LCFS week of August 8th
Hi,
We've been having really nice weather these past couple of days, it's been in the 70's with no humidity. Last night we were invited to a cookout at our neighbor's brother's house, who doesn't live very far away. Had a good time. There were a lot of young people there. DH & I couldn't believe how much beer they consumed. I don't want to be them this morning. We did it too at that age and don't know how we did it. :?:  I'm on my way later this morning to meet a cousin for lunch. I'm going to miss our occasional lunches when we move. Hopefully we can get another one in before Sept. 20th. Did either of you happen to see this week's issue of Womans World? In there diet of the week some people lost weight by making small changes one step at a time. Here are some sites if you'd like to read up on it. It really sounds like a good strategy. www.smallstep.gov www.dietsimple.info Have a great day. Aleka |
Good morning,
I am having hot flashes and TOM at the same time. Is that just some kind of bad joke or what? I hate when I feel like this. I had a hot flash last night and for the first few minutes, I thought some thing was really wrong with me. Then I realized what was going on. I ordered a womens menopausal formula that has black cohosh and some other herbs in it that are suppose to be helpful. Of course, I still have soy every day. You'll have to excuse me if I ramble today, I'm not myself :dizzy: Or maybe, thinking back to some of my posts, I am  Aleka, the party sounds like fun. Glad you had a good time. Also, thank you for the links, I'll check them out in a little bit. I think making little changes really does help. Like last night, I made taco salads for supper. I just buy the regular taco shells and we crush them for the base of the salad. I only used 2 instead of 3 (La Tiara they are good and have 40 calories each) I decided to forget the sour cream and added extra salsa. Went easy on the cheese. That way, I had a regular taco salad, but because I made better choices, it was lower calorie. I think doing that with every thing will eventually make a big difference. Anne, hope your enjoying your vacation, when do you go back? Lynne, how are you doing? I better get off and get busy. Have a great weekend, Nikki |
Nikki,
Hot flashes??? All I can say is, WELCOME TO MY WORLD!!!!! :hot: :hot:   The only advice I have for you is to dress in layers, especially in the winter. The only time I welcome them is in the middle of winter and it's 40 below zero. When I'm living in FL where it's hot most of the time, I won't be able to tell the difference. :smug: I'm on the lowest dose of Premarin and still get them a few days a month. I heard somewhere that when you're in menopause they come right around your TOM. Have you read Suzanne's new book about women's health? I have it, but haven't read it yet. Her's is all about bioidentical hormone therapy. I do believe there is a chapter in her book for women who don't have the resources for specialists in that field or who live too far away to contact a specialist. Maybe when I get settled I'll read it. Aleka |
Hi Everyone:
Nikki, I go back tomorrow :stress: What can you do? I haven't had hot flashes yet.....but I am waiting for this any time now. Like I have said I am experiencing some irregularity in my cycles.....For the last 6 months they have been like clockwork again.....Its nuts :dizzy: Aleka, I love Womens World Magazine....Its excellent and I did read that article! Makes alot of sense to me.... Today we are back to summer. Its a lovely sunny day so I am not going to complain too much  The haunted house was in Conneticut (my mistake), I don't know what exact town it was in but what a story!!! In a nutshell.......The family moved in, the kids were seeing people in their rooms at night. The father was becoming increasingly annoyed with the oldest son (about 15 years old) thinking he was scaring his two younger siblings. A voice kept calling the 15 year old and he finally went to see who it was.....It was a demon. The boy was put in the hospital. At this point in time the parents too began to have weird experiences. The house had to have an exorcism done after much investigation by the Catholic Church. I'm telling you...I woke up in the night too scared to go to the bathroom. :yikes: They had the actual family on although their faces were blacked out so they could not be identified. There was several experts that had been to the house confirming their story. It was wild. It is called a haunting in Conneticut if you ever see it listed on Discovery Channel. Do either of you ever listen to Coast to Coast at night with Art Bell? Anne. |
Good evening,
