Food logs
Would anybody be interested in logging daily food menus? I'd love to keep up with some fresh ideas! I haven't posted in a while...life is crazy trying to keep up with the site, work, family, etc. I have some serious catching up to do! I went back on low carb about 3 1/2 weeks ago. I am doing really well at it, and lost 8.5 pounds last month. I need to stay active on the board, and daily menus would be a good start for me. I'll start, please jump in and join me!
Friday: B Strawberry smoothie L roast beef, mustard and colby rollups, with cukes in vinegar D Bacon and eggs and tomato slices Coffee and cream Thursday: B Strawberry smoothie L egg salad on romaine hearts D grilled chicken smeared with sour cream and black olives, green beans, a few bites of carrots, salad and cukes and vinegar S 2 big handfuls of popcorn at the movies (planned cheat!) I'll be back on Saturday! ....... Did I say how much I missed you guys? |
Welcome Back Jennifer!!
sure, I'll join you Thurs. Breakfast, 2 scrambled eggs w/cheddar cheese Lunch, salmon patty and broccoslaw Supper, ooooooooh a big ole steak with mushrooms!! Snack, 1 cup peanuts Fri. Breakfast, 1/2 cup cottage cheese w/ cinn & splenda Lunch, salmon patty and broccoslaw Snack 1/4 cup cottage cheese w/cinn & splenda Supper, bbq'd burger w/feta cheese and 3 strips of bacon Late night snack....tried that cottage cheese and jello trick ....didnt like it :p lol Saturday.....going for groceries so Im not eating the same thing all the time lol |
What do you put in your broccoslaw? I bought some, but don't know what to mix it with yet.
|
I use miracle whip (if I cant use whip, then I dont want it) usually about a tablespoon to one serving from the bag, and a good shake of bacon bits. Hormel Brand. I find I dont need alot of whip, because it sits for a couple hours before I eat it, and the broccoli lets out some of its own moisture. Thats it....nothing fancy but its really good.
Saturday Breakfast, 2 eggs w/cheddar cheese Lunch, 3/4 cup cottage cheese w/berries and splenda Supper, 1.5lb porterhouse bbq'd with tons of mushrooms :D Snack, might be peanuts, Im not sure yet. |
Saturday!
Well today I hit my loss of 10 pounds, so tonight I had my victory dinner. I had planned on eating dessert too, but I didn't want it by the time I finished. I will wait and eat my dessert on Mothers Day. B Strawberry smoothie L peel and eat shrimp and chilli sauce D 2 small tamales, 1 chile rellenos, 1/2 taco, some beans and rice, chips and salsa!!! No time for snacks, worked outside in the yard all afternoon, and 6 hours after dinner, I'm still full! Victory dinner wasn't as fun as I thought it would be...I felt guilty! |
Can I join in? I have been following faithfully and I am not loseing this time....I think I know why...I had to have two epidural steroid injections..I gained weight with the first one....so I started my low carb before I had the second one....I wanted to make sure i didn't gain again!!! ;) I have a hard time doing Adkins induction diet because I get very, very constipated...(sorry)I just start like eating meat eggs and lost of veggies...that is usually enough to keep me really going and loseing weight....it just seems that since I had these steroid injections (in my spine) I definatly gained and now can't lose...I have been very vigialant on my diet. I have not knowingly ate anything bad....today I had scrambles eggs and sausage for breakfast,,,
beef weenies with colbyjack cheese in them for lunch and hamburger patties with salad for dinner....I have been eating simalar to that everyday. Not gaining (yet) but Not loseing...any suggestions? thanks so much!!! |
oh yes and after my hamburger pattie and salad tonight for dinner,,I had some strawberries and cool whip. That is AOK isn't it???
|
Yep, those steroids might be causing trouble. What kind of salad dressing are you eating? Check the label to make sure there aren't any sugars in it. If you are trying to do induction, then the strawberries are out. Otherwise, you can get by with a few each day. Cool whip is a no-no. Lots of sugar. You can whip your own cream by using heavy whipping cream in the dairy section, beat it good and add a couple of packs of Splenda. Better than cool whip!
