Weekend, March 15 & 16

starting up:sssh: I know it's early, so I'll whisper, but the coffee's hot so get up!

Ruthxxx 03-15-2003 06:15 AM

Thanks, Dottie. I'm grabbing one while I potty the pooches. Back in a bit.

dottiejon 03-15-2003 06:23 AM

I got back from vacation during the week and have been trying to get caught up on posts. Boy, a lot happens here if you turn your back for one minute!

FL was beautiful, hot and sunny every day. I did some work and some play, a lot of just hanging around and reading, but the best part was I stayed OP- Atkins Induction- the whole time. I am so proud of myself! I have completed exactly 14 days. I am a little disappointed in the weight loss, but I think I have done this so many times, that I am just not going to get that big "start-up" loss you see in first-timers. But I am going to keep going, and see if next week is better.

Today will be a normal busy Saturday: bank, bring the car in for brakes, grocery store, cook for a dinner tomorrow and lunches for the week, and the laundry/cleaning stuff. But it's nice to be home.

I am meeting a real estate agent to see a couple of houses tomorrow. I'm excited but nervous, DH is going crazy. This is all too much for him. I think we'll find something, but we are not in a rush, so I will take my time.

I will go read some more back posts. I hope everyone is healthy, happy, and no one is wearing any CHICKEN CLOTHING today!

nice to see all the newbies! welcome!

:df:

a wedding? be careful, sherrie...you may have a bigger horde of us descending on you than you expect!

Ruthxxx 03-15-2003 06:45 AM

Hey! It's a nice day out there - above freezing! :)

Today the Big Melt may start. This happens every year when all the meadow snow and the cliff snow melt and run through our property to the culvert. When the culvert is blocked, we end up with a real lake in our side year. One year ducks came to swim in it! There may be a whole lot of digging going on over the next few days to get the culvert open.

Dottiejon, I'm glad you had a good break in Florida. Kudos to you for staying so OP! Good luck with the house hunting. It's good that you can take your time. Maybe DH's shock will have worn off a bit when you find the perfect place. (There's a nice little fixer-upper down by the lake for $60K! Long commute to work however!)

Feeling a bit poopy this morning but this too shall pass! I goofed and took my meds twice last night so...... I need to refill that night by night pill box! Later I hope to do some plastering in that blasted bathroom. Remind me never to do this again.

Tonight we go to a presentation on the History of Delta done by my Doctor Pal Bob. He is a real history buff and has all kinds of slides and old documents. This will either be interesting or boring but it's part of the United Church 175th so we will go. They'd better show up in 2011 when my church is 200! Do you think I'll be near goal then?

The dogs are fed and I'm coffeed. I have a whole mess of peameal bacon. Anybody up for breakfast?

debkay 03-15-2003 06:59 AM

Just stopping by to say hey. dottie glad you enjoyed your time in Florida and "way to go" on the 14 days on induction!!

I've been up way to long.......this blasted cough woke me up and instead of waking hubby up coughing......I was a nice wife and got up. He would do the same for me, he's a pretty good fella!

It's rainy today, so no working in the yard. Have a support group meeting this morning and maybe shopping this afternoon.

Have a good one all

tazcat 03-15-2003 08:22 AM

Just dropping in to say hi. Weekend off, so lots to do.
love Tazcat

jiffypop 03-15-2003 08:23 AM

welcome home dottie!!! glad you're all rested and relaxed and well fed... but wouldn't it be great to go to ruth's for breakfast?? all that nice peameal bacon [what we call canadian bacon].

not much going on around here. mom has a manicure. i'll be taking the dog hiking. and knitting class this afternoon, if they don't throw me out for being such a slug.

work sucks. we're moving in a couple of months, and the owner wants us all to go see the building. i have no interest in doing that, and he seems to be offended. he's already signed the lease, so what difference does my view make? he's just looking for validation of his decision., to hear everyone ooh and aah at his choice.

i told him that my surroundings don't matter that much to me that what's important is the people i'm working with and the work i do. and that i 've worked in penthouses in nyc and trailers in a parking lot, and it just wasn't important to me. and iu also told him that it cuts my commute in half, which makes me very very happy, so i think he's sort of OK with that.

so, do you think i could get fired over this? i hope? please????

gotta go get the mom moving,. it's amazing how willing she is to get up and go when she has a manicure, but not when she has exercise class!!!!

