LCFS Week of September 12th

Hi,

Hope you're all enjoying your weekend. I'm off to meet my cousin for lunch later this morning. This may be our last time. :(

Nikki, thanks for letting us know about SS new books. I probably won't get the chocolate book either, but the recipe book looks like it will be interesting. I believe she is on HSN starting either Wed. or Thurs. and is going to be on until Sunday. I think that's what her website says. She must have a lot of stuff to sell if she's going to be on all that time. I probably won't watch too much of her because she's starting to wear a little thin. I always liked the interaction with SS & Colleen, but it doesn't seem to be the same anymore. Maybe it's just me. I can't stand SS & Lynn when they do the SSizing segment. The noises Lynn makes when she eats SS food turns me right off. :ink: We also use propane for everything, heat, dryer, and hot water. We used to pay monthly installments and at the end of the billing period they would adjust our last statement accordingly. That worked out pretty well. We stopped it once we knew we were going to be moving. Now we'll have to pay up front for every delivery. How was the car show?

ANNE, for your sake I hope they get a replacement for Tanya soon. Can you call in sick when you have to visit your son's teachers and doctor? We see that Ivan is still going a bit more west, and for the moment it looks like it will bypass most of the southern west coast of FL and make land fall north of where we're moving to. There still may be some high winds, but nothing like what would happen if it came ashore. We haven't stopped packing just yet, but we're on pins and needles as to whether or not we'll be moving next week.

Hi lynn

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Aleka

nikkic 09-12-2004 10:39 AM

Good morning,
I can not believe it's already Sunday again, where does time go? I didn't go to the car show, I just laid on the couch all afternoon. I was justs pooped.
I redid my menu yesterday and decided that even though some food will not be eaten (by me anyway), that I will start to SS tomorrow. I'm going to try to do it by the book, as much as possible. Including, no caffeine and no cheating. Last time, that was what really worked. Then, I started to cheat, eating stuff off plan once a week, then a few times a week, then several times a week, you know the story. Anyway, that's the plan today, sure hope I can keep this in mind when the first challenge presents itself, like DH wanting to eat out at a favorite restaurant
I am so turned off by SS on HSN, I just wont' watch anymore. I think, it's become quite a money making affair and her husband has pushed her into doing more than she might have wanted to. Who knows? I do know, she is on way too much, like Adrienne or Andrew Lessman. I still enjoy reading her books and I do agree with the woe, so that's what matters. I was looking at her food on her website. The s&h is much less than what you'd pay HSN. I haven't ordered anything, most everything you can now buy locally (low carb stuff I mean) wish she would sell her products in the stores, but who would really pay the high prices if you compared the prices to Atkins or the other, less expensive brands?
Aleka, I hope Ivan continues to move away from your house. They said this is the worst storm season since 1964. Hope this doesn't happen again for along time. Do you have a generator? I read almost everyone down there has one, due to power going out.
What those poor people on Granada and the smaller islands are having to deal with. I feel so sorry for the Cubans and wish we could help them. They have nothing and now, even that has been blown away.
Anne, I'd call in sick to attend meetings with Davids teachers (or if you just need some time away from the stress. Stress can cause all kinds of illness). My dad use to call them casual days. He was very good about attendance, but every now and then, when he had to do something important for his family, but couldn't get the time off, then those casual days came in handy. You have to set your priorities and your family comes first. Like I tell my DD, you work to make money to live, you don't live to work. You have obviously not called in for along time, so if you do have to, do not feel guilty about it. Your a very dependable person and you've been a very good employee.
Hi Lynn, hope your enjoying your weekend.
I better get to the store and get my kitchen stocked. I have a few things that I need to get rid of first.
Take care, Nikki

nikkic 09-12-2004 10:46 AM

Aleka, I noticed a while ago those noises Lynn makes. She makes some unusual noises when she's selling jewelry too. I use to like to watch her, but she gets on my nerves now.
I like Colleen. She has a lot of class and can be so funny. I think she does a great job. I like her better when she is herself though and not with SS. I think they use to have a lot of fun being silly together, then some one more powerful told them to keep doing that and it isn't spontaneous anymore. To me, it seems like they are forcing it and it's just not the same.

alynn 09-12-2004 12:31 PM

Hi All: SS is just like Atkins for all the product pushing and in my opion there are inconsistancys in programs that wern't there in the beginning of programs. SS's recipes often enclude to many of her products that I will not be buying with the exchange rate on Canadian dollars. I use her older books for ideas and recipes. Had a busy day yesterday, DD came for a belated B'day with Cooper. They have done an incrediable job with that dog in 3 weeks since I have seen them. I am still waiting to hear about Morgan. DH told me to back off that she isn't our dog now. I will wait a bit and than approach them again. Aleka I am still at the trailer. We usually stay until our thanksgiving (2nd Monday of Oct.) because of DH's golfing. In the next week or so we will start taking stuff to Wasaga and I have decided I am moving back around the last week of Sept. I don't know when DH is moving back probabley when I do , I mean who is going to put his meals in front of him? Anne sounds like you need "some mental health days" remember you are the only one that looks out for you. Time to think of you!!!!! well I guess I'm off to do I don't know but another beautiful to do it in. Hi Nikki

aleka 09-13-2004 08:09 AM

A Good Morning to you all,

We had such a beautiful day yesterday. It was in the 70's with some humidity, but it wasn't too bad. I think that we're in for a stretch of nice weather.

