled eggs with some stir fried bok choy and fake meat kielbasa :)
You know it wasn't bad and I am actually full.

desilu0 02-14-2011 08:27 AM

The eggs are my favorite. I usually add a little cheese on top and take it out of the lean part of dinner. I think I like the eggs the most because they're not liquid and they're not sweet, so they're a nice change in pace.

beerab 02-14-2011 10:38 AM

If you buy the puffs and pretzels that helps with all the sweetnes- I eat a bag of puffs or pretzels a day- they are medifast meals- they aren't snacks. It also makes me feel like I'm eating like other people do :D

My favorite are the parmesan puffs.

Pamela1980 02-14-2011 11:43 AM

I just placed my order. And i must say I can't wait to get mine shipment. The wonderful lady that helped me said it will be to me in 1-2 days. I can't wait. I know it saound silly but I was jumping up and down like a kid. I wonder how it will be when it really does get here. lol

beerab 02-14-2011 12:04 PM

They usually send a tracking email :)

Mine takes quite a while but I live on the west coast and it ships from the east coast.

I was the SAME way- hubby was like babe it's just food and I was like NO it's not JUST food!

Good luck- remember the first few days are hardest so drink LOTS of water and also take some headache medicine if you feel one coming on.

Mindless Games 02-14-2011 12:10 PM

I was the same way :)
I am still excited about my shipment
I watch a lot of food network (food porn is what the hubby an I call it) and Chopped is one of my favorite shows. So far every meal has been an episode of Chopped :)
I have found a world of creative recipes for medifast stuff and most of it isn't that bad BUT avoid the blueberry oatmeal... OMG it tasted like 'Goody's' aspirin powder and vitamins mixed up with blue berry paste. I quite literally wiped my tongue after eating it.

Pamela1980 02-14-2011 03:46 PM

Yeah after I posted my comment on here i went back to proof read it and sent it anyway with words all mis-spelled. That just goes to show you how happy I am.

My husband is the same way. He thinks its nuts how crazy I am over this. But he says "what ever makes you happy"

I don't think i'm going to have a problem with the water thing because I work for a water company and thats all I drink anyway. My husband thought because I would drink Mt. Dew all the time that was the reason I had put on the weight. But I have been off the DEW for 2 months now drink nothing but water and only lost 5lbs.

I was really hoping that blueberry was going to be good. lol

Hey everyone.. I am new to this site.. and also new to Medifast.. sort of. I did it about 2 years ago, but only got through about 2.5 weeks. UGH.. all I could think of was food.. but this time is different. I have gone through alot of changes in my life since then, divorced after 15 years of marriage etc.. and it is time to do this for MEEEE! I started the MF 2/15/11 and to date I have lost 14 lbs. Go me! I am so excited. The first month of food was given to me by my best friend's mom who was doing it and stopped. So I didn't get to choose anything... but so far the only thing I haven't liked is the Cream of Broccoli Soup. UGH.. though I don't think I would care for that if it wasn't diet food! haha I am loving the pretzels.. Honey Mustard and Cinnamon. The Brownies are good.. and Choc. Pudding. The Chicken and Wild Rice Soup is good... so is the Beef Stew. The Chili wasn't too bad, I added a bit too much Chili Powder the first time around.. will have to try again. ;) But anyway, sorry, didn't mean to hi-jack your thread here, I just wanted to say hi, and let you know, you are NOT alone in your Medifast venture!! Feel free to get in touch anytime! Take care!

Day 3

Hi Everyone!!!!!!! I am on Day 3 and I feel really good. I too love the bars, oatmeal is yucky, love the eggs and bars. Favorite part of the day is looking forward to my lean and green meal!!!
I can relate to feeling excited and now I am in control of my eating. I love waking up...day 4 tomorrow...to know that i completed another day. One day at a time....every morning I get excited thinking, i did well yesterday so I can do it again today.
Looking forward to making friends.....wishing you all a great night:)

CafeAmericain 03-02-2011 08:39 PM

Hi! This is my second day on MF. So far, the chicken and wild rice soup has been my favorite meal. (I read somewhere on the board that you should "soak" it first by adding water and letting it sit for an hour or so before you eat it. That made a big difference.) Least favorite has been the banana creme shake, although Dutch chocolate was pretty bad, too. I must be doing something wrong. I'll keep tweaking.

I'm looking forward to hearing how everyone else is doing!

Good luck to us all!! :-)

pickles27 03-02-2011 09:47 PM

Have you tried the chocolate shake with water and then add a few icecubes? It is really good.......

CafeAmericain 03-03-2011 11:38 AM

I tried making another one with only 4 oz of water, and that helped. :-)

Total Newbie

Hello everyone,

I am a newbie to the world of dieting. Starting Medifast 5-1 plan today. Hoping to lose 60 pounds.

Hoping that the medifast plan jumpstarts my weight loss.

Cheers.

Mindless Games 03-05-2011 11:01 AM

I love it so far.
It has changed the way I shop and cook :) for the better of course.
I have also become an avid nutrition info label reader.
One of the things I have been doing is adding a dash or 2 or Torani 0 cal 0 sugar syrups to the shakes, and I found http://www.medifastmedia.com/shared/...mendations.pdf this on medifast's site.
It helps staying on the plan easier when you can play with it a little

Mindless Games 03-05-2011 11:04 AM

Oh yeah... something else I have figured out on my medifast adventure ...is invest in a "Magic Bullet" or a blender.

Valerieincalifornia 03-06-2011 06:11 PM

When I get up in the morning, I put my soup in a bowl with 1/4 cup hot water (from the Insta-hot dispenser on my sink), stir well, then add the other 1/2 cup of cold water, stir again, cover and refrigerate. I usually add a teaspoon of concentrated boullion too. By the time lunch rolls around, everything is rehydrated and so much better.