MamaJ 03-15-2003 08:47 AM

ageoldie 03-15-2003 11:03 AM

Welcome home Dottie. Have fun house hunting!!! I just made ole Alvin one happy guy yesterday. There's this house for sale that we pass by every now and then and we both just loved it and thought it would be perfect for us, until I found out the price. It's a little over 3x's what our current haouse appraises for! Anyway ole' Alvin immediately said forget it, but you know me, I couldn't let it rest. Yesterday I made an appointement to see the inside and I didn't like it !!! I knew it had an indoor swimming pool, but I expected it to be tastefully tucked into the back of the house. WRONG !!! Right in the big middle of the house!!! Family room on one side with glass walls looking to a tiny bandaid sized pool and the master bedroom on the other side of the pool (also with glass walls) and the dining room/kitchen at the end. NO thank you. Alvin is overjoyed!

Anyway I'm sneaking a few minutes here at work, so I* need to stop and get busy working!

Have a great day everyone.

Ruthxxx 03-15-2003 11:36 AM

Hey - wanna see some filthy pictures? - Just so you know I'm not kidding about the snow....
http://ca.geocities.com/ruthxxx/RuthSnaps.html

Lousy dog picture. I'll change it next time.

Pooky 03-15-2003 11:36 AM

Y-A-W-N!!! Stttttttttttttrrrrrrreeeeeeettttcccccccccccchhhhhh hh...I just woke up, can you tell? Actually, I've been awake about an hour but had myself a cappucino, a leisurely watch of TLC and the home improvement shows on and now I have to decide what to do today. I have till 4 pm to do it, that's when I leave to goto my uncle's house for my Mom's party. I have to take M afterall, dh has this training session thing to do for the night crew at work so he won't be going. The up-side of today? I get to see my brother, SIL, and nephew and I get my taxes done courtesy of my aunt the tax preparer. Now maybe she can find me some money!

Dottie, sounds like you had a wonderful vacation! I'm glad you're goingto take your time finding the right place to live, I promise it will be well worth it in the end :D

Ruth! We have ducks too! The back end of our property is very low down and is actually a quasi culvert for run off water from my neighbour's kitchen so the ducks nested there last year. However, with all this snow dh and I are worried we're going to flood right up. Oh yeah, and today is PLUS 7!! WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!

Deb, enjoy the shop! It's my usual sanity break! :D

Jiff, Your owner needs ego stroking? I'd be asking for some paycheck stroking!

Barb, we looked at a house before we bought this one that was totally out of our price range. We loved everything about it and we were sad that we just didn't have the money to buy it. About a month ago, dh came home with a HUGE smile on his face. Turns out one of the guys at his work lives near the new owners of the house. The biggest complaint he has is the amount of taxes he pays--$5000 a year! Now dh and I don't feel TOO bad we couldn't afford the house, even if we did the taxes alone would kill us!

Taz and Janice, find some time for yourselves today!

Have a good one everyone! :)

Ms Spotdog 03-15-2003 01:08 PM

Ruthie - Wow! Lots of snow! What a cutie Hershey is - and you too!!!! Very nice pics - thanks for sharing.

Ruth, please do not take your meds twice in the same night do not take your meds twice in the same night do not take your meds twice in the same night. Loved the pictures....hate the snow and YOU look MARVELOUS in that color blue!!!!!!

Dottie? how's Raul? where's Raul?

Hey to all!!!!

Dh took the big kid to the ER last night. Nasty case of bronchitis...poor thing he has eaten next to nothing the past couple of days.

So, that's my deal, taking care of the sick one!

later!

goodforme 03-15-2003 08:05 PM

I got a big fat rock! I got a big fat rock! I got a big fat rock!

Now, that's out of my system, I'm so glad. It's a modest 3/4 carat princess cut solitaire, and I love it. It has to be sized, but I get to wear it Tuesday, and wave it at all my friends and say neener neener!

