Dr Atkins Questions

Hello
I am on the Dr Atkins diest and I have lost 30 pounds this month.
I am a 6 foot 1 inch man. I started weighing 252 and now I weigh 222. I need to lose another 22 pounds for the mlitary.

I have stayed on the induction program and I am eating less than 10 carbs a day. In the book it said you can stay on it as long as you want to as long as you feel good. So I have been.

My typical dies it

Eggs, cheese, bacon crystal light, carb solution drinks and bars, beef jerkey, ribs, chicken, ground beef patties. I eat as much as I want
I take vitamins also.
Well I know I dont have much variety in my diet, but this is my problem

I have stopped losing weight. I am stuck at 222 no matter what I do.
MY carb intake is low.

I seem to have hit a plateau.
Anyone experienced a rut like this before?
What can i go to get out of this??
I need to lose the weight in the next few weeks for the military and I am stressing out.

Any tips, suggesions?

Your carbs are too low, I think, and you should be eating some veggies. Beef jerky and other processed meats and cheese can cause a stall. How much water are you drinking? If you post a day's food intake, the smart chickies here may spot something.

Good luck and keep posting! Love the name - you are our RockStar Rooster.

By the way, have you checked out www.atkinsfriends.com? The folk on that board are all pure Atkins, I think and might have better answers. We have a wide variety of low carb plans here but some folks are on Atkins too.

Hiya Rock Star.

The stall you have hit is a very common and frustrating occurance with this way of eating.

Dr Atkins has a few suggestions himself. In his New Diet Revolution book, page 302, he suggests four reasons anyone might go into a plateau. The fourth reason is you might be ingesting too much aspartame. It seems to stop weight loss. I don't know what is in Crystal Light, but this might be one of the reasons.

Also, this "diet" is supposed to be a lifetime change, not a quick weight loss program. If you lose weight too quickly you are possibly (actually probably) losing muscle mass more than fat. This means you will not only make your body less healthy, you also will be setting yourself up for gaining it all back as soon as you get off the induction foods.

I know you are in a hurry to lose the weight. My suggestion is that you might try increasing your activity level. The military not only needs you at a certain weight, they also will require you to pass a physical challenge. Running a mile or more within a time limit I think is part of it. And a whole lot of timed push-ups and so on. So, you could increase your activity to get at least up to the level of acitivity they will ask of you, or more active if you are already very active. And you can do this as well as keeping on your induction diet. CAUTION: be careful of what you can do and cannot do. Don't start running a mile if you don't already do at least a half a mile. It is very dangerous to add activities too fast.

Good luck and let us know what did or did not work.

I jusp posted a thread regarding stalls within the first 6 weeks I iwill bring it up. it will answer some questions. I did get it off the protein power board but the plans are so similar... great job on the weight loss so far!!!
