Tuesday October 1

Good morning sleepyheads.
I wish I had coffee to offer, but I don't sorry. Off for my regular routine. kids, gym, home for some work and then lots more kids stuff.
Have a good day and enjoy the sun!

L, I can take care of the coffee, have some, it's hot and strong and of course leaded

Ruth glad to hear your Hershey is home. Fingers crossed for puppies.

Pooky fingers crossed for you too!! Baby vibes being sent from the South to the North!

Need some chick advice. Hubby, daughter and I want to go to Florida for Thanksgiving. Which is all well and good, but my son's will not be able to go. My older son will go to his girlfriends for Thanksgiving and my younger son (20) refuses to leave his house for a Holiday. He has friends he could dine with, but he thinks there is something wrong with people who don't stay home for a holiday. I'm telling you this child has kept his Dad and I on our toes since the day he was born. He is truly UNIQUE!!! He said he would fix his own turkey...............

My question is, I have guilt leaving him home on Thanksgiving, if he would agree to go to a friends house I would feel better. My Dad is better, but I still worry about him and it would be very nice to have Thanksgiving with my parents, and siblings. There is a small chance we can talk the 20 year old into going, but if we can't, would I be a bad Mom for leaving him home???

Thanks guys for your opinions, I'll be checking back in to see what you think.

Debbie

Good morning everyone! Slept late today, I hate that. Now I'll be dragging all day. Went to bed early, too, I am so tired lately.

Tommie cried all morning and refused to get dressed. She has this mistaken idea that she gets to pick out her own clothes, whether clean or dirty, even against dress code. I don't remember being that strong-willed at 5. She keeps me on my toes, too, Deb. By the way, I would feel guilty if my child wanted to stay home alone on Thanksgiving, but he is "almost" a grown man. Try to talk him in to it, though!

Ya'll have a great day, it's off to the salt mines for me. Talk to you later!

Ruthxxx 10-01-2002 07:55 AM

Good morning - waving one handed. Just a wee bit sore today but will take it easier today than yesterday. I felt a "pull" :yikes: a couple of times yesterday - a good warning!

Harry is going for our usual fasting bloodwork this a.m. So far, I've stopped him twice from eating breakfast! I was due to go but opted out until Monday - I am too bruised and pricked on both arms to have any patience with poking and prodding to get blood - I'm one of "those" as a narky nurse said to me once!

Hey, did you Chickies check out the Low Carb stuff on the home page? Jennifer and Suzanne have been working their butts off to make changes to the site and things looks good. There is lots more to come, I understand.

Gee, Debkay, that is a hard one but maybe it's time he learned that he doesn't always get his own way. If you can't convince him to come (no bribes, please), I'd go anyhow. This is a very important Thanksgiving for you to be with your Dad and Mum. Maybe a turkey dinner on Canadian Thanksgiving would help? Or would that be construed as a bribe?

Sherrie, isn't it wonderful how soon girls develop clothes sense? My daughter was inclined to dress in warm clothes on hot days and vice versa. She is now mid thirties and has it figured out. It was usually because she liked her familiar clothes from the previous season.

L144S, I need you to set up a schedule for me! I do lots first thing in the morning but never in a very organized fashion. For example, I'm still not dressed and need to move my car out of the lane so DH can go for his blood tests at 8:15. Miss Lucy is going back to the "fur stylist" this morning for the final touches to her cut at 8:30. Hmmmm - would have worked out better another way! See! I need you!

Gotta run. The dogs are re-establishing who is the Alpha dog in our pack. When they get that figured out, I'll remind them that I am the Alpha!

Morning chickies....... thanks for the coffee, deb... it's good! Okay, here goes MY answer to your son who won't leave the house on Thanksgiving: yes, thanksgiving is for home and family: BUT family and home are not always necessarily all under the roof where you live!! Remember the old saying "home is where the heart is"? well, add family to that and it works even better. In your case, family includes your folks who happen to LIVE in Florida, and it is a whole heck of a lot easier for YOU to go to THEM than it is to try to get them to you! Sounds to me like he's being a real b@llbuster - and (from my limited experience - and that being with my own b@llbusters!)trying to force bend you to his will. Sorry, but you're the mommy here and there are certain decisions that are mommy's - not sonny's! You could also tell him that if FAMILY means as much to him as he seems to want you to think it does, he would go with you to Florida -- after all, his grandparents are his family too!
Sorry to get up on my high horse about this, and you can tell me to jump in the lake if you want, but this particular issue is a real hot-button for me (as if you couldn't tell!!! ) for me personally, Thanksgiving is the one day per year that I believe is all about family and I have one kiddie (notsolittle!) who thinks that it is a great time to go skiing, or to go to a friend who lives upstate and is making T-dinner for the first time, etc etc etc.......

Again, apologies for my rant, but......

L - hope you have a great day

Sherrie, mine were strong-willed almost from birth! Since she wants to pick out her own clothes to wear, can you maybe pick out 2 or 3 and let her choose from them? Might work (might not, but then again, it might!! )

Pooky - I've been doing the chickie fertility dance for you (dh wants to know why I've been dancing around in a big yellow suit!)

Well, off to start the day...... have a good one chickies!
Opps, Ruthie, I missed you jumping in here!! Glad Hershey is back home and that you are feeling so well! Especially glad that the fin year for the fair is DONE! YEAYYYYYYYY!!!!!

Pooky 10-01-2002 08:12 AM

Good morning chickies!

Bed is still broke becasue dh got home really late from work last ight and didn't have a chance to get out into the garage to make new posts. We are going to construct some 4 x 4 posts, about8 inches high and stick them under the bed. I'm also trying to convince him to put a trim board all teh way around so we can't see under the bed. He promsed he will fix it tonight.