Hope you're all having a wonderful weekend, I'm trying to find a late dinner. Talk to you tomorrow!

debkay 03-15-2003 08:34 PM

Oh Sherrie.........this is for you  Now, we want pictures.......pictures of you and the "man" and of course the ring.

Ruth, wow.......that's a lot of snow! And you are so cute!! And Miss Hershey is just a doll, where was Lucy?

Barb......they had a pool between the master bedroom and the family room? Sounds different.

Jiff glad your new office location is closer to home. One of the many things I hated about working......the commute.

Janice how are you feeling?

I went to my support group meeting today. They wanted me to come up and spill my tale of complications from surgery. The leaders want to let all the new pre-ops know that complications can and do happen. I wasn't really prepared for it, but I think I did okay.

Leenie 03-15-2003 08:38 PM

Hey Ladies,

Nothing much new here. Took the :bb: out to play in the slush, the temperatures today were awesome, makes you really feel like spring could possibly be near. Hurry up and melt you @)&%$% snow.

Tomorrow is heavy cleaning day...........ICK but if I don't do it nobody will.

Have a great weekend EVERYONE !!!

Leenie

Ruthxxx 03-16-2003 06:14 AM

Did absolutely nothing yesterday except run to the can, lie on the bed reading and napping, cruising the net and playing Spider Solitaire. AND I DON'T feel guilty. I even skipped Bob's presentation last night!

All is well this morning and it's going to be a springy day so I'm up and at it. Church this a.m. and then we will shovel off the back deck because the woodstove comes tomorrow. Lucy and I are off to show handling this afternoon.

Western omelet, anyone? We got nice fresh eggs from the farm yesterday.

Happy Sunday!

Pooky 03-16-2003 07:45 AM

That omelette sounds divine Ruth, pass it over!

The party was very nice, everyone behaved themselves except for the slip on my grandma's part when explaining to my mom why she isn't getting a birthday present. I brought an end to that very quickly. My grandma has an acid tongue to her family yet to friends and strangers, she's as meek as a kitten. Go figure?!?! Party finished with M being thoroughly tuckered out so off we went home at around 8:30.

Today is all about the laundry--'nuff said!

Have a restful day chickies!

jiffypop 03-16-2003 07:48 AM

well, ruth. after yesterday's quiet day, no wonder you're up so bright and early!!!! hope you're feeling better...

have the first of 3-4 loads of laundry in. have to face mom's weekly science fair projects in the refrigerator. i guess i should be grateful that she at least TRIED to eat something...

someone told me that trader joe's had peanut butter filled pretzels. they sounded really good, so i went over there yesterday. nope. not for me!!! 160 calories for 22 or so little pillows [looks like it's about 1/2 cup], 22 grams of carbs, and only 2 grams of protein! not a food source for me.. not even a snack.

but they did have these whole grain soy pretzels, about as long as a pretzel thin and about as wide as 4 of them. extremely crunchy, which is a good thing [can you tell i bought them???]

7 of them have 110 calories, 16 grams carbs, and 8 grams of protein. much better choice,. and i was full after 3 of them!!! oh and they are made with whole wheat flour and some oat bran.

isn't it sad when the high point of your day is a new pretzel????

planning on a quiet day: hiking with that dog, laundry, groceries, some internet research, dinner out with mom. knitting. anyone want to come along?

have a great day, ladies. and dottie.. so glad you're back.

Ruthxxx 03-16-2003 08:02 AM

Gee, Jiff, a new pretzel sounds pretty exciting to me. Not much happens in Delta, you know!

dottiejon 03-16-2003 10:39 AM

well, that pretzel sounds like a real thrill to me. I am not a pretzel person, but DH will love it- thanks, Jiff:)

for today, I have baked a bundt cake for dinner with the family tonight, and put in a pan of baked ziti for DH, who won't eat corned beef and cabbage. So, sort of an Italian/Irish dinner tonight!

