I am off to NY today for my grandmother's memorial service. A quickie as I am back tomorrow.
I have had a cold all weekend, I am feeling much better today but I need to get some Sudafed or alike before I fly this morning.

Indian summer too, We will be in the low 70's today. I read all your post this weekend although I never really got out of bed for long.

Off to get the kids up as DH will take them to school and pick them up. I need to get dressed to go and then I am out of here. Have a good day ladies and I hope it is OP for all of you.

  • Morning Ladies,

Nuttin new here. Had a nice weekend, and I am sorry it is over. I have a busy week with 3 cake jobs to do. I have not had a job in a month, and now I have 3 in one week. It is a real test of my low carb strength, but I have been able to do loads of baking lately without temptation. Hope it holds up.

Sue ~ glad you are getting your exercise in today, it is the best way to start the day.

L ~ So sorry about your grandmother, I guess I missed it. Have a safe trip, thoughts and prayers are with you.

Annie ~ my thoughts and prayers are also with you, hope your mom is recovering, let us know how she is doing.

MamaJ ~ hope with each passing day you begin to feel better.

    wishing all a lc day!
  • Good morning, Chicklettes.

Remembrance Day here/Veterans' Day in the USA. Yesterday in Church, Kathleen read "In Flanders Fields" and we all puddled up. Sad month and sad day. And it always seems to rain on November 11!

I have a major task this morning. I discovered last night that mice have been into my baking cupboard! I thought I'd been hearing little noises in there at night when I drink my tea and wait for the Girls to come in from that last potty trip! It's a good thing I have not yet stocked up for my Christmas baking! So...time to set traps which I hate. (Some folks use Warfarin to get rid of the critters but dogs love to eat Warfarin - a friend of mine was completely devastated when her 5 month old puppy died from eating it. )

Lucy aka The Graduate completely destroyed her bed cushion yesterday afternoon while I was napping. On rainy days she has too much excess energy! She now is sleeping on a wool blanket with her baby blanket added! Sheesh! The annoying thing is that DH was sitting three feet from her watching golf while she undertook her demolition project!

Sue, I am going to start more regularly with the Fly Lady routines. I do seem to get far behind and know I function better with an orderly house. Yes, getting in control of one part of life is a great incentive.

DonDar - you do cakes? Hmmmmmm. How on earth do you manage not to lick fingers? I am OK until I take one taste and then I'm hooked. Talk about carb addiction.

L144S, you kind of threw me when you said fly to NY - I always think Boston and NYC are so close to each other. Just realized today, I've been thinking of NYC and Philly. I hope the ceremony for your grandmother goes well - memorial services are sad but also a celebration of life.

Well, off to tackle the mouse mess. Later this morning I will be going to the Office to show the new Treasurer some of the job. She has no idea how much is involved! She thinks an hour a week will suffice!

And hey - Chick Meet in The Garden State in May! Lots of notice to start saving our pennies.
  • All I have to say is--it's Monday. And it's Remembrance Day. I got up 3 times for doggie potty call, and woke up with 15 minutes to get out of the house. Get to the daycare and they are short staffed so I stay to pick up the slack. Raining so the poor kids out at the cenotaph are going to get soaked--I see the cadets have set up a tent which is a good thing.

My grandfather died November 9th and was buried today at 11am. It was a fitting end for a man who served his country (England) well. He was a member of the British Special Forces and was on the beaches of Normandy for D-Day. He was lucky to live. He lived a long and happy life and had 3 sons with a woman he adored. Most of all, I adored him and every Remembrance day I think of him and what he was to me and to so many others. he died of lung cancer (smoking) 19 years ago. Of all the regrets I have had it wasn't telling him how much I really loved him. So here I am today sending up my prayers of love and missing him so very much. Please remember our heroes today--my grandpa was mine

Hope you all have a great day.
  • Good morning glories!

Another beautiful day in Houston. There's so much soggy, muddy ground that another week of this sunshine just might dry us up!

L~I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother. I agree with Ruth, that memorial services also show a celebration of the life enjoyed. Hugs to you.

Jenny~Wish you were closer - I'd order two cakes from you this past week too! DS turned 19 on the 7th and DS turns 31 today! And they've come to expect homemade cakes!

Sue~How're things going with your exchange student? Glad to hear your DD is doing so well.

Ruthie~Mice in the cupboard? How old is Lucy now? Break that new treasurer in slowly - otherwise you might scare her off!

Same ol' same ol' here. I spent the weekend slowly getting three weeks worth of laundry and other fly lady stuff caught up. I'm still not up to scrubbing shower walls but it's much more livable now!

