WEEKEND!!! Sept 28 & 29
Hurray!
Coffee's on... |
Hey! Pass me a mug! Am getting mine and will be right back! :)
|
It is cloudy and been raining all night here, but we need it, so can't complain! A good day to putter around the house, maybe do some cooking.
It is especially quiet and peaceful right now because DH is visiting his mother- she just got home from recouperating from heart surgery, and he is doing his oldest son duty and checking on her- about 5 hours away. I am NEVER alone in the house, and it is just sooo nice! I had most of my kitchen update completed by Thursday- it's great, I am very pleased with everything. I am waiting for some odd size cabinets to come in, so it will be about 3 weeks until it's comletely finished. But for now I have new lower cabinets, a new countertop, sink, and dishwasher. I will spend the next 2 weekends stripping wallpaper and painting and all that. Then when the last of the cabinets are installed I'll be all done. I have been considering this project for 2 years, it went so easily, I should have done it sooner! Not much else, dieting has gone down the drain this week- I haven't even thought about it other than to keep up a good protein breakfast everyday, and drinking water. But I haven't had a vegetable since August, I think! LOL Well, on that note, I'd better go post my October boot camp goals! Have a good one! Hi Ruthie, I know you're doing great! Thinking of you...do you want me to come over and walk the dog? Make you some tea? Or something stronger? dottie |
GOOD MORNING! I AM DRINKING COFFEE WITH MY MUG IN MY RIGHT hand!!!!
Don't ever let anyone freak you out with horror tales about the CTS operation. It was a cinch! Yes I have a fair amount of pain but I can use my fingers! The op was only 15 minutes although I waited for two hours to get into the OR, After they sprung me Harry and I picked up my drugs, I took a pain killer and we went out to lunch. Then I came home and slept for three hours! I have an antibiotic which cannot be taken at meals and a pain killer which must be taken with food so there will need to be some scheduling done. Dotty, it rained all day here yesterday - a great garden soaker - but is clear now so the good stuff will be heading your way today, I think. Right now I am going to see if I can do some sewing! :dancer: :goodvibes: Thanks for all the prayers and good vibes, sweeties! :grouphug: |
Wow, Ruth! I knew nothing could keep you down, but come on! Could you PLAY sick or something??? Congrats on the hand, and is there any chance of getting the other one done soon? I'm so glad it worked out!
Having typical Saturday here, running around like a headless chicken. Got to get dd's laundry done, she's going to grandma's to spend the night. Don't tell her, but while she's gone, I'm going on a stealth mission through her room. When she comes home, she's going to be 75% lighter in the toy department. And, the joke here is, she'll probably never notice! Ya'll have a wonderful day, I'm off to find coffee, and a sinus pill. I woke up yesterday with a darn cold of all things, haven't had one this year yet, so I guess it's my turn. I HATE being sick! Talk to you later! |
Good Morning!
Ruth~ I'm soooo glad that your surgery went so well. My friend Susie had it a few months ago and was also surprised at how quick the recovery was. Her scar is fading quickly too. But I agree with Sherrie-can't you just pretend? Maybe Harry will pamper you a bit! ;)
Sherrie~With Christmas just around the corner those toys will be filling up that room again! Dottie~Glad your kitchen project went smoothly! I feel a little bad that I "trashed" Kitchenaid's quality of dishwasher. The repair man informed me that dh did indeed save us alot of money as we have a top of the line machine - a power surge shorted out the main panel which is a common problem - but assured us that the KA is a great purchase! DH went to the deer lease yesterday so I have a few minutes to post this morning. Altho with my last minute trip I should be packing and the other pre trip stuff. The mornings here have been wonderfully cool. I love when I can open the doors and windows to let things air out! Well, off for coffee! Have a wonderful weekend! I'll try to pop in from little brothers puter! J |
Happy Saturday everyone! After all of the rain ... the sun has come out and is shining brightly - okay, it is sooo window that my screenhouse is blowing around (note to self: have dh take it down when he gets home from work!!!).... No phone calls, so I guess I didn't get any of those jobs <sigh> I'll have to keep on looking, only harder - my boss pulled a very nasty fast one, and now dh is telling me to quit! BUT, I've always learned that you need to HAVE a job in order to FIND a job - what do you chickies think? All I know is, I have to get a new one SOOOOON! OK, enough *itching!
