I'm having a bit of a tough time. My order went to the wrong address and I've been out of supplements for two days now. I have placed another order, and hope to have it within a week, but in the meantime I need a new plan.

I know somewhere on this forum someone mentioned cobbling together something using products from local stores, so I'm off to find out as much as I can about that. Thanks for being so inspiring, ladies! And thanks, too, for posting in the "What's for Lean and Green" thread. I love the thought of a bank of ideas for days when it's hard to think!:p

I'd suggest going to the grocery store (or calling a few first to see if they have them) and getting EAS AdvantEDGE Carb control ready to drink shakes. They come in 4 packs. The Kroger stores here carry them. They also have bars as well. Here is a link to what the cans look like:

Honestly, the chocolate ones are the only ones that I can stomach. But that will keep you in the low carb/fat/calorie mode. Perhaps you could do 4 shakes, 1 bar, and a lean and green meal with the EAS until your MF is delivered.

Just curious, but are the EAS comparable to MF regarding vitamins?

I do not believe that he EAS are comparable in nutrition (like vitamins and minerals) to MF. They aren't necessarily designed as meal replacements.

However, if you supplement them with a vitamin or heck, if you're only using them for a couple of days, it shouldn't be that important. I don't think that I would use the EAS as meal replacements long term.

I found some info. on headaches on the medifast website.
This is what the registered dietitian said when asked about headaches. I hope it's OK to post this. If not, I will delete it. I thought it might be helpful.

"Yes, slight headaches are quite common the first few days of starting the 5&1meal plan until your body adjusts to the lower calorie and carbohydrate intake. It typically takes 3-5 days for the body to be in the fat-burning state and until then you may experience slight headaches, slight dizziness and lower than usual energy. This is the period of time that your body is switching it’s metabolic pathways from burning carbohydrate as its primary fuel source to fat (stored fat).

You may take an over-the-counter medication to help you with managing the headaches. Also, if you experience dizziness; make sure you are drinking a lot of water (a minimum of 64 ounces per day) and drink some bouillon/broth in between your meals as the increased sodium intake may help."

I was feeling really bad yesterday with my head throbbing but I felt much better today.

I teach fourth grade. I bet a lot of us are teachers. When I signed up for myMedifast and SuccessInMotion and they asked about my activity level, I put lightly active because I do teach. When I last did WW, I got two extra points a day for being a teacher - somebody must know how active we are! :)

I also found a link for netrition, where you can buy Walden Farms dressings and syrups and stuff... http://www26.netrition.com/cgi/prices.cgi?manu_id=394

No matter how many bottles you buy, UPS Ground shipping is $4.95. I didn't even have to pay tax. Even if I could find the dressings here (which I can't), it'd be cheaper to order online.

I start tomorrow. Today's my last day as a fat person...:)

Wow, was I surprised to find all this Medifast stuff over here! Finally read the December thread & still reading this one so I thought I would just jump in & say Hi. :) I notice a few familiar names (Hi Maya!) from the MF boards.

I've been on & off MF since Oct 2006, lost a bunch of weight & am thinking what I'm going to do diet-wise soon. Still have a ton of product left so I'm using that up by going back to the 5&1 plan until I reach goal & then I'll see if I want to lose more weight.

OK...back to the discussion...sorry to interrupt but I wanted to say hello! :D

Hi, All:

Aviation-gods willing, I'll be in Houston tonight. I've got my mini muffins ready for my day of travel. :hungry:

I am, of course, looking forward to seeing my scale and my friends, but not returning to work... :kickcan:

I am a teacher of sorts, as well--community college professor. And not looking forward to the coming week of in-service. :blah:

I found the netrition site as well, and at this very moment there is (supposedly) a box with Walden farms Cole Slaw dressing, single servings of Thousand Island and a couple different types of pasta sauce. I'll give you all a review as soon as I have checked it all out.

We ARE worth it! Keep going!!! :woohoo:

Carol

I home educate my kids. One has completed and the other is in 8th grade.

Today I jumped on the scale and I've hit 29 pounds! I can't believe it! Had I known years ago what I know now(MF), I would have done this long ago. I can really see myself thin again whereas before MF it seemed so unattainable. What a great way to start off another week! I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!

glucomannan

This is long, but I've cut and pasted the info for anyone interested. I've heard a lot of buzz about glucomannan lately and went out and bought a bottle (capsules) at Vitamin World for about $13. It really does help take the edge off between meals. This is from the drugdigest.org site.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Glucomannan is the Western name for vegetable fibers derived from an Asian plant family known as konjac. Glucomannan does not dissolve in water, but forms a thick, gooey gel when exposed to fluids. The body does not digest glucomannan, so the resulting large soft mass moves through the intestines and may trigger intestinal muscle contractions. Therefore, glucomannan is thought to be an effective bulk-type laxative, even though it may take up to 12 hours to be effective.

Glucomannan has also been studied for treating obesity, diabetes, and high cholesterol. Studies in both adults and children with severe obesity showed varying degrees of weight loss associated either with taking supplemental glucomannan or with replacing some of the usual diet with foods made from glucomannan (konjac) flour--the dried and ground tuber (underground stem) of the plant. Generally, glucomannan is believed to discourage overeating because it creates a feeling of fullness because the fiber in it swells. Because stomach contents may stay in the stomach longer, the individual does not feel hungry as often. However, in most of the research studying glucomannan for weight loss, study participants also drank large amounts of water and followed a reduced-calorie diet.

Possibly due to the same delay in stomach emptying, glucomannan may improve blood sugar levels in individuals with diabetes. Because the absorption of carbohydrates from foods is slower when glucomannan is taken, blood sugar levels may not rise as high or as fast as usual. Some preliminary results from animal studies also suggest that glucomannan may increase the sensitivity of body tissues to the insulin that is produced or taken. In several studies, taking glucomannan has also appeared to lower blood levels of total cholesterol, low-density lipoproteins (LDL, or "bad" cholesterol), and triglycerides. Although more research on this possible use of glucomannan is needed, glucomannan may increase the elimination of cholesterol and its components from the body. It may also keep bile acids from being reabsorbed in the intestines, further reducing cholesterol levels in the blood, because the body uses cholesterol to produce more bile."

Hmmm - Looks like it was tested in Taiwan rather than North America. I'd be careful.

I certainly don't feel I need a laxative on this plan. Fiber seems to be above 20 most days. I come from a long line of people with bowel cancer so am very fiber conscious.

You might want to post this in "Does It Work?" to see if any other Forum Chickies have tried it.

I teach grade 5! And man, a I sorry that I didn't do much marking over the last couple weeks before Christmas! :dizzy:

One of my Medifast challenges is that my colleagues can be pretty judgmental about diets. I know they mean well, but if they ever found out I was doing "meal replacements" they would be all over me. We have a very fit, outdoorsy-athletic culture at our school, which I know is good role modeling for the kids, just hard for me to keep up with. And probably so for some of the kids, too...I must remember to be on the lookout for this so I can be supportive.

I'm still waiting on a lost shipment, but have enough stuff from other programs to be back on track in the a.m.

Meanwhile, I lost five pounds last week! So I only need to do that 19 more times...right now, it totally feels doable! :broc:

Best wishes for a great day everyone! :D