I do the same with the eggs and oatmeal. The longer things soak, the better they are.

I read a recipe to use your shakes as a cake.
Mix any shake powder with 1/2 tsp. baking powder, 1 T Eggbeaters, 1 oz. water and a dash of any extracts that you like. Mix well and microwave in a small bowl for 1 minute. This makes a nice change from shakes!

I started my plan today. I ordered online and got the basic instructions in the folder with the DVD. The one thing I can't find info on and have seen a lot about on the boards is references to the snacks. Where on the Medifast site does it discuss them and how many you get? My info just mentioned the 5-1 plan and the healthy fats with the leaner meats.

I plan to try this for a couple of weeks, and then switch to a center if I think it is working for me. There is a center within half an hour's drive of here.

CafeAmericain 03-14-2011 03:10 PM

TracyC, on the MyMedifast site, go to the Success Tools tab, then to Eat Right. All the lists are there including Optional Snacks. You can have one snack per day with the caveat that it may slow weight loss.

• 3 celery stalks
• 1 fruit-flavored sugar-free PopsicleŽ
• ˝ cup of sugar-free gelatin dessert, such as Jell-OŽ
• Up to 3 pieces of sugar-free gum or mints
• 2 dill pickle spears
• 1 packet of Medifast Soy Crisps
• 1 packet of Medifast Crackers
• 1 Tbsp peanut butter*
• ˝ oz of nuts: almonds (10 whole), walnuts
(7 halves), or pistachios (20 kernels)*
*Nuts are a source of healthy fat and additional calories.

TracyC 03-15-2011 09:20 PM

Thanks, Michelle. I am still getting used to the site. Having a (small) handful of nuts is very appealing to me. I will admit that I put a 1/2 tablespoon of pecans in my pudding, and it's nice to know I wasn't really cheating!

I am enjoying the food, except for the oatmeal, which tastes like what I imagine wallpaper paste might taste like.

The tomato soup is good---I add a bit of spices and a spoonful each of chopped beef (deducted from my dinner portion) and some minced red pepper. My skinny daughter said my soup looked and smelled good and was disappointed that she couldn't share my expensive "diet" food.

This hasn't been nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I ordered another week of food. I got it from ebay this time, because the shipping is so high on the Medifast site. If I want to stick with this and buy a whole month's supply, I might go back to the site. I am trying the beef stew, chocolate chip pancakes and caramel crunch bars, in addition to things I've already had this week. I did order another box of the tomato soup. I am going to have two servings of soup a day, because it is more satisfying than the sweet stuff.

CafeAmericain 03-16-2011 01:01 PM

Wow, Tracy! The improvements you made to the tomato soup sound wonderful! I tried it for the first time this morning, but without any spices or changes. It wasn't bad, but I think next time I'll give it a little pinch of Italian blend seasoning and see how that works out. ;-)

I agree that the soups make a nice, satisfying change from all the sweet stuff. The Chicken Noodle, Chicken with Rice, and Maryland Crab soups are all pretty tasty, too. Although, now that the warm weather is here, I may have to put the soups in the back of the pantry for a while.

How is your first week going? Have you noticed a sharp decrease in your cravings for junk food since you've been using the MF meals?

TracyC 03-17-2011 01:46 AM

Michelle, I feel better from not ever being overstuffed on this plan. I do have the feeling I would benefit from a consultation at the center---we have one relatively close by---but I am a bit apprehensive about the cost of that.

I think my cravings for junk food are down, but I still miss having a little bit of rice or potatoes with dinner. I am hoping my second week's order will get here Friday so I can start week two on Saturday. We have a family event on Saturday, but I am going to try to stick with veggies w/dip or salad, and some sort of meat. As long as I stay away from the potato chips, I should be all right.

Valerieincalifornia 03-17-2011 09:15 AM

I've found (after 4 weeks now) that my L&G dinner has gotten smaller. I'm much more satisfied with less, which is an important lesson to take away when I'm off this food someday.

Mindless Games 03-23-2011 12:23 PM

So after nearly 6 weeks I am down 16 pounds.

So much YAY

Way to go! Keep it up and keep posting so we can cheer you on!

marci65 03-24-2011 05:29 PM

I started the plan today.

Had headaches at points during the day and took ibuprofen in the afternoon. I have been hungry, but not as bad as I thought it would be.

Day started with RTD chocolate shake. Not the best tasting stuff but I know I won't want to hassle with mixing or blenders at that time.

S'mores bar was great. Caramel Crunch notsomuch for me. Loved the Parmesan cheese puffs!

I didn't know that the soups/chili needed extra time. I will have to start the soak when I get home from work since I may eat those as my evening snack some nights.

What is a magic bullet? And is it dishwasher-able?

Mindless Games 03-24-2011 11:15 PM

The Magic Bullet is a small blender/food processor.(sounds like a marital aid though ;) ) It is dishwasher safe.
Everything that tastes bad to you now...try again in a week.

JollyGreenSteen19 04-29-2011 02:38 PM

I am getting my medifast sometime today. Super excited and starting tomorrow. I know from other meal replacement plans sort of what tends to be gross... it's not fair to judge them for the sins of others, but in general, I find that powdered soups and eggs just aren't good. I stuck to shakes, bars, pudding, soft serve, pancakes because I know I can stick with those unless they are truly dreadful. If eating anything on the plan becomes too much of a chore or something I dread, the plan always fails for me.

And this coming from someone who downs some really disgusting vegetable smoothies a few times a day, I can handle some things, but powdered eggs? Noooo.