Just be sure and read all the labels. If you aren't getting any sugars or starches, it is probably the epidurals. If you aren't sure if you are eating right, feel free to post here every day! Oh yeah, to aid that constipation, try and get some psyillium husk in. It is very high in fiber and will keep you 'going'! I put some in my smoothie each morning. You can probably sneak it in cottage cheese. |
thanks for the info Jennifer.....I think it is the steroids that are holding me up....I am not going to give up though.....
|
Hi Ladies--
Well, I was good all week on Induction-then we went to the amusement park yesterday-nothing lo-carb there at all! so I will start again on Monday and join you all! Jennifer--tell me what you put in your smoothie-I've been wanting a good recipe for one! TTFN-- Miss D. |
Sunday
Not too good as far as calorie count, I certainly didnt eat enough today. Breakfast/Lunch...3/4 cup cottage cheese w/ 3/4 cup mixed berries Supper...2 shish kabobs and large ceasar salad Snacks....4 strawberries |
Well Robin, I think I ate too much, so we balance each other out!
B Strawberry smoothie L fried eggs and deli ham, cottage cheese and a tomato slice D shrimp and scallops with mushroom alfredo sauce over zucchini ribbons. The problem with dinner was that it was probably more like 4 servings instead of two. I made it all of the top of my head (well I used canned alfredo sauce) and I thought it was right for two. I should have made a salad and had leftovers. However, I don't want leftovers of this stuff - the whole house STINKS! We've had the windows up and ceiling fans going for 3 hours and it still smells. I went to Walgreens a while ago and bought some Odor Neutralizer, that helps a bit...must be all the wood in my house, combined with no attic ventilation. I haven't cooked fish in ages, now I will have to blacklist scallops. :( Miss D, here is what is in my smoothie. The kefir and/or yogurt has carbs, but the plain is ok because the carbs eat themselves in yogurt... 1/2 cup cottage cheese 1/4ish cup of plain whole milk yogurt, or plain kefir 1 serving vanilla whey powder 2 tsp psyllium husk 7-8 drops liquid stevia Splash of Atkin's Stawberry syrup 3-4 frozen strawberries. Whirl and drink. :) Oh yeah - It is REALLY thick. You can thin it down with a little cream or water if you want. |
Jennifer, put a pot of water, with a many drops of real vanilla on the stove to boil. 1/2 hour to an hour......then walk the pot around the house to each room, stay in each room that stinks for a few seconds. This works every time to get the fish smell out of my house.

Monday
Breakfast, 1 cup of watermelon & one hard boiled egg
Lunch, broccoslaw and salmon patty Supper, going to try a new recipe for curried chicken (from the atkins site) and I'll put it over spaghetti squash. Snacks, if any will be cottage cheese and fruit. |
Can I join in? I really need some help with recipes, I seem at a loss of what to eat. I have recently begun low-carbing Atkins...it has been a struggle!
Anyways, I guess I will jump right in.. Monday (is that today??? yikes) B:scrambled eggs L: sliced cheese and some of those yummy little tomatoes D: steak about 1/2 c of green beans Snack: some more tomatoes They just tasted soooo good. I have been craving some veggies, and I have read the Atkins book, but I was wondering, is it ok to eat green beans. I looked on the package and it said that it was 5g of carbs per 3/4 c. So I figured that would be ok...what do you all think? And the tomatoes???? Ok, I admit, I need help. Caroline Looking forward to getting to know you all, please forgive me if I cannot get on every day...with 4 kids, and homeschooling ,iy iy iyyyyyy |
Hi all, I wanted to post my eats for yesterday and today....
Sunday B- omlette with onion, bellpepper, mushroom, ham and cheese sausage and bacon L- skipped (can you blame me? with that chow I had for breakfast?) D- boiled chicken legs, broccoli and salad Monday B- 2 fried eggs L- 3boiled chicken legs D- hamburger cabbage casserole (a meal in one) only 3 carbs per serving still have not lost anything....has to be the injections!!! |
Caroline, the beans are good for low carb, the tomatoes shouldn't be overdone though. They are higher carb - technically a fruit. Don't forget to take out the fiber of the beans, they are better than you think!
