The Wagon - August 29
WELCOME ABOARD!!!
Hello everyone! Please go to Support #7 thread to get the "skinny" on how this WAGON thread came to be! Let me begin by saying I am glad you clicked on to this thread and hope you decide to post here for the much needed support we all can give and receive. Just to update on myself a bit........(and hope YOU do the same)....I am a 43 year old soon to be "empty nester" as my baby goes off to college in a few days. (Our oldest is a senior in college so it is gonna get mighty quiet around here!) Fortunately I am married to the best guy in the world......so it should become a time for "us" after all these years! (I am still gonna cry though!) I work full time as an administrative assistant and enjoy spending time with family and friends, camping, trivia games, biographies and euchre. I have "battled the buldge" for 1/2 my life and only started WINNING when I went on the Atkins plan this June. (It is a low carb way of eatting.) I have taken off 27 pounds so far and would like to say good-bye to another 80. My goal is a size 14 jeans. (Anything less will be a bonus.) The support I have received on this website....especially on the low carb lifestyles and support thread have been a big part of my success. I have shared my dreams on the 100 club website dream thread...which is EXCELLENT....and I hope those dreams...and all of YOUR dreams come true. (They can..if we stick together.) I took the name 25_Hopeful because hubby and I are going on a cruise for our 25th wedding anniversary in September 2003 and I want to be MY BEST for it! Obviously....I am "HOPEFUL." My signature reads "SUCCESS IS UP TO ME." I know those words are true. But, we can all have much more success if we support eachother. We all know and understand what it is like to be in a body that "does not belong to US." I hate wearing this FAT SUIT I am stuck in right now! I want it OFF! It IS coming off bit, by bit, and I share that with YOU. (I weigh in on Fridays and post my progress each time.) Please ride the wagon with me! Destination: GOAL! |
Good Morning, Wagon Riders!
I like the name. Just locked the Support thread with a message to avoid confusion. I also discovered that I can't rename a thread unless I delete it and then copy it back. That's too much effort first thing in the a.m. When you start up the Wagon tomorrow, perhaps the starter could put The Wagon - Thursday , Aug 30.
Have a good Hump day. |
Well, I am glad all of the confusion is over...
Although I must admit I am still a bit confused. I don't care about changing the name of the thread, no sweat of my back... but what does it matter? I thought we were doing fine the way it was. If they want to combine the 2 threads, that's fine with me too. The point is we are allowed to post on whatever thread we feel comfortable with, and whatever thread we mesh with the best. And I thought we were allowed to start our own thread if we wanted. For example... if I wanted to connect with all of those just doing Atkins, I thought I would be allowed to start my own thread. Am I wrong? That is how the rest of the 3FC site is. Honestly, I hate bickering and I was really considering just leaving this site and going to www.atkinsfriends.com (www.lowcarbfriends.com). I hope it is over now, but now I feel weird about starting my own thread. Hmmmmm.
Anyhow... I have been doing good. Not having cravings, and haven't cheated, so I feel good. A neighbor brought over some fresh home-baked banana muffins. She just moved in a month or so ago, and she doesn't know I am doing Atkins, so I didn't want to hurt her feelings. My kids loved them though, and all I can say about them is that they smell delicious. Too bad I will never know what they taste like. :( How is everyone else doing? Wake up, and make some decaf coffee. :) Okay... a question/observation... In the Atkins book, it states that all of these are allowed in the Induction phase.... all meats, eggs, cheese, nuts, cream, and spices. I cook almost all of my chicken with cream, and lots of paprika and garlic. Is this bad? Cream IS allowed... but it's carbs can add up. I find myself cutting out my veggies just incase my cream carbs have added up to high. Even teriyaki and Worsteshire (sp?) sauce has carbs. And when you are cooking with it, you use way more than "serving size" of 1 Tbs. So those carbs can add up. If you don't use these, how do you cook your chicken, beef, and steak? Inquiring minds want to know..... |
Keep on rollin! :)
Good morning!