It looks like Ivan may miss some of the west coast of FL, down around where we're going to be. He keeps leaning more towards the west. I pity those poor people wherever he makes landfall.

Friends of our's were at their cottage over the weekend and they dropped in yesterday morning. We said our good-byes and it was kind of painful. I've known her since 1958. Then I met my cousin for lunch and had another painful good-bye. This is hard. :( I'm sure they'll be down for visits and I know we'll be coming to NH for our vacations in the summer.

lynn, you are so right about SS. I have seen a post or two on her website from the old timers who have been SSizing for quite a few years recommend new SSizers to buy her first two books and follow what is written in them. She is trying too sell too many products, but they are convenient. I bought some of her salad dressing. I made the Green Goddess dressing and it was delicious. I am hooked on her salad dressing. Glad that you're still at your trailer. It must be so nice there in the fall. Is it quiet during the week then busy on the weekends? That's the way it is around here. Enjoy the rest of your stay there.

Nikki, hope SS goes well for you today. Since we're trying to get our refrigerator cleaned out, I haven't been strictly SSizing. Most of my meals have been SSized. I have some turkey sausage, hamburg, pasta sauce, peppers, pepperoni, and cheese. So, I plan on making pizza using the sausage & hamburg as the crust. The only problem with this pizza is, DH & I eat the whole thing in one sitting. :hun:  I too like Colleen. She was on a few weeks ago with Patti LaBelle. I had it on as I was going to sleep and I heard the both of them laughing up a storm and thought to myself that they were having a grand ole time for themselves. I went into HSN's BB the next day and a lot of people were talking about it and what a funny show it was.

ANNE, are you heading back to work today? Hope things aren't too stressful for you.

Have a great Monday everyone.
Aleka

aleka 09-13-2004 08:19 AM

Oops,

Forgot to mention. I read on SS website that as long as you have a steady weight loss, you now can eat fruit with other things, like cereal. That's something new. I may try it from the start and see how it goes.

Aleka

alynn 09-13-2004 12:09 PM

Goodmorning All: I have just spent a couple of hours on the www.lowcarbluxury.com and did you know they have a on-line magazine? You can even access the back issues. There is some great reading there. Remember when we were discussing the menopause symptoms? Well this morning I woke up with a pimple!!! Come on 50+ years old and a pimple, I"m not impressed. Aleka, I looked up the green goddess recipe and am going to make it for lunch. I have been having my fruit in the morning when I first get up as SS says but would enjoy it in the evening. Can you remember what site you got the pizza recipe from? That sounds really good. Well Nikki today is "D" day what exciting is on your menu today? I had cheese omelet for breakfast lunch will be salmon salad and diet jello and dinner will be chicken mock potatoes and asparagus. I'm not drinking enough water so am really concentrating on that today. Well that's it for today hope your day is going well today, a great day for a walk at lunch. Bye for now

nikkic 09-13-2004 03:06 PM

Hi,
I downloaded the new windows service pack last night, it took forever and my computer has been acting weird ever since. Thought I'd better post while I can. It might be a better idea to download that in a month or two, when they have all the bugs worked out.

I agree, I think the over commercialization is what turns people off, at least it does me. I joined ediets the beginning of the year so it would be easier to do Atkins. I was instantly turned off because the menus were full of Atkins products. You could substitute regular food of course, but it was more work than just thinking up my own menus. Real food is always better than processed.

Here's my menu for today

Breakfast
2 eggs over easy fried in butter
3 strips of bacon
1 glass of tomato juice

Lunch
2 hot dogs with low carb ketchup, mustard and onions
pickles
salad with tomato, cucumber and low carb italian dressing

Snack
watermelon

Supper
Parmesan chicken breast (chicken rolled in herbs, parmesan cheese and baked)
Broccoli salad with mayo, cheddar cheese, onion, vinegar, lemon juice, herbs and bacon

Snack
string cheese

I was reading the latest SS book Eat Cheat and Melt the Fat Away and her sample menu for the first two weeks included fruit later in the day as a snack. I think she wants you to eat it first thing in the morning, but you can have it on occasion during the day. I wasn't able to do it this morning due to a time crunch, so thought it would be ok later.
This is what I'm planning on having. I'm going to make up some sf jello for that late night snack monster and fold in some whipping cream.

