new to site 2nd time low carbing

Hello all my name is Nasha. I am 56 and recently retired. I am a gramma with 5 grands. I have perused the posts here in Low Carb. I am not used to this type of forum but will get used to it. I lost 45 lbs. doing Atkins year before last and have gained back 1/2 of it. I am currently at 230. DD and I are both low carbing so that helps. We aren't going to follow Atkins this time but are looking at the "Life Without Bread" book. It looks like something we can LIVE with. We have the 500 Low Carb Recipes by Dana Carpender and it is so great. I am looking forward to getting to know you. And losing with you all.

I arthritis and asthma and am bad at working out. But my DIL and I are joining the gym on Monday and I will be able to work with a trainer to get just the right routine for me without overdoing.

Welcome to the Low Carb Forum, Nasha!

I'm currently on South Beach but hang out in here too. There are lots of great chickies in here and you will find tons of support and information.

Napa Valley, eh? Would you happen to have a spare bedroom? It's about -40F with the windchill here this morning and I'm thinking escape!

Greetings, Garnet. Nice to meet you.
The most important lesson about low carbing you've already learned. You MUST stick with it or the pounds come back on. Most of us who have chosen this woe (way of eating) realize that we can probably never go back to stuffing our faces with bread, pasta and potatoes.
I've tried just about all the low carb plans and have finally gone back to the original and, in my opinion, best one of all. That's the very first Atkins plan from 1972. It's simple, easy, and it works. Plus, there's no counting ANYTHING. You simply eat enough meat and fat to keep yourself satisfied plus you have two small salads per day. After a few weeks, you can start adding in 5 gr of carbs per week until you reach what he calls your CCL (Critical Carbohydrate Level). That's the point at which you've added enough carbs that you stop losing and go out of ketosis. Then you back up to the next lowest level of carbs and that's where you stay for life.
I'm 60 and don't exercise a lot but I do try to get to the local pool three times a week and do deep water jogging for about 45 min. I also do Body Flex (supposed to do it twice a day but I haven't done it for about a month). I really miss it and I'm determined to get back to it once I get over this darned cold. It's not physically demanding but it does help firm. It's all about deep breathing and resistance training. You should check it out.

Welcome Nash. I had been MIA for too long and well I am back. so We can go together in our journey. I am starting out back at the same weight as you almost. (but I am short)

No grand kids (thank god) But DH is also doing it with me for a while too. (who knows how long if he gets me up and running then I will finish it from there.

Hello Nasha, Hi ladies! I share a similiar story. I have returned to Atkins because it works, But I agree with LindaBC, gotta make it a way of life. I have lost 35 lbs from my highest weight. What has made then best difference is joining Curves. I lost 10 inches by going to Curves since Sept. 15th, 2003!!
I have some arthritis in my hips and shoulders, I am 47 years old and this exercise has helped. Makes me less stiff. Good luck on Atkins and keep us posted. Linda