My left breast seems extremely tender this morning. After all I've been thru I'm concerned and will call the doctors office again this morning. I have an appointment for tomorrow but I know how things deteriorated quickly last weekend and afraid to take a chance.

If there's no trip to the doc today I need to work on more flylady stuff and tons of filing. Wish I was up to doing yard work. It's going to be such a beautiful day and my yard is horrible!

    Have a good one chickies!

You snuck in on me Pooky!
  • Well I never made it! Can you believe it... I couldn't get to NY!!! 2 flights cancelled and the third delayed past making it to the service. Plus I wan't dressed for the service either so I needed to change. The Parade in NYC has caused traffic problems to boot. I think the tell tale sign for me was being seated in row 13. my luck has been so bad lately that that was the topper!
So I am home again and wishing I had made it.

my friend sent me this and it made me laugh...i needed it.

A saleswoman is driving toward home in Northern Arizona when she sees a Navajo woman hitchhiking. Because the trip had been long and quiet, she stops the car and the Navajo woman climbs in. During their small talk, the Navajo woman glances surreptitiously at a brown bag on the front seat between them.
"If you're wondering what's in the bag," offers the saleswoman, "it's a bottle of wine. I got it for my husband."
The Navajo woman is silent for awhile, nods several times and says, "Good trade."
  • ROTFLMAO! Good one L.
Pooky, what a lovely tribute to your grandfather. I'm sure he knows how much you admired him and miss him still.
MammaJ, take it easy on that poor boob, k? We want you well again.
Ruthie having suffered field mice in my kitchen for three winters in a row before finally (I HOPE) eradicating them and sealing their entry, I understand exactly what you're going through. I used to hear the pitter patter of little feet late at night and catch them dancing on my stovetop. One night the sound of loud crunching kept me awake all night. The little blighter was in my closet and had munched through a thick paper bag, a cardboard box AND a heavy plastic container to get to the mixed nuts that had been wrapped as a Christmas gift. I just can't get over Harry not noticing the dog chewing her bed to bits. Too bad she can't be trained to hunt mice!
Sorry about cancelled flights. Drooling over decorated cakes. Can't even bear to think of all the drawers that need cleaning in my house and Christmas shopping ....well, I really need a firm nudge in that regard. I do think I have a good idea for SIL. He loves to read but, being from South Africa, he probably hasn't read too much about the Canadian northwest. There's a series of books by Richard Hobson about ranching life in the 1930s and 40s near Vanderhoof (northwestern British Columbia) and a movie was even made based on the books Grass Beyond the Mountains, Nothing Too Good For A Cowboy and The Rancher Takes a Wife, so I'm hoping he might enjoy getting the set. I saw it recently somewhere and now I just have to remember where. #2 daughter wants some short nightgowns and they both really need money to continue renovations on their little old townhouse in Edinburgh. So, at least I have some idea of gifts. My own DH is impossible to buy for. Every gift I ever got him other than underwear and sox has been put to one side and never used or he's given them away. So, I'm totally stumped.
Trying to stay totally OP this week so I'm writing everything in a food journal. I don't know about you guys, but it's so easy to kid myself that the extra handful of nuts just didn't get past my lips. If I write it down, I'm accountable.
  • I like the Good Trade!!!!!!!

So sorry about your Grandmother, L and your Grandfather, Pooky!

You gals with the wicked weather are in my thoughts too!!!! YOWSER!!!!!

Just running around here. A trip to Kohls...new throw pillows and a quilted throw blanket (you thought I was kidding, Sherrie?) Mom bought Jiff a present for Christmas!!! Wonder if she'll remember....gee Jiff, I like it!

Met with the big kid's orthodontist.....that was fun Juggled phone calls between the school psychologist and the psychiatrist (I think they are both a bit nuts! Good thing that I am not the one being evaluated!) and the little guy's teacher .....who is sane and rational.

To you gals who are new...or relatively new...please note that the invitation to become a Jersey Girl in the month of May is for you too!!!! You may not feel like you know us well enough, but by May, perhaps, maybe you would like to join us. You are more than welcome to!!!!!

Dh is out on a job interview...it is really nice to have the house to myself during the day.

I am going to scoot, before I really start to digress.

Food is ok today, was reasonable yesterday and the Halloween candy was thrown out by dh... what a relief!

Just checking in......today was weigh in day, and I met my goal for Nov 11th!! I'm down another pound and a half and 4.75 inches from last week!
