How long should I aim to be in ketosis?

  • I asked this on the FAQ board, but it doesn't seem to get a lot of traffic, so I'll give it a go here as well.

I know that I should aim to be in ketosis during induction and that it will take a few days to get there BUT - when I switch to ongoing weight loss, am I still trying to be in ketosis? Am I only adding in carbs as long as I stay in ketosis? I've checked the book and site and can't find an answer.

Also, on average, how long should I expect it to take to get into ketosis?

    Thanks!
  • I usually get into ketosis in about 3 days.

You can stay in ketosis as long as it takes to loose weight! When you add in carbs, being in ketosis is a way of measuring if you are still burning fat for energy.