Anne, I've had a couple of hot flashes and each time, I thought something was majorly wrong with me. I not only felt hot and was sweating, even though the fan was pointed right at me and it was in the 60's in the house, but I felt weird. Kind of disconnected. Aleka, is that what happens to you? I haven't read Suzannes book. I did read on the HSN boards that it would cost and arm and a leg to buy all the stuff she says to. After you read it, please let us know what you think about it. Anne, that show sounds very scarey. I have to use the bathroom several times a night, so maybe I shouldn't watch it  I do get scared at night though as it is. DH is at work and we live out here with no close neighbors. I still have really bad dreams sometimes and it's hard to sleep. Maybe I really shouldn't watch it. Hey, have you started Body Flex again yet? I feel so much better since starting back again. It might not be the most strenuous exercise a person can do, but it does make me feel like I'm making some progress. I better get off of here, DH is complaining he's a comuter widower, Nikki |
Happy Monday Morning All :p
Nikki, I have not started my body flex program yet. I really need to get back into it. I love the increased flexability and the face toning exercises and God knows I need it. I was counting how many weeks until Christmas in my calender if you would beleive it. I am going to buy a journal and record my food, exercise, moods etc. to try to get a handle on myself. I know I could feel alot better than I do it I would put some effort and organization into my schedule. Like Aleka was talking about yesterday little steps........ I can't beleive I am back at work. I am sitting at my desk shaking my head  Hi Aleka, weather here today is going to be hot. In the morning it is quite cool though, I still can't beleive we are nearly in the middle of August!!! Hope you all have a great day. Hi Lynn, hope all is going well with you and you are enjoying your summer. Anne. |
Hi!
ANNE, hopefully you'll be one of the fortunate ones that won't have any hot flashes. :crossed: I remember my mother telling me that she didn't go through a lot of stuff other women went through. I don't think I will watch that Discovery show either. It's way to scary for me. It sounds like a book I read 30 some-odd-years ago, The Amityville Horror, which supposedly was a true story. :yikes: :fr: nikki, I do get awfully hot when I'm having a hot flash, but don't recall ever feeling disconnected. Everyone experiences something different. I get really hot where I'm throwing the covers off, and if it's winter stripping down to my T/shirt. After the hot flash passes, I'm freezing, and sometimes covered with goosebumps. I think if I wasn't taking hormones, my hot flashes would be a lot worse than they are. I was talking with an acquaintence recently, who is a lot younger than I am, and has just started experiencing hot flashes. One time she felt kind of weird while shopping and had to stop for a bit until she felt better. She really didn't go into detail, so she could have felt disconnected like what you're experiencing. lynn, have you given the puppies away yet? If so, it must have been really hard for you. Hope you're having a good time at the campground this summer. Have a great day everyone. Aleka |
Hi,
Anne, I'm also counting till Christmas, but only to try to figure out how much longer I have to save for it. Or rather when I should start saving for it. We still have one more car to fix up and we have to buy tires for the convertible, so I'm thinking about just giving the kids some money. I know it's not a very good present, but when I buy presents, I get carried away and spend way too much. This way, it's a set amount and they can buy what they want at the after Christmas sales. I know it's kind of a let down for them though, they like to open presents. Wish I was a crafty person, I'd make something for them. Aleka, I got those goosebumps too afterward. The way I felt was like I had more blood rushing to my head, it seemed like I had tunnel vision and I couldn't hear as well. I was driving once when this happened and I thought I'd have to pull over. Maybe I should next time. I didnt' even know what the heck was going on. I read the Amtyville Horror and saw the movie. Remember when the Exorcist came out? We went to see that in a theater and it scared me for years afterward. I read the book when I was a teenager and it had first come out. Even worse that the movie, as far as being scarey. Oh brother, I hit some button and erased half of what I wrote. Well, I don't have time to do it again. Mostly all :blah: :blah: :blah: anyway  Talk to you all later, Nikki |
Good Morning Everyone:
Aleka, it was a very similar story yet different. In the Amtyville Horror there had been a murder that took place. This house had previously been a funeral parlour. They had the actual people being interviewed (faces blacked out) and a dramitization. It was awful!!! You know how when you are hearing people talk and deep down you just know they are telling the truth. Several of the "experts" that had equipment set up to register movement etc. were also interviewed many of them could not hack it and just left without completing their jobs. Scary Stuff!!! In one scene they showed the dad opening his electric bill which was right over the top. He was fuming mad and removed the lightbulbs from the boys room (they were keeping the lights on at night because they were afraid) Well, a noise woke the boys one night and it was their younger sister