Boy oh boy! Just when I am trying so hard to get myself back on track, my intentions are to be fully back OP and to be back here posting again…. Wham! Sidetracked again! Anyone here ever have or heard of a “puffback”? Well, we had one on Monday – IN SPADES!!! The weather here had warmed up a bit, so dh (in his infinite wisdom – NOT!!!) shut the furnace 2 weeks ago. On Monday, he thought it was kind of chilly, so he turned the heat back on… uh oh! That turned out to be a majorly bad move………. About half hour later, a neighbor called to see if there was a fire in the house…. thick black smoke pouring out EVERYWHERE! When he went down to the basement to see what was going on – he couldn’t SEE ANYTHING! The place was full of black thick smoke. In order to make his way to a window, he had to put a coffee filter over his mouth and nose!!! Fortunately, he had shut the basement door (something he never does)) so it was pretty well contained, or so we thought………. but the night before, I had done 2 loads of laundry, and all of my clean uniforms were hanging in the basement, as were a dozen of hubby’s shirts!
Well, now to the mixed blessing part:
Yesterday, the insurance company sent a cleaning crew over to clean up the greasy black soot that covered everything in the basement. Turns out that the soot went all thru the house: wherever they touched a ceiling, they were able to draw (with a dry sponge!!) an “X”………….!!!!!! Now there is a cleaning crew of 5 people here for the next (at least!!) 3 – 4 days……… they are doing the whole, entire house, from top to bottom… the carpeting, the furniture, EVERYTHING .. in fact, they told me that I have to send all of my quilts, blankets, afghans, etc etc etc to the cleaners and the insurance will cover all of it! Oh well, I’ve been wanting to have a cleaning crew come in to give a “good spring clean” and then I could start with a regular cleaning person every other week or so……… I guess here’s my chance!! Ummmm, Ruth……. Do you think Gail would come down to Long Island?
As for anything else.......... here's to a day TRYING to get back OP - I wish I could figure out what's wrong and why it's so hard right now.......

Wow! What a mess! Nope Gail will not come down - she likes dirty houses so she can really see the contrast when she cleans! It's a good thing you have comprehensive insurance to help get over this disaster. ((Sonogranny))

Well, yesterday was not as planned except we did get out for lunch at a restaurant beside the lake - glorious day! Harry's BP was way up so the Doc did not remove the big growth. It's rescheduled for two more weeks. Apparently there will be a lot of bleeding so.... A few tiny growths did get removed so H. is not quite as lumpy although still grumpy! The good news is that my BP was 132/70 so I don't need to go on the monitor and then meds!

Today is definitely the Big Cut Day for the dress and jacket. The diningroom table is ready for action and I have everything I need right there. I am sort of pleased that today is not a gardening day so I can get right to it. (I really got very little gardening done this week although I meant to dig and package some plants for the mail. Oh well, next week.)

&:20 and I've not yet done my cruise through the boards and my Journal so I'm outta here.

Nice to see newbies and missing oldies posting. I was starting to wonder if we should discontinue the Daily - like that would shut us up!

Ruth, have fun sewing today and hey--it's going to be wonderful day so now's a good time after sewing to head out in the garden!

Today I am on house cleaning duty. Dh will be home by dinner time and let's just say that we (Miree and I) have been less than tidy while he's been gone (giggle) so we've got to clean up our mess. It's actually not that bad, just a bunch of laundry and I have to shampoo M's carpet (she spilled some really sticky juice in there and didn't tell me ) Other than than, kind of typical day.

Running some errands this morning and then lunch with the girls. The little guy's school is having a fund raiser and I put together a really cute fourth of July basket. I'd kind of like to keep it....guess I'll have to put a bid in on it. Gee....I COULD buy my own...what a concept!!!