RUTHIE!!!!!!! WOWOWOWOW! I am so happy for you, I am happy dancing all over the place  :cb:  :cb: I think I'm gonna have to go back to the dr and have him check me again...... the only thing is, I really don't want to have another ENG ..... the first one was sooooo terrible! Dottie ... I'm glad your experience with the kitchen has been a good one..... mine STILL isn't finished! I hope the carpenter will be able to come today to cut down the counter top (he came last Saturday, but the butcher block hadn't arrived yet!!! :( ) and adjust the 2 new cabinets he built...... we still have to make a decision about a new floor and what to do with the walls - I'm pretty sure we won't wallpaper this time - I'm thinking about painting, just don't know whether to sponge or faux finish. The shelving in the new pantry is "almost" done...... it is sooo amazing how much room there is... if dh becomes too much of a sh, I can put his bed in there!!!!!   Sherrie - youre right.... she'll probably never miss the ones you clean out! Have a good time doing it! (I know that when I used to have to do that, it always felt soooo good!!) OK -- to all to come.... have a great day! |
Checkin in
I just thought last week was the week from H@()...then there was this week. I haven't even had time to pop in and read the post. I'll try to see if I can catch up this morning, but I doubt it. The move of the business isn't going as well as planned. We were going to be done by today, but we still havent been able to get the new phones in and you can't run a mail order business with out phones, so the week starting Monday will start with half of us in one building and the other half in the other!!! That will not be fun either!!! Then the computer system that was supposed to be up and running by the 1st is going to have to be scrapped and completely reinstalled to get the bugs out, so not only will we be in two building, we will be having to keep us two computer systems!!! HELP!!! Samsgrandma: move to Dallas & we'll give you a job!!!
Then there is the deal with my dad. He has been doing better with his breathing because of the fact they have ben able to reduce the fluid on his heart and lungs, but the doctor told him Wed that he onoly has 20% function of his heart and that he needs to bring in a list with him monday about what emergency and life support measures he wants to be taken. Needless to say tht has turned my Mom into a basket case. My Dad is still in denial that he has a heart problem, and he said that he going to tell off the new doctor, because he has done nothing except read the old doctors notes and told him the same thing thaqt the old doctor did. duhhh!! like I said to my Mom, "could that be because that is the truth/" So I'm waiting for my brother and sister to come here to my house for a "meeting" thenwe are going as a group to try to talk to my parents. My menu for yesterday: B: scrambled eggs & bacon (very good!) L: 2 weiners with chilli & cheese (pretty good) sn: Luna Bar (not so good) sn#2:bout 6 Girl Scout Cookies, Do-si-Do's (not good at all) sn3: Dairy Queen Blizard with heath bars and pecans (terrible) D: Lasagna & salad (but I didn't eat the garlic bread!) D Dessert: Hummingbird Cake (WOW wonderful, but not for the WOE!!!) Can anyone tell I was stressed yesterday? Why do I do that to myself? Well While I wait for the big meeting, I'l try to catch up with everyone's week. |
Boy, has this day turned around!
it started off really cloudy, and then the clouds blew away and the sky is the most beautiful blue you can imagine. I am getting small chores done, and spending 10 or 15 minutes at a time laying in the yard. Oh, heaven. No husband to mess up my kitchen. No meal to cook. Laundry is done. Banking is done. Happy day!:cloud9: see you later! dottie |
TRULY a fabulous day!!!!
I GOT A JOOOOOOB I GOT A JOOOOOOOOB   :cb: :cb: On Monday, I call my boss and give her 1 week notice (I've only worked for her since July and lately I only have 1 day per week!!!! -- AND.. she scr##'d me big time!!) |
now, just what is the best news here??? sam n rosies grandma's new job?? or dottiejohn's new kitchen and a few days of peace???
i know!!! ruthie's successful wrist operation!!! sooo, when do you start driving again?? or maybe the real question is, maybe you could ACT sick and tell harry that you have to head south, to the US to recuperate in, say, hmmm. atlanta??? joisy???? illinois???? i just LOVE all this good news. and barb.. good luck with your dad. it's hard to tell which is worse: the whole time they spend denying that anything is wrong, or the point where they kind of stop fighting... neither is pleasant. reality bites. no matter which way ya look at it here. sherrie... surely you wouldn't deprive little miss tommy lee anne of anything she wants!!!! LOL.. sorry. i can tell that she has everything she needs and just about everything she could possibly want. just don't wear yourself out. and mamaj... so glad you're going on a trip. good luck. stay calm. we love you. so let me see what's new with me... not much. the project from **** is just about over, so that's good news. and i had a sitdown chat with my boss about what's going on. she's going to try to make some changes, but neither of us is confident that there will be much different. but she's in complete agreement with me. and has agreed to tell me when she takes people off the projects that i've assigned them to work on her proposals!!! a small thing. yeah right. and next week i get to talk to a writer about the lousy job she did on something. she was out of her field and it showed, big time. never a pleasant conversation. and a lovely lovely day today. a trip to the salvation army and bought a pair of nonelastic [not a teeny tiny bit, even!!!] blue jeans!!! from LL bean. for 10 bucks!!!!! should last a couple of months at least. errands with mom. and she's all tired out. laundry and groceries tomorrow. so nice to have a break. more later, maybe. and much love to all of you. |
Ruth :)

Evening!