standing there laughing turning the lights on and off. (there are no lights) The one boy took after her in persuit and when he reached the living room his parents were sitting there. Of course they ask him why he is out of bed. He explains his sister keeps coming in flicking the lights on and off. The parents are furious!! She is upstairs asleep. What the heck is he trying to pull...... Soo.....this thing can also take the form of other family members..... :fr: I felt so sorry for the kids. Of course the parents eventually find out there is a problem in the house when the Mom gets attacked while taking a shower by some force she can not see :fr: Nikki, anytime know I will begin the process of starting to shop as I see deals. Problem in our house is the younger boys always want these darn nintendo games which are a fortune. Well, I survived the first day back at work. Lets see how I do today. Talk to you later. Anne. |
A very good morning to you,
We got a phone call yesterday from the guy who looked at DH's machines on Sat. He's coming to pick them up sometime later this morning. At least our major obstacle will be out of the way. Now we can get that area of the garage cleaned up and presentable again. My FIL would like to see them taking the machines out, so my IL's are driving up. Under normal circumstances I would love a visit, but the whole house is turned up side down, and I really don't have the time to entertain anyone. :headache: But, I should look at it as a day off from boxing stuff. ANNE, I think you and I were posting about the same time yesterday. How was your first day back at work? Hope it was a fairly easy one for you. I always hated going back to work after a vacation, maybe because I hated my job. ;) We had a very nice day yesterday, it was in the 70's with no humidity. Today it's supposed to be about the same temp, maybe a little higher, with the humidity started to creep back in. After reading that Woman's Day article about baby steps, I'm going to try and not eat anything when I'm not hungry, especially after supper. Nikki, the only thing I've thought about Christmas is that I'll be doing my shopping in FL where it won't feel like Christmas and that I'll have to mail a lot of my gifts this year. :( If you really don't like giving your DDs money, why don't you give them a gift card from the mall, their favorite music store, or their favorite clothing store? Last year a friend of mine gave me a gift card from Walmart and I absolutely loved it. I bought something that I wouldn't have ordinarily gotten myself. Sometimes you can find the cutest things to put the gift cards in and wrap them. Maybe you can also find something small and inexpensive to give them to unwrap. I had forgotten about the Exorcist. I read the book too and gave me nightmares. :fr: So I didn't see the movie. I won't even watch it when it's on TV. I also have read a few of Stephen King's books, The Shining, and Christine, to name a couple. I can't read them anymore, they scare me too much. Hope you have a good day. Aleka |
ANNE, I see we posted about the same time again today. We've got to stop meeting like this!!
Aleka |
Goodmorning All: I'm Back!!!!! I am sitting in my desk chair for the first time in 9 weeks. I put it away, didn't want to run over any little toes or bodies. Two of the pups are gone. I found them super homes and they are doing well. They both left on Friday so we are down to 1 pup and Mya. The puppie (Cooper) we will take to DD next week stay for 5 days than they will be on holidays for 3 weeks so can get Cooper used to them. He already knows them as they have been here every weekend for 8 streight. DH is looking forward to a weekend alone. We have had so many visitors looking at pups. We have not been anywere together for 9 weeks. Mya is almost back to normal. She is in the water at least 6 hours a day. I am crate training the pup and he is doing very weel. Yes I know I am the one that is trained not Cooper. Crate training is the only way to go. The crate becomes there safe place and they love to go in and than I know he isn't chewing on something he shouldn't!!!!!! I only close the door at night so he has to cry to get me up and take him out to go to the washroom. He will not go in his bed. During the day I take him out after every nap and havn't had a mess inside for a while. Yes I know I'm the one that is trained not the pup LOL. Well he is starting to stir so must go will read up on postings and now will be back daily to follow the conversations on a daily bases. I have missed you all. Till tomorrow

Good morning,