Hope I can post tomorrow, I don't know what to expect now with my computer. Nikki

nikkic 09-13-2004 06:11 PM

I got back on, and remembered I wanted to post more before, so here I am. This computer is heading for a major melt down I'm afraid. It's not working right at all.

Aleka, I'm really glad that Ivan will miss your house. I'm sorry for the people that it will hurt though. What a year for weather, huh? I heard on the news last night that in Iowa alone, there were 70 tornado's this year. Really odd weather. We are having some nice weather again today, although it's a little hot (88 and humid) but that's ok, these days are numbered and I will not complain.
I know you posted about the pizza before, but please post again how to make it. It sounds really good.

Lynn, I like the lowcarbluxury site. I haven't been there in a long time, I think I'll check it out.
It just floors me when I get a pimple-with wrinkles, there should be no pimples.

Anne, hope your day is going ok. Was this the first day back to work?

Til tomorrow, Nikki

ANNE D 09-13-2004 06:36 PM

Hi Everyone:
Just a quick post. I had an absolutely hellish day. I never had a day that
I burst into tears more times than this one. I came back to find my work so
far behind I don't know if I can ever catch up. demands that I
have to sit in Tanya's old desk. The problem with this is that I will be
interupted contantly by patients. The phone never stops ringing either.
To make a long story short we had one nasty exchange. She told me that
when I move over to Tanya's desk to get rid of the **** off of mine. I can only think she is talking about the pictures of my kids. I can't even
type this without starting to cry again.
Later guys.
Anne.

aleka 09-14-2004 05:59 AM

Good morning,

I haven't been sleeping very well. For the past few mornings I've been waking up around 2:00 am. Normally I lie there and finally get back to sleep around 5:00, but this morning I just couldn't get back to sleep. So...I've been up for a while. I'm sure the move next week and weaning myself off of Premarin, which I'm off of now, has a lot to do with it.

ANNE, I am so sorry you had to go through that with  This is really a stressful time for you. When she told you to get your stuff off your desk, she may have meant for you to clean off your desk and put your stuff on Tanya's desk. That was a nasty way to put it though. She should really go for some sensitivity training. She may also be upset that Tanya is gone and is taking it out on you, which she shouldn't be doing. Are there any openings in another department in your hospital that you could ask for a transfer? I'll be thinking of you today. I hope it's better for you. :grouphug:

Nikki, how is your computer running today? Iowa really had a lot of tornados this year. Is that a record? We had weird weather too here in New England. We had no summer to speak of. Usually the month of July it's in the 90's and very humid. We only had 1 day that it got to 90 deg. I was wrong about the end of hurricane season. It's Nov. 30th that it ends. I'm thankful too that Ivan won't be hitting where we're moving to. But, I really feel for the poor people that will get hit. Sure, I'll post the pizza recipe. That's what we're having for supper tonight. I need to get rid of some turkey sausage so I'll be putting that in with the hamburg. It's funny, I haven't really been SSizing 100% this past week, and I really feel it.

lynn, thank you for posting the low carb website. I bookmarked it into my favorites. A cousin of mine, who is doing a low carb diet, e mailed me the pizza recipe.

One thing I've been meaning to ask all of you. Do you use the pre-packaged shredded sheese or do you shred your own?

Pizza:

Brown 1 lb. hamburg in a skillet, drain fat. Add a small jar of no sugar added pasta or pizza sauce (I can only find large jars of no sugar added pasta sauce, so I use about 1 cup) Mix, then pat it down into the skillet. Add whatever toppings you wish, I usually add pepperoni, and peppers, one time I added bacon, sprinkle with cheese, cover, and heat until cheese melts.

DH & I like this better than pizza with a crust.

Have a good day.
Aleka

nikkic 09-14-2004 07:59 AM

Good morning,
Oh, Anne, I'm so sorry this is happening to you. Is being rotten with you. Goodness, she should be appreciating you and kissing your behind right now. I mean if you left, what would she do? Could you transfer to a different department?

Aleka, thanks for the recipe. That seems easy and looks like it will be good too. I've been using shredded cheese, because I had 6 lbs in the fridge and I still have most of it. I know it has potato starch in it to keep it seperated. I can't imagine it would be that much, but I will probably start to shred my own when this is gone. For now, I'm trying to stick to it as close as I can. Having said that, can anyone remember if it's ok to cook with beer? I'm making a dish for supper and it's got beer in it. I'm using Miller lite, so it's pretty low carb. Not sure what my menu will be for the day. For supper, I'm planning on Beer Braised Pork Chops-has mushrooms, onions, herbs and 1 can of beer in it, with cauliflower faux tatoes and green beans.
I didn't cheat yesterday and did Body Flex and the Gazelle.

