is Medifast really a good choice

I have to do something.
I am fat ,gross and turkey necked. I have no will power left.

I have don't evey diet on the planet.
I know its all exercise and portion control.
Nutasystem tastes icky.Is medifast like Nutrasystem?
Please help me. Or SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT TO DO!:D

Operator265 05-04-2009 12:21 AM

I don't tell anyone else what to do. Sorry. But, I will advise that if you can't handle icky food, this one is not for you. Some of the "food" is passable, but, you can tell a long term MFer by their ability to flavor it up. Spices and syrups are a necessity.

Pamela 05-04-2009 12:45 AM

My suggestion: EAT REAL, WHOLE FOODS! Cut out the junk and get your butt off the couch! We have all had to do just freakin' do it, and do it and do it, everyday. Now it is your turn. Show some spine woman! or man. ;)

cartp 05-04-2009 07:04 AM

HaHa thanks !
I do need to get some backbone,I am just so tired of trying.
I think I just need a very strict plan or a magic pill.

babes315 05-04-2009 08:16 PM

What would you say your major dieting obstacles are? If you do not want to not have to think about food choices and need a lot of structure, then Medifast might be a good fit. It is not gourmet food by any stretch, but you will get results fast. It is not like NutriSystem, Medifast is more like a high protein, low-carb liquid diet (although you do get one "lean and green" meal per day and they do have bars that you can have instead of shakes). If you like the idea of NutriSystem but want something that will taste better, you can also look into Jenny Craig. Their frozen items are really good, and you also get structure and accountability with them.

I have been on Medifast for 3 months and am down 34 pounds. I love this program and love just about every product. My favorites are the chicken and wild rice soup, tomato soup, chicken noodle soup and the dark chocolate shakes. Also their soy crisps rock. Hands down, this program is the best as far as liquid diets go. I read labels and have read all the other cometitors nutritional contents. I am not bashing other liquid diets, just saying that Medifast has been around 29 years, that itself speaks volumes. I did this program 6 years ago and lost 92 pounds in 6 months. I regained most of it not because Medifast is a failure, but because I failed to change my lifestyle. I went back into my old eating habits. Whatever program you are on, if you dont make changes to your lifestyle, you will struggle keeping the weight off. I have 40 more pounds to lose. Some days I do the 5 and 1 program and other days I do all Medifast products. If I am really hungry, I add another Medifast product into the day. I have added up to 3 extra products some days. I also work out every other day, one hour on the tredmill. I hate it but its necessary. I also love the bars. I dont have to add extra flavoring to my shakes as I drink only the dark chocolate and it is so utterly fantastic, it nearly brings me to tears! lol I dont care for the Maryland Crab soup though. I am so proud to say I am a Medifaster. Nothing could cause me to deviate away from this wonderful program. I am one happy camper. :-)

Suzie 06-06-2009 04:22 AM

Sunny, you and I share similiar stats and have both been on program 3 months. I take it you have done Medifast before and you didnt make the necessary lifestyle changes necessary to keep it off? That was my case. I have done every program in the book and always just went back to my old ways. :-( Not proud but it is what it is. What are your favorite products, Sunny? Have you tried the dark chocolate shakes? OMG, they are so good. At first I didnt like them but after 3 or 4, I fell head over heels in love!

Suzie 06-07-2009 02:33 AM

Hey Sunny....if you are twice my age, then you are 106? I look younger than I am. I am 53!