Not much else, it's all about buying a new house. DH is being very difficult about this. The man can take the fun out of anything. It is not so much the money, but he just needs to PROCESS everything and get into Relationship Struggles over everthing! Anyone want a sensitive, emotional big talker? Rigid, unyielding, selfish. High maintence. Sort of cute, but sometimes not worth the upkeep. So, I am looking at some houses this afternoon, I don't even want him to come because he's going to complain all day. My joke with my sister is that I'll get the new house, and one day just tell him, "no honey, just take a left here, and pull into that 3rd driveway on the right. That's our new house, yes, the blue one. See, here's your bike in the garage. Here's your free weights, and your stairmaster, and here's your desk..." It would be easier just to do it myself and move us in!

I am still OP after 15 days, pork chops, sf cheese cake, burgers galore. I did the big bowl of salad thing, so I can just grab some quick. I don't see a big loss, but I'm going to keep trying.

Well, time to face up to the laundry- I'm putting it off, but I really must wear underwear to work tomorrow!

be good, chickens
dottie :df:

debkay 03-16-2003 11:35 AM

dottie  the old saying "just do it" comes to mind, tell him later........or as your sister said, give him directions later.

Leenie 03-16-2003 12:35 PM

Jiff, I love TJ's pnut butter pretzles, i've been known to polish off a bag at one sitting.......yes  Thats why I don't get them anymore, they are to good.

TJ's is a cool store.

scooby2 03-16-2003 01:45 PM

:)

Good SUnday Afternoon to all!!! I have almost a weeks worht of posts to catch up on so I better get busy -

GOOD NEWS!!!!!

I spent the week in Dallas and stayed completely OP!!!!! I had one beer at the cocktail party and it was a MIchelob Ultra with 3 carbs!!! I am way too proud of myself and can't wait to weigh in on Wednesday!!! I missed this week being out of town!!!:D

NOt much else here trying to get the house straightened up but it seems that 2 little munchkins follow we around and destroy my progress!!!!

The weather has sure been nice here this weekend 75 and sunny yesterday and about 70 with clouds today!!! Iwill take it!

Have a great day!!

LindaBC 03-16-2003 06:40 PM

Congratulations, Sherrie. Wow! 3/4 carat is a good size rock.
Ruth, hope you're feeling better. You sure look great in that photo. Your hair sure has grown since I saw you in November. I could only see the top two pix tho. Not sure what the problem might be.
I've been on such a carb binge I just can't stand myself. Obviously I can't be trusted on WW anymore. Why is it some people can be satisfied with "just a taste" of something yummy and I have to eat the whole tub of chocolate frosting? Oops...I guess I let the cat out of the bag. :o Shame on me! I wont even mention the apple pie I baked for Peter (even though he prefers puddings of all kinds to pie). I just don't know what to do with myself. I can feel the pounds creeping rapidly back on. Wondering what the heck is wrong with me. :?:
Dottie, good luck finding the dream house that both you and dh will love. It's just around the corner waiting to be found, y'know.
Scooby, congrats on staying OP while on vacation.
Peachy, sorry about your child having bronchitis. Sometimes I think it's easier to be sick myself than have to look after somebody else.
Well, that's it for me today. Have a nice Sunday evening, Chicks.

nasus40 03-16-2003 08:03 PM

Hi all!

Just finished 3 days on my feet sore and hurting I had only a few injuries (torn rotator cuff and dislocated shoulder)and relatively nothing for accidnets few stubed toes and a few scrapes) with over 1100 kids and 3000 entries with all the parents and siblings. one lost 8 year old (did not leave the building when mom sent her out ahead of her by just one min) and one stolen cooler (taken from under my care by the owner when i was not looking and she did not tell me I almost had the security after her) a set of lost keys for the car (Sweat shirt was stolen but the keys turned up on the ground in the parking lot!)and a few minor things but all in all not much just a bunch of tension adn flaring tempers and well lots of screaming and a few state records broke for the kids 3 in total. a few kids qualified for nationals. What a great job and well the kids did their best and the folks that planned this did a great job. !!

as for me I am exhausted friday it was untill 10 pm form 3. saturday it was 7 am till 10 pm and today it was again 7 am till almost 8 pm. so a long weekend and not OP at all. i will rest and start fresh!!!

Sherry what a rock!!! you will need a crane to carry that hand around!!! I will help!! ;) congrats!!

Jiff the closer sounds better

Ruth the picts looks greaat!!

And I am sorry who ever else i missed I am tired and headding to bed!!!