My computer may have to go somewhere if I can't figure this out. I can't do some things, like when I wanted to sign into another site, it just kept sending me back to the sign in page. When I tried to contact McAfee, it didn't let me sign in. I've tried to download an update from Microsoft and it wouldn't do that either. Every time I open the computer, my antivirus is disabled and I have to manually engage it. I tried to order some pillows from Overstock and when I hit the check out button, it said it couldn't find the page. This is really frustrating. I thought the Service Pack 2 was suppose to be a good thing, to prevent worms and bugs from invading your computer, I didn't know it would lock the whole thing up too.

Hi Lynn!
Take care, Nikki

nikkic 09-14-2004 08:37 AM

Never mind about the beer, I guess I can't use it. I knew you couldn't drink it, but I was hoping it would be ok to cook with it. I'll use chicken broth instead. Nikki

ANNE D 09-15-2004 03:40 AM

Hi Everyone:
I would love to get a transfer. Problem is this...because I have worked at
the hospital so many years and have so much vacation entitlement not
many departments like that.
From what I am understanding  is under the gun to explain why it
takes two full time employee's to run the cash office. The "higher ups"
figure it is an easy breezy job. Nothing can be farther from the truth and
trust me I can work like blazes but this will plant me. I have made up my
mind to go slower, bugger these people. You should have seen me yesterday
I looked like the last wrath of God :o If I get upset again I am going to
go to the health unit at the hospital and tell them my nerves are shot to
heck because of the pressure and rudness of  . Remeber at the
beginning of the year when Tanya was off for many many weeks because
she had reached the emotional breaking point with  ? Tanya was
in touch with me yesterday to see how things were going and she strongly
suggested I go to the health unit. She told me, they will beleive you Anne
after all the complaining I did.

Nikki, does your gazelle squeak when you are using it? My gazelle sounds
like a rusty door!!

Aleka, have you ever heard of using cream cheese for a pizza crust? I know
Suzannes book had a recipe for that. I love pizza.

Well, inspite of my emotional state I have been true to my program ladies.
I figure its more important than ever for me to guard my health.

Have a great day and thank you all so much for the support :grouphug:

Anne.

aleka 09-15-2004 07:33 AM

Hi everyone,

ANNE, that is such a shame your work place is in such a turmoil and that  is making it worse. I would take Tanya's advice, go to the health unit, and maybe something could be done with  At work, just do what you can, then maybe the higher ups will see that the cash office should have more than one person in there. My gazelle started to squeak too which drove me crazy. I have gotten rid of the gazelle, :( because I have no room for it in the new house, as I have no downstairs. It's been so long since I've SSized that I'm not sure if I've heard about a cream cheese pizza crust. It does sound familiar though, and it does sound delicious.

Nikki, how did your Beer Braised Pork Chops turn out without using beer? The pizza turned out great using both turkey sausage and hamburg. It made it more filling so that we didn't eat the whole thing in one sitting. We have enough left over for lunch today. Have you gotten your computer straightened out yet? If not, is there someone you can call for tech help?

Hi lynn, hope you're having a good week so far.

Do either one of you recall a recipe that was on SS website for cheese cake that you made in muffin tins? I remember printing it out, but I think I threw it away thinking I'd never be SSizing again. I may have some searching to do.

Have a great day everyone.
Aleka

aleka 09-15-2004 07:55 AM

Me again,

Never mind, I found the recipe for the cheesecake cupcakes.

ANNE, I also found some recipes for cream cheese pizza crusts in the website I posted a couple weeks or so ago. A couple of them use ground pork rinds along with the cream cheese.
http://slgkali.homestead.com/RecipeIndex.html Click onto PIZZA.

Aleka

nikkic 09-15-2004 08:23 AM

Good morning,
Anne, that may be a good idea. You are totally stressed out and if they think your job can be done with just one person, then you will be stressed until you retire, unless you let them know that it's not really possible to do you job alone. I learned, if they put the pressure on you and expect you to meet a certain level and you do it, despite the fact that it's nearly impossible for a human being to continue to do it for any period of time, they will just keep expecting you to maintain that level.
I'm sure glad to hear that your still sticking to your diet and exercise plan.

Aleka, I didn't make the pork chops last night. DH was too tired to wait for supper and ate leftovers. I was too tired later to cook just for myself, so I had hotdogs. I'll make the pork chops tonight, but will probably just coat them with seasoning and fry them up.

Yesterday, I had shredded wheat with skim milk for breakfast after having a peach 20 min before that. For lunch we went to a restaurant and I had a perfectly legal fajita salad with salsa for dressing. But, I automatically ordered iced tea and drank most of it before I realized I wasn't going to drink caffiene anymore, oops! The chicken was burnt and there were way too many onions, so I didn't eat much. After I got home, I tipped the refrigerator forward, opened my mouth and ate everything in there the rest of the day. It was all SS stuff-salad with dressing, the rest of the broccoli salad, cheese, jello with whipping cream (I know, the jello isn't exactly SS because of the artificial sweetner). I still don't feel bad, I know my cells have to get the sugar out of them and heal up. I think I'll skip high carb meals until I'm more on my way though. The shredded wheat didn't fill me up at all.

