Flax Seed?

I have been considering starting MF next month so I have been reading some of your posts. I noticed you talking about adding Flax Seed to some of the food. What is Flax seed and what is the purpose of adding it?

Djay--

Flax seed is a plant derived form of omega 3 fatty acids which help lower cholesterol. It also contains antioxidents and fiber. I just signed up for Medifast and am waiting on my first shipment, so I don't know what the flax seed will do to the shakes, but if you do decide to do this and use fla, make sure you grind them up otherwise it is undigestable and you won't get any of the benefits.

Hope this helps

Nikki

I've just started using it in my food. Only add a little and you won't even notice, if you do it just gives abit of a nutty taste. Also, only grind what you need for 1-2 days, or the oils will dissipate.

I love flax seed! Maybe add it to the oatmeal?

Where do I get flax seed and how do I count it, condiment, fat, supplement?

Thanks, Dan-O

You can get flax seed at a grocery store or Health Food store. I don't count it as anything. Go to http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/n...roducts/3163/2 to check out the nutritional data. I mean, at 1 g. of fat., 1 g protein and 1 g. of fiber per tsp. it's just not busting the nutritional budget IMO. The "sugar" content is so low that you have to get up to 1 cup to finally register 3 g. And, I feel the benefits far outweigh the consequences. Also, I can get away with a little variance since on my day shifts I'm a Blaster and get between 15 and 20,000 steps/day in.

I do about 3 tsp. a day 1 tsp at a time in different things. On MF I put 1 tsp. in my shakes and 1 on my salad. Also, you shouldn't count the fiber as a carb against your diet since fiber isn't digested. It is a carb but your body doesn't process it, it just gives other toxins and waste products a piggyback to ride out of you system. That's why it is so good for keeping your system "moving" so to say.;)
