I am just starting to include exercise to my daily routine. I have gotten the Walk Away The Pounds vidios. Has anyone else used these with good results?
Another question is I am on my feet for eight hours almost everyday. and I am constantly moving on my job, does this count towards exercise? What do the rest of you do for exercise?
Julieboo,
I did the walking away the pounds for about two months and never noticed a difference, so I sold the set of videos I had. Of course, I also tried tae bo and found it to be too easy so I sold those too, so go figure! My favorite exercise is the elliptical trainer at the gym. I havent been in forever though, and its really sad!
I work as a CNA (Patient Care Assistant) at a LTC home. I am on my feet 8 hours a day and lifting people who are dead weight at 250lbs. I count that as my weight lifting. Since Ive started working, Ive been noticing my definition in my arm muscles. I do a little something on top of working. I usually walk for 20 minutes on my treadmill here at home, but I would imagine, if you are working hard when on your feet youll be fine. A friend of mine gave me her pedometer one day to see how many steps I took during the day and yesterday it was 8569 steps. Pretty good for someone over 300lbs!
Ive been walking for about 3 yrs, and Ive literally walked off the extra rear I had Walking works for me, because I like it. I dont like going to the gym, or pulling out exercise tapes. So, if it works for you great, if not, try something else.
As for the being on your feet all day at work.....I had a job where I was at a dead run from the time I got to work, until I got home at night. It was an extremely busy and stressful job. I gained 40lbs there!!!! With the amount of lifting I did, you would think I would look like "Arnold Swart-hisface" So, depending on what your getting out of your job, you probably cant count it as exercise.
Since quitting my job, and living a fairly quiet life, with a 45 min walk almost every day, Ive lost the 40lbs. Go figure!
i'm dredging up some distant memory of something i read or that someone told me...
for exercise to work in weight control, it has to be at least 30 minutes of sustained constant movement. the stops and starts of a busy job don't really do it. think about it. if you're a nurse, you're running all day and probably don't sit down, but you go from one room to the next, stopping to take temps, give meds, talk to patients, so you're basically not walking or running.
wish it didn't work this way!!! by the time we've finished with our busy jobs, the last thing we really want to do is MORE MOVING!!!!!
and now for the second part of your question. and i'm really hanging my head in shame because this is the first time i've ever really sustained any form of exercise, and it's been out of desperation.
i'm at the gym just about every weekday morning, riding a bare minimum of 30 minutes on the bike to nowhere, doing intervals and sweating. i really try for 40-45 minutes, but i can't always fit it in.
and then i'm back at the gym every other night doing about 2 hours of weights.
and on the weekends, i hike with the dog. i try to fit in some swimming as well, but it really comes down to a choice of sleeping or swimming, and i've been choosing sleep. the gym is open all night during the week, so it doesn't matter if i leave there at midnight or later, but i DO have to get up in the morning and need more than 4-5 hours of sleep!!!
I dont know about any of you guys, but the moment I started working at the hospital I dropped 20lbs in a month. I also have no time to eat either, so that might have something to do with it.
Manda I gained 25 at the nursing home! it took me 9 months to gain it. NO it is not a baby!!!! It was from lack of eating proper and hitting the vending machines when i was hungry (chips) and hitting the fast foods when i got home too tired to cook. and stopping the exercise!! no time to get to the gym! No time to eat??? that also will take it's turn at killing your weight loss!1 just make sure that you do eat but keep it balanced.
I have the Walk Away the Pounds Tapes - I use them about 3x per week, I am doing the 2 mile walk - they are great to pop in when you have a free 30 minutes - they get my heart rate up I know that!!!
I just joined curves and I do the walk away the pounds videos. They worked great for my babysitter (went from a size 24 to a 16) I just started, so I will better be able to give advice in a month or so.
