I'm Sad This Afternoon!
 

Morna called me just now to tell me that two of Hershey's puppies died! They were just a week old but had not gained any weight since birth. The vet said there was nothing the matter with their hearts and lungs but they had just failed to thrive. So very sad to think of the wee ones dying so soon but I guess it was just not meant to be.

Morna and her husband John have been up nights bottle feeding them and are just exhausted. She did not want to tell me because she knew I could not help! What a good friend!

I'm going to have a little cry and then a nap. :(

oh ruth. i'm so sorry... how is hershey taking this??

I hate to hear about animals dying, especially puppies and kittens or other babies. How sad!! Please mourn as long as you want to. We are thinking of you.

Oh Ruth...... I am soo sorry, for both you AND Hershey! I absolutely agree with Jif's advice! (of course, if you don't want the scotch as a chaser, how about using it IN the tea instead of sweetener???)

Hershey is fine and very busy caring for the remaining seven VERY HEALTHY puppies. I spoke to her over the phone and she licked the receiver - no kidding!

Morna says she is an excellent mother and tried to get the poor wee pups to nurse. Sometimes a ***** will reject sickly pups but not our Hersh! She is still pretty darn plump but is hoping to get her girlish figure back by the time the pups are weaned. There appears to be absolutely nothing wrong with the rest of the litter. Once their eyes are open, we will get some pictures. Tea with Scotch? Maybe later.

I'm so sorry but glad that Hershey is the wonderful mother she is. And that Morna didn't want to bother you with it! A special friend indeed.

I vote for chasing the smooth scotch with a soothing nightie nite tea!

Ruthie - So sorry about those little dears. I will say a special prayer for them tonight.

I can mourn with you Ruth. I was notifed 2 weeks late of a sweet baby that i took care of., 3 years old and passed in his sleep. he was terrible frail i mourn it but also thank god his suffering is over. so lets cry together.