hey Ruth! Glad to hear your operation went well! Leens, been thinking about decorating your front yard. For the fall: Pumpkins, scarecrows, corn stalks and maybe some leaf or berry garland. Fairy lights? But really, I am into concentrating on Christmas. I am partial to a Tikki bar WITH lights and pink flamingos with tastefull wreaths around their necks and santa hats. I'll be there the day after Thanksgiving....in the meantime.... I am going to go help Dottie with her kitchen, I know she needs the help! :dizzy: I am painting bears....yeehaw! peach |
well just got a call this am. i was supposed to do training for nursing supervisor but that is all off. this gal that droped down to part time so she could go to school and does weekends has called in again this weekend and for the last 3 weekends. IMHO they should get her a$$ out of there! if i was not there to back them up the floor would have been having some great trouble!!
|
Good Morning everyone!
Sorry, just didn't get in here yesterday, everything just kept popping up! Ruth, so good to hear that wrist is getting better already!! :D Sams G, way to go on the job!!!! You must be thrilled! Dottie! You kitchen remodeller you! I hope you take pics and let us see it! Jiff, don't let your job woes worry you too much, as you said, this may not be a permanent place to rest your hat anyway! Peachie, if we lived close enough we could do some serious damage crafting, I swear! Leens, BOO! Jenny, where are you girlie? Barb, man oh man, I think this whole change over is just stressing you out--I'm thinking spa day the second all of this is over with! Janice hon, we love you whether you're here regularly or not and we know what you're all contending with! Sherrie, tis the season to sort out toys! I just did the same thing 3 days ago! Walked away with 1 garbage bag of garbage and broken toys and a really large shopping bag full of storable toys. My friend Karen just did it 2 days before me and pretty much everyone I know is doing the toy sort--a sure sign Christmas is upon us! LOL Oh Sue, I'm sure they'll get tired of her shenanigans and make a firm decision too. She has senority, right? Really sucks when you're the new kid... Today is all about the garden--in bad need of weeding and making the front bed larger. I am preparing it to accept all those peonies I split last weekend. May have to make a side trip to the garden center to get some peat moss since I have fairly sandy dirt. Made a huge step forward last night, for the most part I am finished the huge paint by numbers for my Mom's Christmas present. Only took me a month! The next crafts are well under way, dh is helping out with the woodworking and I'm in the paint department! :D Have a good one everyone! |
Hurray for Ruth!!!:cb:
Hurray for samsgrandma!!!:dancer: Hurray for Dotties kitchen!!!:flame: |
Morning Chickies...... what? No coffee?!?!?!:fr: Oh well, I'll just have to get my butt downstairs and make some!
Sue .. I'm so sorry you got called to go in to work today. Is the supervisor training only today? Can you do it some other day? That other girl sounds kind of like one who works with me - she wanted to be home with her kids over the summer (understandable, but still... ) so she gave her hours away! School started, she wanted them back, and the he## with those of us who worked those hours! NOW she wants to work again, so we're out of luck ... see why I looked for another job?? (not to mention the BIG difference in pay AND eligibility for health insurance!! :jig: ) You're right tho -- they ARE darn lucky to have had you there to back her up! I certainly hope that they appreciate you and all that you do for the residents! Pooky, any time that you feel the need to garden - you are MORe tHAN welcome to come on down here and work in my (non-existent) garden! I'd love to have one, but I have a very black thumb! Every plant that I look at, dies! Jif.. I'm so sorry that things aren't a whole lot better for you at work. This is no solution, but maybe a little diversion: lunch at the 2nd Ave Deli sometime soon??????? Sounds really good to me - unless, of course, you prefer the Texas BBQ again???? whadyasay? huh? huh? huh? Peach.. if Dottie doesn't need the help in her kitchen, I certainly do in mine!!! Still haven't decided what to do with the walls! Barb... hope the meeting with your siblings and folks went well .. I know what a stressful time this can be. Just please remember to take a little bit of time for yourself - you not only NEED it, you definitely deserve it!! Ruth.. I hope your wrist is doing even better today! Your recovery is just amazing! But I agree with whoever it was who said that you should at least PRETEND to not be doing so well!  Mamaj.. hope you're enjoying your trip..... I hope it is relaxing and restful and enjoyable! Leens..... boo right back to you! Well, I'm gonna go start the day...... we have tickets to today's final game of the season at Shea..... my Mets have gone down the tubes this year, but Sherrie, JUST YOU WAIT TIL NEXT YEAR!!!!! have a good one everybody! |
Just popping in before the Great Unveiling! My nurse friend Claire is going to remove the bandages later this morning - they said 48 hours but it will be more like 46.
