metamucil?

My husband HAS to take metamucil and can't stand the sugar free......Is this going to mess up his low carb eating plan?......

Ruthxxx 11-25-2002 08:35 AM

Yes - he will have to count the carbs as part of his plan. How about getting the sugar-free and adding Splenda?
What plan is he following?

I think I saw an ad in a magazine for Metamucil that's now in tablet form . Maybe worth looking at your local pharmacy.

You might also want to look into Flax seed. I have never tried this but I've heard it works well.

Magnesium supp. also work. I learned that one the hard way. ;)

Hi TigerLilly

you can get psyllium husk in caplets......much easier to take than metamucil.

If something like walnuts has lower carbs and he can handle those carbs, then that might be an answer. I count, but use walnuts or almonds this way occasionally. I also have a cup of strawberries and blueberries (fresh or frozen blended) to keep regular.... almost no carbs, esp for a lot of guys. I like the tablet idea too!

I read somewhere that you could substract the carbohydrate fiber number from the total carb number and THAT would be your carb number in the case of fiber.....is this wrong?:s:

What plan is he on? Some allow it and some don't.

tigerliley 11-25-2002 08:01 PM

More or less Atkins... He is not eating any sugar, flour, pasta, potato's or like veggies, etc.....I am doing the cooking and helping him with it...... I found a couple of good low carb sites thanks to these pages.......

Ruthxxx 11-25-2002 09:36 PM

Well, in that case, I'd subtract the fibre from the carbs. There's a bit of controversy over this "net carb" thing but I like it because you get a bit more leeway.

thanks....he will be glad to hear that because nothing else will do....Happy Thanksgiving to all of you..........
