Day 2 and ready to quit !!!!!

Well it should be day 3 but the first day by 3 in the afternoon i was SO HUNGRY and craving carbs so bad , went to Dunkin and ate 9!!!! donuts !!
and I'm not even an over eater, just eat all the wrong things but that day....ughhhhhh I almost cried w/ pure pleasure as I munched away !!

Yesterday I did pretty good,(of course I slept till noon, just had NO energy to get out of bed ) but about lost my mind waiting for my Jello to jell, needed sweets SO BAD !! but I made it through....

Today, the sweet cravings are really bad again, I threw my car keys up in the Attic, so I couldn't go anywhere to get anything (will take me a month to find them)

I've been trying to talk myself out of Atkins all day, and I'm almost there !!!!!

There just isn't much you can eat !!! :( 20 carbs comes pretty fast, and a big ole piece of meat , makes me want to hurl.......even the thought of bacon and eggs which I have always loved, is turning my stomach :bomb:

I know they say by day 4 I'll feel better but right now

April I do not know what to say. I would just back down right now. do not go cold turkey like that you are feeling like you are depriving your self. do you do this with other diets that you have tried???

first start slowly for a week you are really having a hard time with this and if you are going crazy and think the meat and eggs will make you hurl you need to back off and not feel like this is such a chore. start slowly. and just cut out some of the carbs for a wek then the next doa bit more then the third go full bore. like some smokers it is the fear of going cold turkey that really hits the wrong spot. back off and slow down!!!

the other things is that the jello that you craved so much is triggering your sweet tooth. it is making your body think it is taking in sugar and then it is releasing a bought of insulin and well there you go into craving heck!! give this woe a good try and if it does not work then OK it is not for you. not everybody can feel comfortable eating this way but it seems to me that you would be doing this with any diet. (I do) so give this a shot. you will feel better.

Thanks Sue ,

I have never tried any other diet. I thought I'd have a harder time w/ the bread and potatoes, but I have these visions of chocolate cake,...lol

I just made a big bowl of Tuna Salad, the little bit of sweet relish is helping. the best thing is the whole bowl is like 7 carbs :) and eating it globbed on pork rinds, gives me that crunch I have been SO missing :)

I guess I'm just wondering what you can eat that TASTES good ...yes, you can fry things but WHAT ?? since you can't have the batter, YES, you can have butter but WHAT can you put it on........+ alot of the recipes you have to buy special products that I just don't have the money for......and I can't find something snack like to munch on

I would love to find 3 or 4 meals I LOVE, that I can have and I think I can make it through........I know it's not the traditional method but I'm going to do the Induction for the 2 weeks, then have a free day, then right back on Induction,..I know there will be some purists out there who will think this is a bad idea but I need the "reward" more than just weight loss.

What works best for you if the free day is what will work then go for it. BFL (body for life) gives you a free day every week that may be an idea for a while untill you get mor acustome to eating ths woe.

typical meals for me:

b- eggs any way. i soft boil 3 eggs and place it on a slice of peperage farms oat breat toasted hard with butter. sliced up and wolf it down going out the door.

there are things like faux rice pudding with cottage cheese and vanilla sweetener and cream and dash of cinamon.

faus cream of wheat with roiccotta cheese

lunch you just hit on one of my fav!! tuna on pork rindes next is tuna salad with cheese nuked till melt the cheese. and vola tuna caserole

dinner any meat with a huge pile of veggies make faux potatoes with cooked till much cauliflower and then add tons of butter you can mash them with a masher. but drain all the water out even squash it with a plate to get the extra!!! I will think if some really easy ones that I love!!!

April, Sorry to hear you're having such a hard time with this. I wish I had good advice to give you but I really stink at advice-giving. All I can say is you need to do what's right for you. I know it's hard changing the way you eat. Heck, I've been doing this for a little over a month and I'm STILL trying to make sure I stay on track!! Good luck!!