Whimsey, that is a good menu! Don't worry, your weight will drop off soon. How long will you have to take injections? Today - B bacon, eggs, cottage cheese S SF Jello L Strawberry smoothie S pistachios D chicken with sour cream sauce, green beans, a few bites of steamed carrots S popcorn. OUCH! My first slip in 3 weeks. Meaning, I hadn't planned on popcorn for a while. I got carried away at X-Men 2. Wow, that Wolverine is hot. Robin - thanks for the stinky advice! ;) |
I had one injection....one month later I had the second, Normally the third is 2 months later....however, I am doing so well he said he was not going to give me the third one till I called and told him I needed it!! Even though the injections wreak havok on my weight loss..... they have been a lifesaver for me. I could not walk before I had them. I was in constant horrible pain. Thank God for them!!! :D

Whimsey, your doing great, Im sure the shots are hindering you, but pls dont let that discourage you. If it wasnt for your way of eating, you would likely be watching the scale move up rather than staying put. Caroline...welcome :) |

|
my menu for today
(wish I could take it back) B 2 soft boiled eggs L salmon patty 1/2 potato w/butter and sour cream broco slaw Snack 1oz mixed nuts D 2 beef weenies /cheese brocolli I will do much better tomorrow. |
Today -
B bacon and eggs S sf jello and cottage cheese L stir fried chicken and veggies D smoothie I think the stir fry had MSG or corn starch in it, I feel 'swollen' tonight. |
why is it that carbs make you swell? I notice when I eat carbs I swell up something terrible!! I will feel bloated too. Why is that???....I have decided to go back on induction for a few days....maybe that will break this dead lock I am in and I think I need to clean my system...so to speak. That is always how induction makes me feel. :) I need to get that potato out of there:lol:
|
Well, eating mostly protein and fat has a diuretic effect, especially of you remember to drink water. When you eat carbs, the body starts hanging on to water again and you bloat. I get football feet and sausage fingers!
|
me too Ruth...I have a problem with swelling of my right foot and lower leg anyway.....that is the leg that they took the vein out of to replace the arteries in my heart. I have a problem buying shoes because of it. Eating low carb has helped that a lot!!
|
Wednesday
early morning snack (7am) 1 cup watermelon Breakfast 2 scrambled eggs w/mozza cheese Lunch, salmon patty and broccoslaw Snack, 3/4 cup cottage cheese w/mixed berries Supper, left over bbq chicken and cauliflower casserole Have a great OP day ladies! |
my menu for the day
B 2 fried eggs L hamburger pattie S boiled chicken leg D garlic roasted chicken salad |
Would you all like a weekly thread? Would starting over each Monday morning be ok? That will give us (and others needing help/ideas) a good stretch to scroll through for ideas without it getting unmanageable. If we get more people posting, maybe start it over sooner. Sound ok?
B Mocha smoothie L Grilled chicken salad S sf jello and some nuts D left over chicken with sour cream sauce, green beans S coffee and Atkin's bar Oh yeah - I love not cheating! The more I stay on plan, the more I stay on plan! I will be taken out to dinner for Mother's Day and will be fed breakfast in bed by my little boy (and it is sure to have some carbs) and I almost hate to eat it! I WANT to eat the stuff, but I don't want to...does that make any sense? |
well, I know what you mean...we are going to my daughters and she is going to have a crawfish boil....that means potatoes and corn too. A lot of trouble for her to go through and me not eat it. I'm not sure what I am going to do.
|
Oh, we're having something like that for dinner! My brothers and sisters are having a big Mothers Day thing at my Moms. Low Country Boil. Shrimp, sausage, potatoes and corn. Red Velvet Cake for dessert. What to do, what to do!
|
I think starting the thread over everyweek is a great idea....
I hope this is only a fluke but, when I woke up this morning I had pain down my left leg again...pray for me that it goes away....I can't have another injection for at least 2 months and I can't go through that again...I am just scared to death...I have a call into one of my doctors. I had gotten to the point that I couldn't walk without falling and the sciatica was the worst pain I had ever had. I can't go through that again....I don't know what I would do.....I am desparatly trying to avoid surgery.....surgery and spines don't mix well. (and it might not work) I tried to pull some weeds yesterday and I am hoping I just stirred my nerves up and this is just temporary!! good vibes and prayer will be greatly appreciated. |
I do send prayers and healing vibes your way, Whimsey. Don;t mean to butt in here but I was just wondering if you have ever visited a Chiropractor for your pain? I used to be dead set against them but was getting no help from anyone for my hip/leg pains after a car accident a few years previous. I was in pain sitting/laying/walking. Reg. docs found I had a couple squished discs and gave me injections which helped some but the pain and sciatica would come back at times. I was afraid to do anything (exercise, etc.) for fear it would bring the pain on. A year 1/2 ago I went to a recommended 'crack-a-back' doc and have been going regularly ever since! He fixed me right up. He can't fix the squished discs but he can take the preasure off of the nerves that cause the pain. Just a thought - I know some people feel strongly against Chiros, and yes, there are quacks just like there are dumb regular docs, but if it can help you to be pain free and avoid surgery then it would be worth checking out.