This weather is really weird. It's literally cold (it's 59, I know it's not really that cold, but it is a shock). I mean, this is August and it's Iowa for heaven's sake. It should be hotter than  and humid. I'm not complaining, but I'm really starting to wonder what in the heck is going on. I did the Total Gym yesterday and again today. Have done BF every morning and either some treadmill, gazelle or stationary bike everyday. I can already tell I'm feeling stronger. Had a back slide on eating last night. I had some toasted low cal bread with peanut butter and low sugar jelly. That tasted so good, I had 2 more pieces. At least, it wasnt a bag of chips or a dozen Krispy Kremes. I didn't lose any weight either this morning, so I'm more water. You know, I never realized how much water I wasn't drinking, until I started to keep track. I'm trying to drink at least 120 oz a day and it's been a real struggle to get that in. I still drink several cups of coffee a day too besides, so you can guess where I spend a lot of time  Today is DH's birthday and guess what, I forgot. Since he didn't do anything for mine or get me a card, I don't feel so bad. He reminded me last night when he went to work. He said he was going to stop and get a Krispy Kreme doughnut to celebrate his birthday and I thought, OMG, how could I just forget that? I offered to make him chocolate chip cookies for his birthday, but he says he'd rather not, since he's trying to eat healthier. We have no money to go out. He's over at his dad's today, putting in a new bathroom floor for him. I suppose when he's done, he'll go up town for a birthday beer and eveyone will buy him one, so he won't need any money to have a good time tonight. Better get a shower and get my day going, Nikki |
Hey Lynn, welcome home :grouphug:
We were posting at about the same time. That seems to be the thing to do today  That's great about the puppies. Sounds like you have a new grandchild (Cooper) It will be great that you can see all the pups so much afterward. So glad your back, Nikki |
Hi,
I'm up early. Had to let Lacee out, which is unusual for her. DH has been up since 2:00 am. He's all wound up with everything that is going on. The machines went out of here without a hitch. It didn't take them very long either. My IL's came up to see them go. I have to admit it was a treat to take some time off. ;) Back to the ole grind this morning. I got a pleasant surprise this morning. I decided to get on the scale, as I haven't been on it for a while and I've lost some weight, appx. 3 lbs. I thought I had possibly gained. lynn, WELCOME BACK!!!!! :high: :cheer: I really missed you. How do you feel now that the puppies are gone and how did Mya react when the puppies went home to their new families? It must seem rather quiet around your house now. Glad that Cooper's training is going well. Looking forward to hearing more from you. nikki, a happy belated birthday to your DH. :hb: I don't drink enough water either. I never think of it because I'm hardly ever thirsty. I usually drink a glass of ice coffee or diet soda in the afternoon. You're exercising is going well and you're getting :strong: I found these soups at Walmart, called Carb Focus. They are really good. We had the Southwest Creamy Chicken Soup the other day and it was delicious. If you like spicy foods, it was spicy. We also had a beef flavored soup, it was kind of greasy, but tasted good. I'm going to get some more this week. ANNE, that program does sound scary and I definitely don't want to watch it. Glad that you're first day back to work went well. Hope you're having a good week. We're supposed to be back into rainy weather today and it's supposed to last until Sunday. It seems more humid today than it has in a while. Yesterday was a perfect summer day. Today I'll be helping DH clean up the side of the garage the machines were on. Hope you all have a wonderful day. :balloons: Aleka |
Hi,
It's 54, windy and we have a beautiful clear sky. The high is only suppose to be 65. After today, they say it's suppose to start to warm up slowly. I was watering the flowers this morning and just about had to get a jacket. Being Iowa, they had a report on the news last night about how people (younger mostly) were staying inside, because it's so cold out. I thought you guys would get a kick out of that. I guess it's all relative. Like they said, when it's January and below zero, we will be wishing we had a high of 65. Aleka, I've tried all the Carb Focus and I think they are the best tasting canned soups I've ever eaten. I like the Philly Steak, is that the one you thought was kind of greasy? I think it might be a little heavy on the fat, but it sure is good. I've tried the Chicken Pot Pie and didn't care for that as much. The Southwestern soup that you were talking about is one of my favorites. It's more expensive than Cambells, but it sure tastes about a million times better to me. Besides, it's a real cheap lunch, supper or first course, if you figure how much it would cost to make it yourself. DH worked on his dad's bathroom floor all day yesterday and got home around 7pm. I'd made a chicken in the rotesserie and he was so happy. It was much more appreciated than a cake. I also made a salad and tried Kens Fat Free Rasberry and Walnut dressing on the salad. I was kind of wondering about that, but it was actually very good. Would be wonderful if you combined some strawberries, spinach and onions with it. Aleka, knowing my DH, he would have been up most of the night too. Probably Lacey can tell something is up and it's affecting her too. That's great about the weight loss :high: :balloons: :cheer: With all the hard work your doing, your getting an extra bonus out of it. Good for you! Anne, hope your week flys by and is over before you know it. Morning Lynn  Better go pick tomatoes. I must have a hundred of them out there this morning to pick. I'm going to make some sauce with some and just freeze some of them whole. Later, Nikki |