I understand what you are saying about incorporating some Wonderslim products into your routine. I just ordered some Wonderslim shakes a few days ago and plan to have one of them a day. I just got curious and wanted to see what they were like. I ordered the chocolate and chocolate mint shakes. But like I said, I will only have one Wonderslim per day because I do believe Medifast gives you a little more nutritional value than the other products to. First time around, I used the shaker jars for my shakes, but this time, I bought a Medifast healthmate blender and they totally change the texture and taste of the shakes. They are frothy and creamy and I never thought a blender could make such a difference. I like the puddings but dont find them filling, so I dont order them. I love the crackers too and use them in my soup. I have to have a soup every day. I adore the RTD's and use them on my breaks at work. I dont want to tote a blender to and from work! Have you tried the soy crisps? They are dangerous and I have to hide them from myself! LOL It sounds like you have a great plan going on Sunny. Do you have a goal date set for when you want to be at 140? I dont. I will get there when I get there. Goals are nice but this time around, I have cut myself some slack and the scale along with other things will tell me when I have arrived there. Do you exercise? I do one hour every other day on the tredmill. Unfortunatly, I dont really like it but I know to keep the weight off for life, I will have to make exercise a part of my life til they bury me. lol

Great to talk to you Sunny!!! Feel free to private message me any time if you want!!

Hi, I am new to this site and am thinking about trying Medifast. I am on Weight Watchers (online plan) right now but I am not able to make it work for me. I gained about 90 pounds since my pregnancy with my son (he will be 1 tomorrow) and just can't stand it anymore. Thanks for your posts, reading about other's experiences helps :)

Hello, well if Weight Watchers isnt working and you need something with quicker results, then maybe Medifast is for you. There is a ton of info on this website about it and other programs too. Medifast is drastic but dont worry, it is completely safe. Before I tried it 6 years ago, I took some of the products I ordered to 4 different area doctors. All studied the boxes I gave them and assured me it was 100% fine. Even though the company claims it is, I had to get those medical opinions too. If you choose Medifast, those 90 pounds wont be with you for long, trust me. First time around, I lost 92 pounds in 6 months. Why am I on it again are you thinking? Well, as with any program, you have to change your attitude and your lifestyle forever or you will gain it all back plus some. Good luck to you in making a decision and if you choose Medifast, you will see just how fast the program works. One piece of advise for you: purchase the Medifast Healthmate Blender and blend your shakes that way. It totally makes a HUGE difference and I will never go back to the shaker jar method again! Let us know what you decide!

arleneok 06-08-2009 10:27 PM

I ordered a 2 week supply from Medifast today from their site. I probably should have gone with the month but it is really expensive and I want to get started and see how I do. Also, I tried to bid on a month supply on e-bay and got outbid at the last minute :(
oh well, I am excited to start and have a very strong feeling that my next order will be a full one.

I have ordered some Medifast shakes off of ebay too. But I mostly buy from my health coach advisor because she gives me discounts. I hope you like the program. Have you considered using a blender for your shakes? I highly recommend it. Also the dark chocolate shakes are fantastic! This is a strict plan, the first week or two was rough for me and some days I thought I would lose my mind. But at the two week mark, you are so elated because the scale is down, you quickly learn to deal with any hunger discomforts you may be feeling. Its been 3 months for me and I still get hungry in between meals. But stay the course and you will be jumping for joy. Trust me on this one!

arleneok 06-09-2009 04:23 PM

thanks for your supportive words! can I use a regular blender? or do I need to get the one off their site?

Operator265 06-09-2009 06:26 PM

I use my magic Bullit. Does the trick just fine.

Well I have a regular blender and then I have the Healthmate Blender from Medifast. I tried both and found my regular blender to be inadequate. So I ditched it and use just the Medifast blender. But see how yours does and then decide.

I have be up and down for many years and only one thing has consistently worked for me - calorie counting. But the first thing you have to do is find out how many calories per day YOU need. First, go to http://www.ahealthyme.com/topic/calneed and calculate a rough estimate of your caloric requirements. Next, get a digital food scale and keep it on your kitchen counter. Weight everything that goes into your mouth (only takes a second to do). Last, set up an account at Fit Day http://www.fitday.com/ and keep a food journal. Fit Day is free and will also let you track your exercise and discover pretty close to what your caloric needs are. To lose weight, you must take in fewer calories than you need. So stop digging your grave with your mouth, eat fewer calories and get off the couch. There isn't a magic solution to our problem.

