Low Carb Headaches

Alright, chicas. I'm on day three of the South Beach diet (which is pretty much like every LC plan going), and I have had the infamous low carb headaches for all three days. Can anyone tell me when this ends? I did protein power about ten years ago, and I remember feeling really great -- euphoric even. But of course I can't remember the bad parts anymore.

And, a not nearly as important question -- does anyone ever feel like if they have to eat one more bite of meat they will just throw up right there on the spot?

I think it's really important to make your vegetables interesting and to include "crunch" in every meal.
Also, make a point of having your dessert and, when you finish the first two weeks, don't continue on with Phase I. Even if you only add one little thing (which is what's recommended anyhow), do begin to add more variety to your menus. I think it can make the difference between success and failure.
The author of South Beach is also quite clear about the importance of making notes of your reaction to the new carb additions...did they give you cravings for more carbs...did they make you gain weight or water?
I'm sorry if you're having headaches though. It's probably withdrawal and will ease up in a day or two.

Thanks Linda -- I will be on the lookout for variety asap. :)

I definitely had low-carb headaches when I started Atkins. They were constant but never got to the "lie down and die" stage. They lasted about three days and no problems since. Although my appetite came under control - hurray!, I didn't get a big boost of energy like I've heard of from other people. On the other hand, I was sick as a dog with acute sinusitus and related asthma so that may have had something to do with it

Hang in there!

Thanks Kim -- that makes me feel better since I am on day four. So far, no headache today. By the way -- do you notice that my cat seems to me *really* interested in your hamster? Ha ha.

Heh Heh! The hamster is definitely looking worried. Now if the cat would only take a little off the edges....

This is my first time on low carb (although certainly not my first diet - I wish) so hang in there. I found by the end of the first week, I really was forgetting to eat - an unheard of event!:cp:

Nicely done, Kim on forgetting to eat! I am feeling much better today. And not hungry at all, I might add. Fourteen lbs in a month? Color me impressed!

Wacky...since I started Atkins, cut out caffeine and started drinking a lot more water my headaches have completely gone away. I used to get migraines once or twice a week...haven't had one for a month or two!

That's great news, Sean! I myself have never had a migraine, and rarely have headaches at all. But, my low-carb headaches did go away after day 3. I now feel stupendous! (But don't expect me to cut out the caffiene any time soon. Oh, the horror!)