I am still having major computer problems. As far as I know, there is no one locally that I can take it to and I can't seem to log into microsoft. I'm still working on it, found out that my firewall wasn't on anymore. I am now going through the whole thing with McAfee and checking it all out. I reset my settings and that helped some with logging on to websites. I wish they would make this easier. I don't know if it's just Gateway, but it sure seems hard and I feel like I'm finding out all kinds of new stuff all the time. Why can't you just turn the darned thing on and it works right?

HI Lynn!

Later, Nikki

nikkic 09-15-2004 10:02 AM

I'm going to try this again. I tried to post, but it won't work.
Anne, my Gazelle has squeeked too. We use WD40 on it and sometimes, the bolts need a good retightening, as they seem to work out alittle.

alynn 09-15-2004 11:31 AM

Goodmorning All: I have lost 3 posts this morning so this better work or I give up. Spent yesterday shopping, had lunch out and went to friends for dinner. Sometimes the 24/7 gets to me and I have to take off for a while. Anne, you might have to file a greivance to get the attention of the people above. I can't imagine working in that stress. That Pizza recipe sounds good. I'm going to have that for dinner with a salad. Thanks Aleka. I am going to have a chicken breast the way you did it Nikki for lunch. For breakfast I had scrambled eggs with bacon, lunch chicken breast mock potatoes and marinated tomatoes. My snacks are the diet jello's or fruit. Today I am going to start cleaning out cupboards for the move to Wasaga. As the flylady does I will take 1 area at a time. I am having no computer problems except on this site, which annoys the heck out of me. I had never typed until I got my computer so am just getting speed going but not enough to try posting 3x before it goes though. I think it is my pop-up blocker but the pop-ups bug me too. Well must go, the dog is in the water and have to keep her from going to far out. Have I told you that she spends up to 5 hours a day in the lake coming out to do her business than back in. She sleeps well at night!!!!! Well thats it for now. Oh I forgot to tell you about a lunch I had I think on Monday. I made up salmon salad with lots of veggies used SS's green goddess dressing in it than put it on endive leaves and it was so good!!!!

nikkic 09-15-2004 03:12 PM

Hi,
Lynn, when you write a post, before you click on submit, just copy it. If it doesn't work, you can then just paste it on the next one until it does get posted. I'm not sure why that is happening to you either. I'm up to my eyeballs in computer problems right now and I'm ready to throw the damn thing out the window.

Has anyone tried Seven Seas Green Goddess dressing? I had it on my salad for lunch and it's really good. It's completely SS'ed too.

Last night, a man came to the door, it was a politician. I told DH not to let him in the house and to get rid of him. The next thing I know, DH is coming back in telling me that this guy wants to put a sign in our yard for his election and DH told him it was ok. Then, the guy said that since we have so much traffic here, he would like to put up a 4x8 foot sign and DH told him ok. I wanted to flip out, but didn't. We don't even know anything about him, except that he's a democrat. And, the icing on the cake is his last name is SEXTRO. That's just what I want sitting out in my front yard

Later, Nikki

Born2run2 09-15-2004 11:57 PM

Hi I'm new to the forum, Am trying to decide if low carbing is right for me. All I know is something has got to change. Lately I've been gaining instead of losing, and am always hungry to the point of a sick headache if I don't eat. I hear protein sticks with you longer. I understand how you feel Nikki I don't think I'd want a sign like that in my yard either.Cheese cake cupcakes sound yummy. I think I wil have to start collecting recipes. Judy

aleka 09-16-2004 05:47 AM

Good morning, :coffee:

Judy, welcome aboard :balloons: Glad that you decided to join us. Which low carb plan are you planning on doing? Protein does stay with you longer. After a while you almost forget to eat. :D I've been doing some reading on losing weight naturally, eating when you're hungry and stopping when you're satisfied. One book advises that you eat within 5-10 min. when you start feeling hungry. If it's possible, carry around something healthy to snack on so you won't get overly hungry and get a headache. One thing that really satisfies me is, I take either turkey or chicken lunch meat, spread some cream cheese on it, then roll it up. Looking forward to seeing more of your posts.

Nikki, I'm sitting here chuckling over the political sign sitting on your front lawn, especially the name  I'll have to look for that Green Goddess salad dressing, I don't believe I've ever seen it. I've also been using Paul Newman's oil and vinegar salad dressing. It's really good. What type of shredded wheat did you have? We either use the biscuits or Shredded Wheat 'n' Bran. When I have the biscuits I have 2 then put a lot of milk in the bowl. The extra milk seems to make cereal stay with me longer. I had been eating Uncle Sam's cereal, and that really stayed with me, but it's got flaxseeds in it and they are a :nono: on SSizing. For some reason, probably left over from my WW days, I always measure my cereal as to the serving size on the box. One morning I had a protein breakfast. After a while I had awful hearburn, then started getting shaky. So, I know I have to have a carb breakfast.

