    just want to say HI to all. busy as ususal in this house!! i am having the dept of healt come and investigate my cat as he scratched my son and the school nurse reported it!! i laughed and told them that it was not a bite (that is what the letter said) but just a scratch and if they want to see me they will see me on my terms which is not 3:30 in the afternoon but 8:00 at night when i get home with swimming with the boys! lets see if they still want to meet with me then!! they will conform to my time i will not miss work for them!!

    well must run and fix dinner for the crockpot!!
  • Dear Auntie Em (that would be you, Susan)

    Let me see if I understand this correctly. Your pet cat, toto scratched your son, Dorothy. Miz Gulch, and her winged monkey think that Dot got bit and are coming to see you? Bet Miz Gulch arrives on a bike and has a basket in hand. You check for tornado warnings around by you?

    sheeeshh....before meds, my son bruised and scratched me all of the time...no one came to visit me....well except the psyche doc and he made me pay!!!! (obviously, not enough as you can see by this post!)

    Have a nice swim today Susan....and smack Miz Gulch for me or at the very least pour water on her! I am going to eat right, exercise, buy a new book and pick up a present for my niece and then I am going to make a crafty little sign that says "Beware of attack cat!" Wonder if I can get it to you in time for Miz Gulch!?

    oh boy

    Thanks for the coffee....can I have another? What's in the crock pot?

    peach
  • Good morning ladies, and plese pass the coffee!

    Monsters Inc is out on vdeo today so I am off to Costco after the gym. I am sore this morning...I hope the scale makes a move becuse i need it to.

    Ruth I have not heard back from my friend but I forwarded the mail you sent and that nay have been the deturant. Good friends of mine adopted a 3 year old golden over the weeken. We will go meet him after school. The woman who gave him up had her 6th child and felt the 3 dogs on top of that was too much! YA THINK?

    I saw my friends new baby in the restroom at the mall yesterday. A proper visit is in order and I hpoe to find a few littel book gifts for the kids at costco today before I make that formal visit. Anyway, a WELCOME to Debbie A. I forgot to do that yesterday. Enjoy your swim Sue and Peach? Why are you posting at 5:30 in the morning? Is it the only free time you have left?

    Have a good day and hello to all that follow.
    -L
  • Good Morning!
    peachie!! So good to see you posting Will you be home this morning? A friend wants me to take her to Sam's (she doesn't have a membership, I do) if we don't leave too early I may give you a buzz.

    Jiff hope today is not as hellish as you think it will be at work. I'm thinking good thoughts for ya.

    DebbieA, be careful, very careful how you answer peachie's baseball question.

    Sue why would the school report a cat scratch? We all want to protect children, but I think she has a little too much time on her hands. Let us know what happens.

    kel, good to see you posting. How is your Mom's recovery going?

    To everyone else

    Hope you all have a great day!

    Debbie

    PS Did anyone notice I didn't say anything about band
  • Hey, Debkay! How come there was nothing about Band? Did they OD on the valium cookies?