Deb, your son reminds me of Miree, any change in what she thinks is right and a meltdown happens (you too, eh, Sherrie??). I would just let him stay home. Sooner or later he's going to have to realize that the world doesn't revolve around what he wants but what you all as a family want. I say go and enjoy Thanksgiving, especially with your Dad.

I knew it! Ruthie! :nono: I knew you were going to over do it! Now you listen here missy, NO MORE USING THAT HAND TODAY! Got that? Good. :)

Good Morning L, hopeyou make time for some coffee!

Sherrie, Miree got up at 2:45 am. She was promptly put straight to bed and later her dad woke up with her and let me sleep till a quarter to 8. God bless his soul! But, now I'm all out of whack too.

Today is drop in and my much needed coffee. Cleaning the house and assessing what needs to happen before Oct. 24th. Silly me volunteered to have the board meeting at my house, sigh.. why do I do this to myself??

Have a good one everyone. :)

Good Morning Ladies:wave:

Pooky~~~I'm so glad that your labs are doing sp well. I'll bet the doc was floored. Good for you!!!!

Ruth~~It sounds like you are doing fantastic after your surgery. Just remember to take it slow, OK?

Deb~~I have to agree whole-heartedly with what SamsG said regarding family and the holidays. If he feels the need to stay at his house, you should NOT feel guilty, because that is his choice to NOT spend Thanksgiving with the family all together. Hope this helps. kids do have a way of making us feel guilty, don't they. In your heart you know what is right and fair.

Everybody have a great day, and to all of the Boot Camp Ladies~Good Luck.

Good Tuesday morning Chickies!

Well our one free night of the week has now become occupied! Tuesday evenings are now for cub scouts. Oh well, soccer practices will be ending at the end of October.

L ~ Have a fun busy day!

Debkay ~ I do not think I could say it any better than samsgrandma, she did a kick-a$$ job! Family is what counts!

Ruth ~ Thanks for pointing out the home page, it is terrific!

Goodforme ~ One battle that we have choosen not to fight in our household is the "what to wear battle." My boys are pretty good, although like Ruth's daughter, my Darren has trouble letting go of his summer clothes. He is nicknamed Shorty , not because of his stature, but because he wears shorts as long as he can and brings them out as early as he can in the spring.

Samsgrandma ~ Your ideas of holidays is so right on, I am with you, good job explaining it!

Pooky ~ Good luck getting ready for the 24th, I am sure you will do great.

Good morning to you, 2Bfit1

Nice to see you posting MamaJ!

Hey Jif, how is the job going, still frustrating?

Morning to you crafty Peachie!

Have a great op day!

Leenie 10-01-2002 11:38 AM

Good almost the first day of October afternoon !

:chef:

Jiffffyyyyyyyyypoppppp chickie are you okay ?

Ms Spotdog 10-01-2002 11:39 AM

Debkay - I say that guilt is made to be shared! If he was my son, I would needle him with the fact that his grandparents aren't going to around forever and he is just 20 years old and there will be PLENTY of Thanksgivings spend at home in his future.

Just my 2 cents

Kel

L144S 10-01-2002 12:01 PM

Thank you Ruth... I need you too!
I did get coffee this am thank you. I made the kids leave 5 min. early and stoped in town. A running joke with the bagel shop owner, I left all pennies in the quick pay jar.

off to drop the kids then to the gym. It took me a while to get into the grove this am. A very slow walk to loosen up. then class from 9-10.

I know it sounds great, but I came home and have eaten almost everything that was not nailed down; Including 2 Twinkies and Doritos. I am feeling a little sick at the moment but I KNOW it will pass.

Deb...I am with Ruth on the son thing. I think you should go to FLA. It really is not where you have the holiday but with whom. id your DS wants hungry man and stay at home, he is old enough to make that choice for him as you are old enough to make the choice for you.

Pooky you can get what the call a Harvard frame form any mattress store for not a lot of $. if I had to wait for DH it would never get done.

Ok and last but not least, an update on my bathroom disaster. The contractor agreed to hire another contractor and not disagree with what contractor 2 says needs to be done and all bills will go to contractor 1. So contractor 2 came over and said the whole shower base had to come out. I have been trying to tell contractor 1 this for about 3 months. So I feel better that it will get fixed, I don't have to go to court and I won't have to pay anymore money.
So I have an hour or so before I have to go get the kids. I think I will give my mother a call.
Be well
-L

Well, Debbie, first of all, I think you should come to N.J. for Thanksgiving....but with that said, I'd guilt the kid too...and if he still refuses to go, I'd smack him upside the head and buy him a hungry man dinner and give him a list of must do chores while you are away.

Same old same old around here. gluing buttons on the snowmen getting ready to drill arm holes and nose holes in a new batch...love those power tools. Gee think I should get my fall decorations up some time soon?

later!

Leenie 10-01-2002 12:13 PM

Ummmmmmmm

Later Peach !!!

Still waiting for you to decorate my lawn !!! :D

DonDar 10-01-2002 01:26 PM

Hey Peachie, you have my curiosity up, are you able to scan in a picture of your snowmen and post them. I would love to see what you have been up to.

dyan_q 10-01-2002 02:06 PM

Ouch! I just got my flu shot. This is the first time I've gotten one, does anyone else get them?

Deb - I can't see how anyone could object to Thanksgiving in FL? I've had Thanksgiving in Atlanta, FL and WV. The weather is much nicer in FL! Last year we cooked out. Grilled turkey. LOL (Probably as close to a "traditional" Thanksgiving as you can get. Do you think the Pilgrims put the turkey in a GE oven?) I agree that you need to do what you want and go see your family. Guess this is why they say parenting isn't for wimps.