Still no major problems except when I forget I have had an operation. I'm taking my pain pills on a full tummy before it spikes, taking the anti-biotics on an empty tummy and working in my extra vitamins and lots of water in between. Sheesh! It's like a whole new career! Our furnace died last night (first time on this fall) and the Repair Lad came with his wife! They were on their way to a party when he got the call. She was a sweetie named Rose who sat and drank herb tea with me until about 9 while The Lad fixed the furnace. This morning the darn thing is still not working perfectly so there will be another call. I hope they didn't drink too much at the party! (Hmmm - the blower/fan is the problem. I wonder if the AC Lad goofed. Hmmmmmm.) Hey - new jobs, new kitchens, crafts, days alone, trips to SC or is it NC? Things sure happen in here. |
:goodvibes
Another beautiful day here, clear deep blue skies, makes you hate to come into the house! DH got home from his mom's late last night- she's all squared away, feeling well and able to drive- that was important for us to know; could she get herself to the grocery store and to drop off the laundry, etc. Seems to be okey-dokey for now. Whew... Not much going on. I am just at the step in this kitchen where I could really use all of you- the technical stuff is done(plumbing, electric, carpentry) and it's time to pull down the old wallpaper and prepare the walls and prime and paint and all that time comsuming stuff. So Peach, no stenciling, but you could paint some trim. Jiff, scrape wallpaper. Lets see, a one handed job for Ruth, how about pouring the iced tea? Pooky, have you ever used one of those glaze finishes? Get busy. And the rest of you can start to paint the ceiling. No drips on the floor, please! I am roasting a turkey breast and making a big pan of baked ziti for DH's dinners for a few days- then maybe off to shop with sis. Thinking of you all, wish I could come south! dottie |
POOKY: what a wonderful idea., but already in the works is a weekend off for Alvin & I. we are going with his sis & BIL to an antique flea market that they have near Austin twice a year. We've never been, but they say it's worth the trip. And I have us reservations at the Embasy Suites ( us in on suite, inlaws in different one) Two rooms, 2 TV, data port, indoor pool, fitness center, free cooked breakfast, and free coctail hour nightly All for 50 bucks a night. Am i a good bargin shopper or What??? Any way I need it.
So here it is Sunday afternoon and I'm hard at work, will probally be here all day, and into the night. Needless to say we didn't finish up the move, but what I'm doing today is the work we didn't do Friday and Sat. because we were moving. I did much better wtih my food yesterday, and so far today has been strickly OP, of course the day isn't over and there's still a box of GS cookies here on my desk!!! The talk with my family went better than I expected, but then las night my mom fell and hurt her hand. Not sure if it's broken or just sprang yet, will let you know later. Well I need to get back to work. Wil check in the next time I get a change. |
Hello everyone! The room from h*ll is clean as a whistle. She was so excited to find some of her old favorites, she didn't even notice that most of the junk is gone! And, I got a big hug and a "You did all this for ME???" Sometimes being a mom is great!
I'm tired, tired, tired. Hardly did anything today, but ready for a nap or a really early bedtime. Hope you all did something fun for yourselves this weekend! Talk to you in the morning. |
Three cheers
Hurrah for Ruth's wrist getting better Hurrah for Samsgrandma's new job (what is the job anyhow?) Hurrah for Dottie's kitchen. Oh, and another hurrah for Peachie's bears. You're putting me to shame, Peach. I'm supposed to be painting pansies on a wooden step stool for my club's Christmas raffle but I haven't even started. It doesn't have to be ready until mid-November but that's no reason to procrastinate. Aw, what the heck. Sure it is. ;) I'm getting excited about #2 daughter's upcoming visit. In one week from tomorrow my baby girl will be home for 8 days. It's been a whole year since I visited her and her hubby in Scotland. She hasn't seen her Dad in nearly two years! I guess I should get busy and start getting the guest bedroom (also my sewing and craft room) ready for her. Cool and windy here today but dh managed to get the lawn mowed finally. Hopefully just one or two more mows and he'll be done for the season. I still have bulbs to plant and more garden cleanup to be done. I haven't been too OP lately so today I've been trying very hard to stay on track. Devil, stay away from my door!  Very difficult when I just baked a lovely Plum Streusel Kuchen for dh's snacks and lunches. (sigh) Why do I do this to myself? :?: Well, that's all for now. I've so enjoyed reading all the posts. My heart goes out to everyone in difficulty and I rejoice with everyone who has good news. You're such a terrific bunch! :grouphug: |
