Angry Hi gang..Im back!!

Evening everyone!!
Well..I know it has been a long time since I posted last. I just wanted to keep you all up to date on my progress.
When I last talked to you all I was 225 pounds and Type 2 diabetic. I started eating low-carb and sugarbusters. I also started walking on a treadmill my husband bought me. As of today, I am walking 3 to 5 miles a day in the mornings. I have went down to 170 lbs!! I went to the doctor and all my blood sugars are normal now. I am now wearing a size 14 Jeans and Large shirts and I was wearing Size 2x shirts and 20 jeans! I think I look and feel better than I have in years. I did this all in 4 months!! Ladies and Gentlemen, Low-carb, Atkins, and Sugarbusters does work. Yes..I still have about 20 lbs to go but right now I feel the best I have in many years!
Good luck to all of you in your quest to look and feel your best!
Take care!
Christina

Great job Christina keep up the good work !! I'm type 1 diabetic and my blood sugars are doing great , and my insulin requirements have really gone down.I'm losing really slow, and with low blood sugars it's hard to stick with very low carbs everyday, but I just take it 1 day at a time. You can do it!!

Cristina, you've done an awesome job! You are an inspiration. You've improved your health and feel better too.

One of my co-workers on Atkins is also diabetic. I'm not sure what type though. At any rate after 3 weeks on Atkins he was able to stop taking his twice daily insulin shots. He still takes his pills but he feels so much better now. His weight loss is slow but he didn't have nearly as much to lose as I did. I know that plays a factor too. He's very pleased with how he's doing and says he'll eat the Atkins way forever.

My mom is diabetic but has refused to do Atkins. She recently learned that she has gout also. From what I understand, people with gout are not encouraged to do Atkins. I'm not sure of why. Does anyone know anything about Gout and Atkins?

Supersized your coworker is type 2 if he is on pills as well as insulin. Type 1 produces no insulin and the pills help the insulin the body makes work better. It's very confusing. Some people call type 1's juvenile diabetics allthough people of all ages can have their pancreas stop working.

Default Gout

Dateline did a weight loss special a few months back and the person who chose to do Atkins also had gout. He had to modify his diet, but was able to successfully lose a lot of weight. I checked the Atkins website and here's what it says about gout:

********

Can patients with high uric acid (gout) safely do Atkins? If so, how is the Atkins Nutritional Approach adjusted and will gout medication need to be changed?

Gout can be aggravated by the Atkins Nutritional ApproachTM. Modification usually requires slowing weight loss down to fewer than two pounds a week and taking 300 mg of the prescription drug Allopurinol. If the uric acid level remains low, Allopurinol may be tapered down and stopped after one month, both under a physician's care.

Thanks for the information girls. As always, y'all have come through for me. I'm gonna share this with my mom. She may come to live with me soon. I've told her that she WILL eat right when she moves in. I'm determined for her to live several more years. I just have to get her motivated. She's only 53 but has the health problems of an 80 year old.
