Avocado on Atkins Anyone?

I may be beating this carb vs net carb question to death - but I just need one more assurance.

You see, I was watching Martha Stewart this morning and one of her guests was making this crab salad served in the center of a halved avocado. And I thought, gee, I have a little seafood salad and a just ripe avocado in the fridge.

Then I went and entered it into my fitday count and it came up as 22 carbohydrates - 2 over my induction limit. THEN, i looked deeper into the nutritional labeling for it and it lists the avocado as 22.47 grams of carb and 15.2 grams of fiber. If I do the math that works out to 7.27 grams of net carbs. THAT is something I can plan for even on induction.

Am I right in this thinking or fooling myself somehow?

Thanks.

I'm not an expert on Atkins--this is only my second day. However, from everything I've read your total of 7 net carbs sounds right to me!

Good Luck!

I'm pretty sure the latest Atkins book says they're allowed on induction. I've really been enjoying half a small avocado diced into my salads these days. I'm not on Atkins but the South Beach Diet but they're very similar.

I was reading my Atkins book today (the last one he came out with) and it said that an avacado half is 5 carbs. He suggested that when you start phase 2 of your diet after induction and you are adding carbs in increments of 5 grams at a time that an avacado half would be a good choice.