Oh I am up off the coach plenty, thankyou. I work out every other day for at least an hour. I'd say that is adequate or even more than adequate while being on a low cal liquid diet, wouldnt you? If a person chooses not to work out then they are going to regain every pound they lost or else not eat very much. I've been around a looooong time now, I dont need to look up how many calories to consume and I dont even need a food scale. Been there and done that and have learned how to measure without a food scale.

arleneok 06-11-2009 10:13 AM

I got my Medifast package yesterday in the mail and started this morning!
I made the decision to eat some of the stuff that I normally would not like first that way I would not be stuck with it at the end. So I ate the peach oatmeal this morning and surprisingly liked it! maybe it tastes better to me because I know it is part of a plan to help me get thinner and healthier? hmm... anyway I am excited :)

Suzie 06-11-2009 07:05 PM

Me thinks I am kooky because most people like the oatmeals but I have no use for them. lol However, we are all different and it would be a boring world if we were all alike and Medifast would run out of oatmeal if we all liked it! I also want to add that the chicken noodle soup is out of this world. It is thick and creamy and dang, I only have 3 packs left! I also order ala cart...would never do it any other way. It's trial and error on what you like and if I dont like something, I send it back and get a replacement. Medifast has been really good about this with me.

Operator265 06-11-2009 07:13 PM

I can't stand the oatmeal, aka Cream of Concrete. :barf: I always made muffins out of it. They're pretty good. But, you can only do that with MF, the WS ones don't come out the same.

Suzie 06-11-2009 07:19 PM

The muffins sound good but I dont have any cupcake liners and I am too lazy to go to the store, otherwise I would make muffins. Cream of concrete is a good one! lol

Operator265 06-11-2009 08:35 PM

I didn't use liners just cooking spray. I did use mini muffin pans, however, and piled them up. They don't rise and the smaller cups made them cook a little better. It seemed a bit more solid and filling than as oatmeal. Also, I had 4 breakfasts ready to go when they were done.

arleneok 06-11-2009 09:48 PM

well, I am at the end of my first day and over all it's been okay. My stomach was a little upset though..is that something any of you guys have gone through in the beginning?

Operator265 06-11-2009 11:04 PM

A little bit. But worse was I had some major noxious gas that would knocked out an angry Rhino in full charge.:tired:

Haha oh no! I am going to assume this goes away after a awhile?
I am pretty excited, I made it to my 2nd day. Last night I :)could not sleep and was starving so I went down to find a dill pickle spear to eat and found an outdated jar in the way back of the fridge. So I threw it away and will go buy a new jar today. I just drank a LOT of water, that actually helped.
I love this site and forum, once again, thanks to al of you for your support and communication- it really helps!

Operator265 06-12-2009 12:13 PM

Definitely drink at least the amount of water they say and any more you can get in since the ketosis could lead to kidney problems if not.

Yes, the gas did go away before too long.

arleneok 06-14-2009 11:15 AM

Hi everyone! I am on my 4th day of Medifast and feel a LOT better- just thought I would check in!

Operator265 06-14-2009 11:37 AM

Good job Arlen. Keep it up. You should have gotten past the hard part now. It's all down hill and down scale from here.

Operator265 06-14-2009 11:39 AM

Oh yeah, as far as the "other" issue goes.....Beano became my best friend. I shoulda bought stock in the company.

For about the first month, I feel ornary and have gas! LOL

Even though the weight comes off, that first month is a beast. You just hve to keep plugging away, dont miss your meals and if you cannot stand one more minute, have another shake or soup. Often times I add an extra shake to my day. I dont think anything of it. So some days I do the 6 and 1 and other days the 5 and 1. And when I am doing the full fast, I always have 6 to 7 products. I kind of tweak the program to work for my hunger needs and that varies each day.