Hi,
We're having some really humid weather which makes it rather stuffy. We're also pop up showers and thunderstorms along with some sun. We may see part of TS Bonnie by Friday and possibly parts of hurricane Charlie by Sunday. Just what we need....more rain. ;) Nikki, glad that your DH's birthday dinner was a success. The chicken sounds really good. The salad dressing sounds very tasty. I'll have to try it. DH & I occasionally go to this restaurant where in the summer they offer this salad made with romaine lettuce, mandarian orange slices, sliced strawberries, blueberries (I think), and chopped walnuts. They pour fat-free poppyseed dressing over it. :T :T I haven't had the salad since last summer because both times we've been there this summer it was rather chilly and their homemade soup was in order. :?: :?: The soup I thought was greasy is Beef Fajita flavor. We went grocery shopping yesterday and I bought a couple of different flavors, Tuscan Tomato and Vegetable, along with 2 cans of Creamy Southwestern Chicken. They are the best soups I've ever had. I also found Carb Focus potato chip-like snacks. They're really good, but expensive. They cost about the same as regular potato chips, but there are only 3 servings in the bag. I am so glad that the low carb woe has taken flight with the food industry. Everything that I've seen that is lower in carbs seems to have better ingredients. In our area we have low carb hamburgh and hot dog rolls which are also lower in calories and are made with whole wheat flour. I've noticed Pepperidge Farm has come out with whole-wheat English Muffins and I'm sure the rest of them won't be far behind. Hi ANNE..lynn  Hope you both are doing ok. Have a good day everyone! Aleka |
Good morning,
Aleka, I'm glad that the low carb products are out there too. They are everywhere now, aren't they? They do seem to be made with better ingredients. I can't afford them as often as I'd like, but I figure the prices will come down eventually. I've tried the vegetable soup from Carb Focus and liked it. I saw those chips, but decided to pass. I could never eat just a serving, it would be the entire bag. I like Lays Baked chips too (I know lots of people don't. I do like them for some reason). I really like their baked tortilla chips, better than the regular. I think it's because they are so light, they don't hurt my teeth when I eat them. Sure hope those storms miss you. Our weather yesterday was the coldest ever recorded here. The official high was 64. Today, it's cool again, just 55 right now. It's so windy out there and there is no sun, so it feels colder than that. I have a long list of things to do today and still have to exercise, so I better get moving. Otherwise, I'll sit just sit here and before I know it, it'll be afternoon. Take care, Nikki |
Hi Everyone: Our Wallmart's are starting to carry a lot of low carb products. I am watching my calories and carb's now. I am trying to decide what to program I am going to do when I get back to Wasaga. I still can't get into Dr. Phil"s book, I over eat because I like food period. There is no reason so I am finding the book hard to read. I have been walking 3 miles a day. Our walk is a very hilly one, at one point we are walking up hill for 1/2 mile. It is a real work out. I havn't put any weight on so that is a plus. I have started taking recipes off the net again and made a mock lasagna using yellow squash in place of noodles. Ultra low fat cottage cheese blended smooth in place in place of the cheese and just a little parmasen cheese. It was so good!! it feels good to be back in my old routine before pups. We are going down to DD's and DS's next week to stay and catch up with family and friends. 8 weeks we have been unable to do much. We are looking forward to the break. Nikki, talking about temperatures our's are cool here and have been all summer. I have not had my air on yet this summer. Usually it has been on none stop since the middle of June. Aleka, Mya was ok with the pups leaving. The 2 families that the girls went to are here in the park so they used to come and visit them, even taking them to their trailers for 4 to 5 hours at a time after they were 6 weeks old. A lot of pups leave at 6 weeks but I wouldn't let them go then, I think Mya was getting fed up with them at the end. The pups have even been back for visits and it doesn't bother her. Cooper and Mya are playing together a lot now so they will miss each other when they are separated next week. They will see each other every few weeks so they will remember each other. Hi Anne, hope your summer is going well were you able to get away on your week off? Well must go and sit outside the sun is out and that doesn't happen much this summer. Talk to you tomorrow.