Just back from taking Shane to his before-school care program and then some quick items at the grocery store. Thanks to all of your support I wasn't even tempted (OK, not too tempted :o) to buy any high-carb, emotional-need (not real hunger) foods! :smug: For those of you who are new . . . My name is Joanne. I'm 37 years old and the mother of three wonderful (usually) children (ages 13, 11-1/2, and 6 (tomorrow)). My hubby is one of those rare creatures in mates as he is also my best friend. :) I work as an administrative assistant for a company here in New Hampshire. My interests (other than my family/friends and losing over 100 pounds) are reading, crocheting, plastic canvas work, cooking/baking (not necessarily a good thing at this time  ), walking, and surfing the net. I also run a small business selling Avon products (that's just an FYI -- not a push for new customers :o ). I've been overweight (obese levels) since I was 10 years old. Never dieted until I was 19. I actually got down to 168 pounds once! But it meant eating next to nothing and walking or working out at a local gym for a minimum of 1-1/2 hours a day! Once the cold weather came and I added college night classes to my schedule, the exercise stopped and I started eating "on the run" (a.k.a., McDonalds, Burger King, sub/pizza shops, etc.) and I put back all the weight and then some (over 100 pounds in 1 year  ). I LOVE this new low-carb eating! I feel better -- more energy, sounder sleep (but less hours needed). And the weight just keeps coming off. I've lost 12 pounds so far! I had to starve myself on WW for over 8 weeks before I came close to that number! Gotta go. I promised my daughter bacon and eggs for breakfast this morning. Talk to you all soon! |
Kirie,
Just a quick note on the cream. I know Debkay knows this but I am going to take a guess. I think that 1 ounce (or is it table spoon?) of cream has just under 1 gm of carbs. Alot of cheese (my downfall) has 1gm or more per 1 ounce serving. You are correct that they do add up and that you may be better off with the low carb veggies. Also at some point (this is where I am now) you may find that you need to eat less calorie dense food in order to lose. This is why after losing 40 pounds on Atkins that I now struggle! food for thought so to speak! Some smart chick will come along and clarify me if I am wrong. peach |
Good afternoon.
Christy -- About your concern on your cooking ingredients . . . Question: Are you eating all of the sauce and juices the food is cooked in or just the meat/chicken and vegies? If it's the latter, you are not consuming that much at all. If you food swims in the stuff (and you consume it all), then you have reason to be concerned about your carb levels. Please don't cut back on the vegies in lieu of the sauce. Vegies are much better for you body than cream or teriaki (sp?) sauce. I recently prepared chicken cacitore for my family (a favorite). Of course the tomato sauce that the chicken simmers in is very high in carbs. I cooked green and yellow beans seperately and ate those with a piece of chicken with a think coat of the tomato sauce over it. I got the flavor without blowing my carb budget for the day. You can do this with your recipes, too. (Except maybe for things like sloppy joes where the meat is ground and mixed into a high-carb sauce.) Does this information help you any? I hope so. |
Where is everyone?
Hi!
Not to sound like a sour puss (or worse) but where is everyone? I really hope all that nagging to post on other threads didn't put any of you off of this thread. (OK. I'm done with that. :o) Shane had a great first day! He was actually mad at me for picking him up from after school care early. Even the offer of an ice cream cone to celebrate his first day didn't cheer him up. He was just having too much fun! :) I'm glad I didn't go to work today. I started crying in the grocery store (and I hadn't even been consciously thinking about my baby). :( I'm feeling much better now though. Dinner tonght was chicken breast marinated in teriaki sauce for about 2 hours and then baked. Asaparagus on the side &, of course, water. How are the rest of you doing? Are you all still there? Did someone start another thread and forget to let me know? Olley, olley, oxen free! Come out from hiding your slim, little chickies! :) |

Hello all....
When I prepare my chicken with cream, I usually use 1/3rd cup per serving. So I AM consuming 1/3rd cup of cream. But I am not eating this everyday.... Hmmmm. I still lost a pound today... and I am TOM. My weight is dropping fast again now, ever since I cut out the LC cheesecake, and LC PB pie. I am just sticking to the rules now, so my weight is dropping steadily again. And I have been avoiding soy and the Atkins bars which have soy in it. Incase you don't remember, I am allergic to soy.... and it caused a problem when I ingested it inadvertanly during my 1st week of induction. I gave myself a new Induction date of yesterday, Wednesday the 29th of August. Today is Thursday, so we'll see where I am 2 weeks from now. I hope.... I hope.... I hope.... I am going to stay on Induction until I get to 155, 10 pounds from my goal of 145. When I weighed this morning, I dropped to 184.5 from 186 yesterday. I have 39.5 lbs to go, and 29.5 pounds to go on Induction. My mini goal is to get to 179 by September 12th, and not to cheat. I am going to eat only fish for the next 2 day. Tuna for lunch, and some other kind of fish for dinner. Sorry the message was so me me me.... Talk to you all later... Stay OP!!!!! |