Suzie 06-15-2009 01:20 AM

Good for you! When do you weigh in? I do it weekly. Dont do it any more than that because you will be disheartened if the scale goes up. All that is is fluid but you dont need to know if you are up. Our body fluctuates each day. The tried and true way to know if you have lost is to give it a week in between or...even more. Do not weigh every day. Been there done that and went insane!

I wish I remembered this advice last night! I was great all day long until right before bedtime and all of a sudden I was STARVING. If I had not made a 100% commitment to myself with this program I would a completely gone off. but what I did was eat another lean and green. I should have had another shake and will learn from my timing to really spread out my meals so this doesn't happen again. I think also, I chopped up some mushrooms in my salad earlier in the day and they just tasted gross to me so my original lean and green did not fill me up because I could not finish it.

I am really wanting to start this!! I am a bit nervous about this, I am hoping to be able to do this. I really need to, I weight just under 300, and I really want to not get to that...I am only twenty, and I can't keep up like this, I want this because it will give me a jump to get to about 160 and then I am going to finish up with weight watchers, so I am thinking about a year or so to get to where I need to be. I am worried about the MF but I think I could do this. I really would like to hear from you all, for some tips and any good thoughts...Thank you very much...

Hi there! well, I have only been on Medifast for 6 days but I have already lost a little over 10 lbs.
I will be honest with you, it was difficult the first few days, but it is easier every day now. Also once you find a few good and filling lean and greens that should make it easier (like yesterday I had an eggbeaters omlette and spinach) I know that I don't have a lot of experience yet to really say much about this program but I will say from personal experience that I have always felt like I had the worst will power EVER and I did not honestly believe I could ever really make a positive change for my weight.
However with Medifast, I read alot of reviews and got involved in talking to people in the Medi community and made a commitment to myself. I actually have hope and believe that I can really do this! I KNOW if I can do it, you can too. Medifast may or may not be the right plan for you, but it may be worth a try. Keep us posted :):carrot:

Operator265 06-16-2009 11:43 AM

I did well on this program. It really helped me drop the weight and encouraged me. I don't know if I could have made changes with going very slowly. It also made it easier since my job at the time made it difficult to cook at home regularly. I was able to lose weight while researching my plan for life.

I'm about to go back on it again. I went in 20-25 lb spurts. I wanted to give my muscles and skin some time to adjust. Good thing I still have about 30 to go since I'm getting my molars all pulled tomorrow in preparation for dentures. It's best to pull them then give my jaw time to heal before being fitted. Now, I will be able to maintain good nutrition without having to worry about damaging the stitches. And, I'll be shooting for my goal weight.

The biggest thing for me was that this program gave me breathing room and the chance to study up and prepare for a healthy lifestyle. You simply cannot go back to your old ways of eating. That's how we got here in the first place. That's true with any weight loss plan. You must be prepared to change how you eat. This program will help you get used to eating smaller but more often during the day. The L&G portion will help you learn how to prepare healthy meals and what a proper portion looks and feels like. I found it much easier to learn how to prepare one meal a day rather than 3-5 all at once.

Good luck on your journey, whatever you decide.

Suzie 08-08-2009 11:03 PM

My personal opinion is Medifast has the most nutrients and is healthiest in the line of low calorie liquid diets go. I went to 6 different doctors just to make sure, 4 MD's and 2 dieticians. All gave it a happy thumbs up. I brought in several of the products to show them and they scrutinized every thing and determined I was getting everything I needed.

I am getting towards the end now, only a pinch over 20 pounds left and I cannot imagine life without Medifast. I will give up all the junk I ate before and eat only healthy foods and keep my cupboards stocked with Medifast for supplimentation. I actually love the products, well most of them!

Best program out there if you ask me!

As long as it isn't like Protein gas, then I wouldn't worry. That protein gas will make you spit up your last week's meals. Trust me I know... My two sons take a lot of supplements because they are bodybuilders looking to go pro. They actually have contest trying to gross each other out... I am thinking about getting an extra room built specifically for them to go and STAY in while they air out. :(:(