TGIF!!!
We're to get remnants of Bonnie during the day. It poured overnight. We're watching Hurricane Charley very..very closely because depending on where land fall is, the house we're in the process of buying may be right in the path. We've been in touch with the people who are selling the house. We really feel for them because they also have to worry about the house they're building. I don't know what we'll do if anything happens to either of the houses. Also, my girlfriend is in FL visiting her son, and I'm sure they've been evacuated, as her son lives not far from the Gulf. It figures...Friday the 13th :^: lynn, it was really good the way you gave the pups away, having the pups and the people get to know each other beforehand. I know when we first saw Lacee, the people were all set to give her to us that very day. But, we didn't feel that she was ready to be parted from her mother just then. I too couldn't finish Dr. Phil's book. I do have a fat paperback of his with his eating plan in it. Off hand, I can't remember the name of it, and it's packed in a box somewhere. Have you tried any of the Life Choice frozen dinners? They are very filling compared to other "diet" frozen dinners. nikki, I love Lays Baked Potato Chips and have them quite often when I have a sandwich at lunch. Usually what I do with chips is weigh out my portion then put the bag away, that way I'm not tempted to eat the whole bag. Those low carb chips were very good, and I did the same with them. Are you still having cool temps? It's awfully humid here, right now it's in the 60's with 100% humidity. So, it's stuffy. ANNE, well it's Friday and you can look forward to the weekend. Hope your first week back to work went well. Enjoy your day! Aleka |
Happy Friday All:
Well a few more hours and I made it through the week :dizzy: Today is a lovely cool day the kind I really enjoy. This seems to be the summer of the racoons. I can hardly go to work in the morning without running into a couple. A friend I work with has caught 16 this year and taken them to High Park which is relatively near her home in hopes of salvaging her grapes. :crossed:  still seems to be "off". She was away on Wednesday and when she returned she was in one heck of a horrible mood. We hardly see her anymore as she often locks herself in her office. We are all wondering what is wrong. Hope you all have a great day. Anne. |
Good morning :) :coffee:
Got to go to that reception tonight. I have a lot of things to do to get ready and it seems, no time to do it all. Speaking of Friday the 13th, I wonder why anyone would get married on this day. Aleka, you've got to be a bundle of nerves worrying about your house and the one they are building. I sure hope that storm peters out and everything is ok. At least your not in the process of moving down your belongs down there, if that's any consolation. I bought some more Life Choice dinners last night. I think my favorites are the beef tips and the sliced beef roast. I can't eat the chips, because even if I weigh them out, I haven't the will power not to eat the rest of the bag later. Or, maybe I just never grew up in that department. The word no has no meaning to my subconscious  Lynn, I couldn't finish Dr. Phils book even when I tried to read it the second time. I think your right. I have no deep emotional scars that are keeping me from losing weight. I think I just like food, I like to feel full and I'm a good cook. Like I said above, it could be I never really matured either. I can't seem to like him either, and that's a problem for me. Anne, you should be off soon, enjoy your weekend :D We are still having unusually cool weather here. It feels more like late fall and you really need a jacket. This has been wonderful really, since there are no lady beetles all over us. I hope they don't come back this year like last year. The sprint car nationals are going on and it's a mad house in town. They don't follow any rules of traffic, will pull out in front of you, I can't even remember how many times I almost hit one of them. Walk in front of your car with open cans of beer, seem to want to be treated like royality. I think that's what I don't like the most, they think they are better than everyone else and that the regular town people owe them something. I just wish they would go away. My yard gets full of garbage. Our towns population is 33,000 and it's not set up to handle 100,000 drunk race fans. They are camped all over, in yards, the street, parking lots are full. They have semi trailers set up with showers in them and lines of people standing outside, paying $5 each for a shower. They go in one end and come out the other... It looks like a big carnival, and it is one big party. It's over on Sunday, as long as it doesn't rain. I went to Walmart last night after the races started, to get some supplies. All the workers looked stunned and when I talked to them, they all said the same thing. They couldn't believe how rude those people are. I am sure glad we live outside of town. It always feel like a sanctuary when we leave town and get out here. My DD is spending the night tonight, so she can get away from her apartment, since she lives fairly close to the race track. Ok, I'll stop whining, I just had to vent :o Well, better get going. I'm making salsa today. We have been blessed with an abundance of tomatoes :D Take care, Nikki |