ANNE, how are things going with you at work? I've been thinking about you.
Hopefully the higher ups will see a need for 2 people to work in the cash office.

lynn, did you finally get Mya out of the water? I made some chicken salad using the Green Goddess dressing and put it on romaine lettuce leaves. It really was good. I have some other creamy salad dressing mixes from SS, I think one of them is some sort of peppercorn dressing. I plan on making that next and make chicken salad with it. I've also made the chips out of cheese in the microwave. They turned out good.

We've got a lot of running around to do today. I've got a hair appt. in a couple of hrs., DH has one later, then later this afternoon we have to take Lacee to the Vet for a health certificate for traveling next week.

Have a great day everyone.
Aleka

nikkic 09-16-2004 10:21 AM

Good morning,

Hi:wave:Judy, welcome to the thread. We are all Somersizing right now, but we've done different plans at different times. Not always low carb ones, but I think we've done most of the major low carb diets.
What I found on this long weight loss journey of mine is that when I'm hungry, I want to eat. If I have to keep denying myself (like with low calorie or low fat) I will not be able to do it for any length of time. I like low carb, because I feel satisfied most of the time and if I'm hungry, I just eat some protein or a vegetable with some fat. With Somersizing, you eat until your satisfied (not stuffed) and if your hungry later, eat again. Eventually, the sugar overload gets balanced in your system and then you fall into a steady pattern of eating like a normal person-3 meals a day with a snack or two during the day. Somersizing is not exactly like the other low carb plans, since you can eat carbs right from the start if you want to, like whole grains and fruits. If you want to learn more about it, we would be happy to discuss it with you or we can give you websites to look for recipes. www.somersize.com is one, look under the discussion and then scroll through the forums, there is lots of information and recipes there. Aleka, didn't you write an essay about it for 3FC's awhile back? I don't know where it is, but I'm sure Aleka can give you a reference to it.

The sign is not in the yard yet, just can't wait

My diet has been going great. I made cusinvin's coffee cake last night. If you haven't made it, it's pretty good, the recipe is on the SS site.
Here's my menu from yesterday
B-2 eggs, 3 strips bacon, decaf with cream
L-2 hot dogs, salad with tomato and dressing
S-pork chop, faux tatoes (cauliflower with sour cream and cream cheese), tomato slices, spinach
Snacks-2 slices coffee cake, 2 pieces string cheese, salad with dressing

Goodness, I am running late, have a good day, Nikki

Judy, if you go to the somersize website, click on community, then on the next page, click on discussion (on the right side). On the following page, scroll down to where you see forums about Somersizing. The others are about her jewelry, equipment and such.

Judy,
One more thing, I just wanted to let you know that just because we are Somersizing, doesn't mean you have to be. We don't care what kind of plan your following, low carb, low cal, whatever. Your welcome to join us, ok? Sometimes, I don't always say what I am thinking right on the computer. Just wanted to clarify that-Nikki

aleka 09-16-2004 12:04 PM

Hi again,

Nikki, that's right I did write an essay on Somersizing. I had completely forgotten about it. Thank you for remembering!

Judy, if you are interested in Somersizing and would like to read about it, on 3FC home page, click on DIETS. When that page comes up, to your right you will see a list of diets. Scroll down until you see Somersizing, then click on that. If you have any questions we all can help you, and if there is something we don't know, Suzanne's website has a lot of information and tips. If you do go into her website, click on FAQ's and you can get just about any question answered. If you are interested in Somersizing, we can recommend which book(s) to get.

I had my hair appt. earlier this morning. I've been going to her for about 5 yrs. or so. She said that she wasn't going to hug me and say good-bye because she's awful at saying good-byes. I was relieved. But, she did hug me, then she started crying...which in turn started me crying. I never dreamed saying all my good-byes was going to be this difficult. :( At least I don't have to say bye to you guys, just for a little while anyway, until we get our 'puter back up and running again. Sorry for the rambling, but I'm kind of sad at the moment, and DH doesn't understand.

Hi everyone: I had forgotten that it was Aleka's essay that brought me to this site, and as they say the rest is history. Aleka , when we moved out of the GTA (Toronto)I couldn't believe how sad I was. It's not just saying goodbye to friends and family it's saying goodbye to a way of life and a bit of fear of the unknown. Before I forget, what are pork rinds? I notice that a lot of recipes use them for coating, breading etc. Were would I find them. Anne do we have them up here? Nikki how is the computer going. I just phoned my brother to get a date on me getting his lap-top and he is off to the east coast on business. I was hoping to do it next week when we are down for a few days at DD's. We had to go to town early to get some tests done. It were the fasting blood tests so of coarse missed breakfast. I couldn't believed how hungry I was when we got back at 11:30. For lunch I had a hamburger in a lettuce leaf and veggies. I am still hungry, it goes to show you can't miss a meal. I sure hope I don't screw up before dinner. Dinner will be pork tenderloin with faux potatoes. I havn't made up my mind about a veggie yet. Nikki what site did you get the coffee car recipe? Hi Judy hope you join us. Hi Anne, hope your week is bareable. Later