Yes, I've had a puff-back. It was years ago when we were renting an old log house and it had a gravity-flow oil heater in the living room which heated the whole house (not a very big house). I was away for a week visiting my Dad who was dying of cancer and got a call from my hubby that I should head home right away. Silly me! I thought he just missed me and rushed to his side. Well, he had neglected to clean out the pipes that carried the soot-laden smoke from the heater across the bathroom and kitchen ceilings and when he opened the door one day, there was a loud boom and the door of the heater burst open and soot filled the house. THAT was why he wanted me home...to do the clean-up. I could have killed him.
Speaking of wanting to kill him...I nearly did again this morning. He hired a guy to make a wrought iron gate for our driveway. I didn't want a gate to begin with but he said it would be left open all the time anyhow (so why bother?). Well, the guy showed up with the gate this morning and I burst into tears right in front of him. I could have lived with the gate and I could have lived with the initials L and P that are on each side (for Linda and Peter), but there was no way on this Earth that I could abide the big black mountain peaks made of sheet metal that had been welded onto the top of each gate. I should mention here that a mountain peak is the symbol on our business cards and letterhead because our company name is Pinnacle Construction. I designed the logo myself some 30 years ago. Even if he'd made the mountain peaks out of open grillwork, I could have lived with it but these are huge, batlike things out of black sheet metal. People would think we had a witch's coven here or Batman!! I phoned Peter and told him that if those gates stayed, I was leaving and I was blubbering my head off. I've never seen anything so tasteless in my life. He said he was on his way home anyhow to work on an estimate with me and he'd see what all the fuss was about. By the time he got here I'd calmed down and we did the estimate and then I said we had to talk about those gates. He said he'd seen them as he came in and it wasn't what he had in mind at all, thank goodness. Whew, I really thought I was going to have to pack up my computer and leave and I didn't have a clue where I'd go. I'm so glad he agreed with me. This guy has trusted me to design our home, choose our furniture and room colours but he refused to listen to me when I told him I didn't want a gate (just one more thing needing opening and closing IMHO) and I definitely didn't want our company logo on the gate in any way, shape or form. Gosh, I feel all wrung out now.
I also haven't been OP again. Why is it I can only last a day or two and then I'm lured by goodies? Last night, I was at a reception and they had those little tea sandwiches that I haven't had in years so I really enjoyed them, PLUS several goodies from the lovely selection of squares and cookies and on top of that a slice of heavenly anniversary cake. Sheesh. My blood sugar must have been over the moon!
I don't know what I'd do without this forum so keep it running, ok, Ruth?

Why are Friday's so hectic? The a/c repairman came finally and filled our freon up, so it will hopefully be cool in here tomorrow. Then there was the Muffins for Mom day at dd's school this morning, she made me the most beautiful handprints and that little poem that makes me cry, so the teacher was hugging me. I'm such a softie! Anyway, work was he!! and I'm glad it's over for 2 days, at least.

As a side note, I think I need some toning exercises for my thighs, my tatto used to be 5 inches across and now it's more like 2, so you can stretch it into all sorts of interesting things! This is gross, it looked better when there was fat filling it up. Any ideas? Walking alone isn't helping it a bit.

Hi guys! I didn't mean to be so late posting. I've had two hellacious days. My drive way doesn't look like I should have the Batmobile parked in it, but it's been a bad day nonetheless!

My boss offered to host a regional meeting in our center. He tells me all we need are donuts, bagels and juice. No tables, nothing. Well I find out after he leaves for the day yesterday that we need snacks for 30 for 3 days, we need 3 seminar tables, we need a speaker table, we need afternoon snacks, we need tablecloths for these tables, we need individual packs of snack things and we need to move out a load of things so we can fit all this in our building. Did I mention that he is off until Monday, when the whole mess arrives? He didn't ask me to do a thing, and he should consider himself very lucky that I am self motivated, or we'd all look like idiots on Monday. I worked 11 hours and what did I wind up squeezing in for lunch? Hot dog and chips. Great.....
I did really well for dinner, but the bad part is this is a BAD weekend. We have a Mother's Day cookout-combo b-day party for my brother tomorrow. I will pass the corn and the potatoes, but will eat a piece of red velvet cake. On Sunday Cody will make me breakfast in bed and yes I will happily eat what he brings me. Rob will try and guide him as best he can, but if he thinks pineapple and jelly will make my tray the most beautiful, then that will have to go on...oh and for a long time I have said I am eating ice cream for Mother's Day. Now I will feel bad if I do it. I have to be careful. Snacks for next week is bagels, muffins, donuts...and guess who gets to buy them, serve them, etc? Wahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

Ok, enough whining. Time to snap out of it Jennifer! I'll make it. My life has been worse. Ok, off to bed so I can start the whole glorious process all over again tomorrow. Don't get me wrong, I love a fast hard day. I just don't like the fact that I have done all of this on my own initiative while the person paid to take this stress is out having a weekend with the family. I stepped down from that job 5 years ago for a reason. My sanity!