Yes Anne a lovely day, the kind I enjoy the most. DH is golfing today so the dogs and I are vegging. I havn't even walked today. Both dogs are on the bed behind me sleeping. They are having a lazy day also. Aleka I have the book you mentioned "The Ultimate Weight Solution Food Guide". I use it dailey for carbs and cal counting. We to are watching the storms in Florida, hope it isn't going to be as bad as they say. Nikki, I make a salad that uses mandarin oranges, baby spinach, red onions and the dressing is honey dejon. Very yummy!!!!! and simple. I have also used a mix of lettuces in place of the spinach. Hasn't this weather been nuts? Read a book yesterday, John Grisham's The Last Juror I really enjpyed it. Well on with my day. Time to take pup out. It has been 2 days and nights since he went in the trailer. Yes, I know it is me that is getting trained LOL. Hi Anne enjoy your weekend. Hi Nikki!!!! we were posting at the same time again. Until I read your post about Dr. Phil it didn't click in with me I DON'T LIKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!! I bet that is my problem. I HATE know it all's and he is the poster child of know it all's. That is my problem and I have just given up trying to read his book ever because it just isn't EVER going to happen. Thanks

Lynn,
I have to agree with you on that. He's arrogant and he just rubs me the wrong way. I've read most of John Grishams books and he's a great writer. I like that kind of writer, the kind that can make you really lose yourself in a book. I'll have to read the Last Juror for sure. I just haven't been into reading much lately. I'll be gone till Sunday, so have a great weekend everyone, Nikki |
A not so good Sat. morning,
DH & I are on pins and needles this morning. The eye of the hurricane went right through Port Charlotte, which is right over the line from where we are (were) planning on moving to. We're so worried about our RE agent and his wife, they live in Port Charlotte, which was just about leveled, we're worried about the people we were buying the house from, and my girlfriend who was visiting her son in the area, and was supposed to be in Orlando this weekend. We have no idea if the house we are (were) planning to buy is still standing. The worst hit is Punta Gorda, that is 2 towns away from where we were planning on living. We looked at a house there, met the family who lived in the house, and hope they're ok. I don't think we'll know anything for quite a few days. The only positive thing is, we didn't own the house yet. At one point we were supposed to pass papers Aug. 16th. lynn, I've never cared for Dr. Phil either. I bought his book to help me with emotional eating, but I'm not a big fan of self-help books so didn't finish it and don't think I ever will. I love John Grisham, and I will go buy his book on your recommendation. I tried to read his last one, The King of Tortes, and thought it was so boring, I stopped reading it. Have you read the one one he wrote about skipping Christmas? That was hilarious. nikki, have a safe trip and a good time. ANNE, we have racoons here too, but most of them are rabid. We usually feed the squirrells and have a feeder attatched to a tree in our back yard. Every night about dusk we would have a racoon sitting on the feeding getting its full. Have a good day. Aleka |
Hi,
Aleka, this must be driving you nuts. At least you haven't passed the papers yet, I thought you had. I saw on the Weather channel this morning how hard hit Fort Meyers was. I am sure hoping everything is ok. I'm really glad you haven't moved there yet. I'm sending you guys a PM about our trip. I better get busy with the laundry. It never ends. Nikki |
Hi!!! I have been watching CNN off and on since 4:30. Hope everyone you mentioned were spared to much greif Aleka, and it goes without saying your house. There are several people in the park with condo's and trailers in the Fort Myer area and are anxious to hear news. Nikki still laughing!!!!!!! how some poeple servive in this world are a mystery to me

Hi,
Nikki, I'm still laughing as I'm posting. :lol3: I've been watching CNN and FOX News all day, but no word of North Port. Punta Gorda, which took the brunt of Charley, is about 15 miles to the south of North Port, and Port Charlotte, which got hit very had too is the next town from North Port. I did get a call from my girlfriend who is visiting her son. I was sooooo relieved to hear from her. While she is there she is going to try to drive by the house that we're buying and let me know what the damage, if any, is. We have decided that if this deal does fall through, we're heading back down there to look for another house. Lynn, hope you hear from your friends in Ft Myers. Aleka |
I just knew getting married on Friday the 13th was a bad idea. The bride wore black and white and the wedding colors were black and blue (honest), how did they know? :o