Thankyou for the suggestions. I will look into Somersiziing I have to admit I haven't given that plan much thought. I purchased both Atkins and Protein Power and have been looking thru them.. I will do the same with the one you suggested. I know I'm getting concerned about my runaway appetite, so I'm thibking I'm on the right track with the Low carb. Boy I can sure sympathize with what it's like to have to say goodby to all your friends, I did that when we moved out here so long ago. Of course you will make new friends, but nothing can take the place of your old friends. Thank goodness for email. This morning I had bacon and eggs, for lunch am thinking of a chefs salad. I hope everyone has a great day, and thanks again for your suggestions. Judy

Afternoon,
Aleka, I like shredded wheat biscuits, I forgot to answer that before.
It is very hard saying good bye. The computer sure does help now, saves a fortune on long distance. It's going to be such a big change for you Aleka, the weather, the vegitation, every thing. It takes awhile before you adjust, but then, you settle down into a routine and life gets normal again. It will be ok :grouphug: I'm always surprised at how little DH and I really are able to communicate, it's like he really is from a different planet. Sometimes, we have complete conversations and find out that we are talking about different subjects all together.

Lynn, pork rinds are in the chip section of the grocery store. They are fried pork skin (ick, I know). But, they are often used for coating and you can even make cakes with them. I've used them, but honestly, I could always taste the pork. It's kind of like a bacon flavor. I don't know if you have them up there or not. I got the coffee cake recipe from the SS site, do a search for Cuznvin's Crazy Coffeecake. It's made with protein powder instead of flour and it's a pro/fat. I've tried lots of protein powder recipes, this one is pretty good.
My computer is still messed up and I have to fiddle with the darned thing every time I turn it on. Sometimes, it works better than others. I will have to keep working on it. We have a love/hate relationship.

It's Friday!

I'm up early again. Last night I was so exausted I went to bed rather early. I've been waking up around 3:00 am, and can't get back to sleep, so I just lie there until 5:00 then get up. I know you all can relate to this. ;)

Thank you all for your kind words. I guess men don't form the same kind of attatchments that women do.

Nikki, went into SS site and found the recipe for Cuzinvin's Coffee Cake. I'll be printing it out. I also found a recipe for Starlight's Cinnamon Buns, which are a level 1 carb. I will print this out also. Sorry that your computer is still messed up. Hope you can solve the problem.

Judy, it is hard saying good bye to old friends. I have had one friend for over 40 yrs. I'm sure she and her DH will be down for a visit. Did your protein breakfast stay with you throughout the morning?

lynn, I don't know if anybody else has noticed this, or if it's just me. But, pork rinds seem to have an unpleasant smell to them. :p I am overly sensitive to fragrances anyway, so it could be just me. I did use them when I SSized before. But, I just used them as a filler for meatloaf. If you go into Suzanne's website, there is a thread for legal brands in Canada. You may possibly find some info there. Are you having some gorgeous weather where you're staying? It was warm and humid here yesterday.

Anne, hope these last few days haven't been too stressful for you. It's Friday, and you won't have to think of work for the next couple days.

I'm off to meet a friend for lunch. This will definitely be our last NH outing. Her son lives in FL, about 1 town away from where I'm going to live. She flies down there about once a month, so she and I will still be getting together occasionally.

Take care and enjoy your day!
Aleka

Goodmorning All: Thanks Aleka for telling me about the thread for Canadian products. I spent the morning there and found out I am really doing this all wrong!!!! Acording to the site I can't have chrystal light, pop or diet jello. Most products in Canada are sweetened with aspartame. There is a pop at costco (kirkland brand) obviously brought in from the USA that is legal except it is not caffeine free. I have told you all that I love pop. Cola soda I don't care and to get my water in I use crystal light in my bottled water. I have a diet jello everyday, sooooo it looks like I am really low-carbing not SSing. I will continue to do as I am. Two years ago I lost lots of weight doing just what I am now. I guess this is a case were ignorance is bliss. Oh well, maybe next week I will drive to Buffalo from DD's ( an hour away) and pick up legal sweetener but I will think about it as it seema a lot of effort for something that might not make much of a differance. Nikki I was able to find out were I can get pork rinds but when you told me what they were it groases me out. Found a lot of great recipes and will check back a lot Hi Anne, TGIF!!!!!!! have a great weekend. Hi Judy. Well off to clean out cupboards and drawers, it just dawned on me with the trip to DD's next week I don't have much time to get ready for the move back to Wasaga. Talk to you all soon

nikkic 09-17-2004 12:11 PM

Good morning,
I've spent most of my morning trying to fix my computer problems, but it gets stuck and then won't move. Then, I have to turn it off and reboot and start all over. I'm really getting frustrated with this thing.