I can't help wondering if perhaps the Carbohydrate Addict's Diet might be the best one for you, Design. On CAD, you eat low carb all day but your evening meal is a "Reward Meal". You are allowed one hour to eat just about anything you want, including sweets. The theory is that it takes your body an hour to realize it's eating high carb foods so it doesn't get around to releasing all that insulin that can cause carb cravings to go on and on. Some of our regulars have done quite well on CAD and/or variations of it. It didn't work for me but it might be worth checking into.
Those carb cravings you're having are not all in your head. They are a result of withdrawal and can be a real bi*ch to deal with. If you don't want to try CAD, I can only agree with Nasus that you should wean yourself off the carbs gradually rather than going cold turkey. The most important thing when starting a low carb diet is to be prepared. Make sure you have lots of high protein foods prepared in advance so if you get an urge to eat, you have something at hand. Some days I roast a pork roast, a beef roast and a whole chicken together in a large roasting pan, carve them up and package them for quick meals and snacks. Some people like to have lots of hard cooked eggs on hand. Have your salad greens and veggies and dressing all ready to go. Try making Diet Revolution Rolls. It takes a bit of practice but they are a low carb substitute for having a sandwich. Check out some of the recipe boards, both here and at other low carb websites. Once you get past Induction, there are lots of interesting recipes to try, including low carb home made breads, pizzas, muffins, etc. There is no need to feel deprived.

Why don't you look into Sugarbusters? There is a good group of people on this site that do it, and its a good, easy to follow, moderate carb plan. Once you get through it, you might take a step farther down in carbs and try Atkins. My husband tried to do Atkins with me a few years ago and had a terrible time. He then tried Sugarbusters, and did it for almost a year, then tried Atkins again and found he was able to go much lower on carbs without the irritability and cravings of carb withdrawal. Just a thought...

April I found that taking the supplement L Glutime helps with the cravings.
My daughter was so sick on induction for over aweek.
She was even vomiting.
I on the other hand had a little headache.
She used to drink lots of juice and loved sweets and carbs and Didnt like meat
Make sure you drink LOTS of water also.
Hang in you dont have to eat a bunch of meat eat salmon aor tuna even canned crab ect,

Thanks Everyone !!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry I haven't answered your posts , on top of the cravings my DD and I have had the stomach flu...UGHHH, the good news is I sure didn't feel like sweets !!!, lol

I did go off plan for a day, so I could have soup and soda crackers, I don't know if it's just the remembrance of "Mom" giving it to you while you were ill, but it works for me :)

I'll look into all the suggestions, but I would really like to stick w/ this...there are alot of things I like that I can eat.....one of the best things you all recommended was having stuff on hand that I can eat, and that is ready to eat.........in a way I feel like I set myself up for failure, because I didn't have the money to stock up on foods I could have, so when I wanted something, it was easy to say "a bag of chips are .99 cents"...and chicken breast and other things are a lot more $$$$ .......

Thanks for all the GREAT advise !!!

Sorry to hear that you and DD were sick! Hope you're both over it and feeling yourself soon!

I don't follow Atkins but the C.A.D. so I really can't give you much on that woe but basic low carb should be the same, right? :crossed:

Breakfast doesn't have to be bacon and eggs. I guess that I'm fortunate because it doesn't matter to me if I have a hamburg patty or cheese/sge for breakfast. I try to keep hard boiled eggs on hand, sometimes I made a egg salad and roll it in letter leaves or occasional LC tortilla with salsa.

Lunch-I like my salads but will add some form of protein, tuna, egg, ham, chicken. But leftovers once again are good friends of mine, lol.

Dinner - is always a salad first. I eat most things the rest of the family eats but altho with CAD woe I could enjoy the potatoes or pasta I often opt not to just for the sake of calories.

We have switched to the sugar free breads, brown rice/pastas, etc.. They are a bit pricier but I try to spread it out and not make them as oftens. Usually once a week I make a big pot of soup with lots of veggies. There's some great recipe's on the LC recipe thread (the cheeseburger soup is great)
Also when those sweet cravings hit try to make sure you keep your sugar free jello/pudding, cool whip's etc. on hand.

Please don't get discouraged as with any change it's getting familiar with the plan and how to make it work for you!

Best of luck!

J