How is everyone's weight loss going? I weigh myself in 2 days and I'm wondering what it will be. I have been eating everything in sight, but it's all been legal food. However, I do feel better than I've felt in a long time and that means a lot.

Aleka, maybe we should start a 4am chat for all of us night owls? Actually, I'm sleeping better right now than I have for over a year. I'm not sure why. Are you taking afternoon naps? When I can't sleep very well at night, I always try to lay down after lunch for about 1/2 hour, it seems to help me.

Lynn, some people can use aspartemine without any problems and some can't. I am still eating jello on occasion. I generally use Spenda though when I add it to my cooking. If your not having any problem with it (if it's not effecting your weight loss), I won't worry about it. I am a water drinker, but it took me several months to get to be one. I use to be a heavy pop/coffee drinker. What I did was, just once or twice a day, especially when I was really thirsty, I'd just drink a bottle of water instead of the pop. Then, I would sometimes substitute iced tea. Gradually, I increased it, decreasing my pop. Now, I don't drink pop at all. I seem to have lost the taste for it. I like the clean, refreshing taste of water and tea better. I still have a few cups of decaf with cream a day, it's my after meal treat/dessert.

Our weather is still fantastic. Now, I'm really starting to wonder about it. We never have weather like this for this long of a time.
I have to go pick some vegetables. Still have lots of tomatoes, beans and zucchini out there.

Hi Anne, hope your day flies by and you can get some time to relax this weekend.

Hi Judy:wave:

Take care everyone, Nikki

nikkic 09-17-2004 04:15 PM

Here's a website Rondaren (she posts on the SS boards) did.

http://www.geocities.com/ss_recipes/

There are alot of old SS recipes here from the boards before they were shut down. I don't know if you've posted this before, Aleka.

aleka 09-17-2004 05:38 PM

Nikki, thanks for the website. I may have had it at one time, but when that virus hit the computer, I lost all my favorites. I don't think I ever posted it. Thanks again.

Hi All, Just wanted to report and tell you that I have had much more control of my appetite since reverting to Low Carb.I've been doing this for 2 days so far. Hoefully I will start shedding pounds, I haven't really done any plan just been eating mostly meat, cheese and veggies, and low carb soy milk. Too bad I don't live closer to Canada. I read on another board where the grocery stores have all kinds of products sweetened with Splenda. I'm not sure of the regulations on taking things acrossed the border though. I think they've gotten stricter. My prayers are with the people who live in Florida. I'm not sure if we have any that posts on the board. Hope everyone is having a great day, Judy

aleka 09-18-2004 06:46 AM

Good morning,

It's been raining here for a while. It has been rather muggy here for the past couple of days.

Judy, glad that you appetite is under control. I have a cousin who has lost quite a bit of weight doing her own low carb WOE and not following any specific plan. I'll be moving to Florida on Tuesday. DH & I picked a good year to move. :^:

Nikki, good luck with your weigh in. If we did start a chat at 4:00 am some morning, that would be the time I'd sleep until 6:00 or so. I was so tired yesterday, that I did sleep through to at least 5:00 this morning. Sorry that you're still having computer problems. I was telling DH about your computer problem. He was telling me that he read on some of his boards that some computers with something called an AMD chip have been having problems with the new Microsoft SP2 update that is supposed to take care of security flaws. This is all jibberish to me. Anyhoo, he said there are some websites you can go into to find more about the problem. I'm not sure if this is the update you downloaded. If it is, let me know, and DH can search the posts he saw on one of his boards to find out if anyone had posted the websites to go into and what they are.

lynn, if you drive to Buffalo, they're certain to have Waist Watcher soda (which you call pop). It's made in upstate NY. The WW soda is caffiene free and made with Splenda. They have all sorts of flavors to choose from. DH & I drink it all the time. Also, if you can find Diet-Rite, they're also caffiene free, made with Splenda, and come in a variety of flavors. If you like pickles and can find them in Buffalo, I don't know if they go that far. They're called Mt Olive, which are made in North Carolina. They have some pickles and a sweet relish made with Splenda. I am addicted to their gherkins. I have also seen posts of a jello mix called Jolly Roger that is made with Splenda. But, I don't know where it's distributed. We can't get it in NH. If the jello you're using works, and you enjoy it, keep using it. I still use the jello and on occasion I still eat the SF/FF pudding mix because I like it. I enjoy having dessert and I feel these have less calories than some of the SS desserts. I still have to watch my calorie intake.

Hi Anne  hope your day at work wasn't too..too stressful and that you'll have a nice restful weekend.

Have a great Saturday
Aleka

P.S. I just went into SS website. There is a post there by MaryAnnT, and it's called I really feel like I have to say this. It's a very good read, very inspiring. I've copied and pasted it do read whenever I feel my enthusiasm lagging.

aleka 09-18-2004 10:40 AM

Nikki,
Sent you a PM.