    Back in a mo.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Back and have a coffee, thanks.
    I weanted to take the sheets in off the line and hang out another load but the sheets, which were nearly dry at 10 last night, are soaking once again. We had a very heavy dew last night! Duh! How soon we forget.
    There are a few trees showing red and yellow patches around here. Miss Lucy and I went for her first walk in the woods. She has had a few runs in the woods when she escapes but this was a formal one. She is amazingly well-behaved when she is the only dog! Hershey is being a good girl at Morna's but is not happy - she keeps giving M. the mournful stare. I have no idea when it will be the right time for this breeding but sure hope to have her home for the weekend when my pal arrives from WI.
    Sue I cannot believe the school is making a fuss over a cat scratch! Sometimes, I think things have gone too far! Maybe they think you beat the poor child with the cat?
    Peachie, nice to see you posting. And don't ask about baseball, OK? When you chickies get started on that stuff, I really feel like I can't understand the American version of English!
    L144S, I hope your friend makes the right dog decision. Morna and I discussed PWDs and wee kids on Sunday night and agreed that perhaps they are not a good dog with the wee ones once they reach the toddler stage. That herding instinct snaps right in if the kids start to run around.
    Sheesh, I'm in edit and can't read back for the other posts!
    Have a great day, everyone.
  • Good Morning !!
    Yeah you guessed it, the boss is here waaaaaaaaah
    Leenie
    CATS & NURSES & SCHOOLS OH MY !
    CATS & NURSES & SCHOOLS OH MY !
  • Good Tuesday Morning Chicks!
    Not much to report, same old stuff, soccer practice. I think we are going to my mom's tonight to sell her some school fundraising stuff. Grandma's are always suckers for kids selling stuff! As a member of the PTO, I know how this money is needed. Schools just get the basics. Our PTO has paid for the playground, musical equipment, and many other important items. Can you imagine an elementary school without a playground! I hate the effort of selling, but I know the need.
    Sue, Sounds like too much fuss over a scratch. I do agree that someone needs to be watching out for the kids, but it is often carried to far. I would think they have better things to do than check out your monster cat!
    Peachie, loved your Oz rendition.
    L, thanks for the reminder, I will be picking up Monsters Inc myself, the boys and the grownups loved it.
    Deb, have fun at Sam's, I was there Sunday, what a crazy mad-house.
    Ruth, signs of fall already! Hope your Hershey makes it home soon.
    Jiff, best of luck at work today.
    Ms Spot, Nice to see you posting, How is your mom doing?
    MamaJ, how is your dd doing, where was it she moved to?
    Pooky, Still sending baby thoughts your way!
    Have a great op day!
  • Good Morning Chickies....... OK, I know that I've been AWOL for a bit, but you know how "stuff" interferes with your computer life???? Well, it's been doing just that! (not to mention the Jewish holidays, too!)
    It's taken me most of my puter time to catch up on all of your doings for the past few days, which doesn't leave me much time for posting/replying. So, in short (which I usually never am, except of course, for physically!!! oops, I mean vertically challenged..... sheesh! See that peachie, your influence must be rubbing off on me!!) I read so much so fast that I can't remember what I wanted to post to each and every one of you!!! Here's what I can think of BEFORE COFFEE :
    Peachie, great to see you back
    DebbieA - welcome... and please DO answer the question, just make sure it's the RIGHT answer
    !!!
    Sue - I'd like to help peachie with the attack cat sign... only I want to add some stuff to it!!
    Debbie - why not band info????
    Jif - you've got GREAT ankles!!
    Ruth - I hope Hershey comes home to you real quick........ I know you (and Lucy too!!) miss her to pieces........I'm not having any luck finding a portie to call me his/her own - do you think it's not meant to be????
    Dottie - how's the kitchen "de"struction decisions going?
    Jennifer - good luck today..... I'm sending good skinny vibes your way!
    To anyone I've missed, please forgive me, this darn "CRS, CRAFT" stuff is taking over what is left of my brains! Have a great day everyone, will check back later......
    Hey..... Dondar - you snuck in on me! Have a great day! Leens too! (sorry your boss is there!!)
  • Good Morning, Good Morning, Good Morning to you...
    Good Morning, everybody, it's nice to see you...
    That's the little song they sing at circle time at the drop in center, where we are going this morning. Miree definitely needs to run off that energy. Yesterday she found herself in time out at daycare for being saucy and rude (not surprising ) and she pretty much brought it home with her. Greeeaaatt..how long till she turns 4!?!?
    Ruth, hope Hershey gets preggers real soon!
    Sue-that is just nuts! I hope you do get that sign and gift wrap it and give it to the nutsy nurse at school!
    Peeeeeaaaacchhhh??? Do you need some heeeelp? I know a very nice doctor who could help you...
    L, I was thinking of getting Monsters Inc. for Christmas for Miree but we've never seen the movie. I was also thinking about getting Shrek which I have seen and thought maybe she mght like it.
    Jenny, talk to me about fundraising! I am in the midst of getting money together (and volunteers and time) to erect a shade structure in the playyard for the wee ones.
    samsG, crafting is never bad, just addictive!
    Leenie, have a good morning--maybe we can slip a sedative in your boss' coffee??
    Good morning Deb!--yes,I noticed there were no band references!
    Debbie, welcome to the club--sorry I've been remisce, addled brains, I say.
    Have a great day everyone!
  • Good morning, Chickies. This is early for me...10:47 am west coast time...probably well past noon for the rest of you.
    Not much new to report. We're having some damp weather so the garden is pretty soggy right now. I'm also noticing signs of autumn with a few trees and shrubs changing colour and a lot of the annual flowers well past their prime.
    I have a question. Maybe it's explained in a past post but I don't have time to hunt for it. What the heck is CRAFT? What's CRS? I'm not even too sure what PCOS is? Are these newly invented ailments? If it's not too personal, could somebody please explain?
    Sue, I'm trying to figure out why the Dept of Health would be interested in a cat scratch. Aren't they supposed to be busy watching out for West Nile Disease and water pollution, not to mention rodent droppings in restaurants?
    Tomorrow I will be in the USA for the first time in years. You'd think I'd go more often when you consider that when we are only about 20 minutes drive away from the border. But, even though there is a better selection in the stores, by the time a person pays import duty and the horrible exchange rate, there really isn't much saved. The reason I'm going tomorrow is because we have an annual get-together with some ladies in a farm women's club in Lynden, Wa. Each year we take turns hosting a "hands across the border" get together. Their turn this year. For some reason I've never been able to make it to the one in the States so this will be new for me. I'm hoping to do a wee bit of shopping while I'm down there but not knowing my way around the area, I will probably only find myself back at the border instead of at a mall.
    I have to make a dish for the pot luck luncheon and have decided on a cucumber/shrimp salad with dill. Hey, this is low carb. Here's the recipe.
    CUCUMBER SHRIMP SALAD
    (adjust amounts to suit yourself)
    Peel and very thinly slice cucumbers. (I use the thinnest slicer on my grater) Put in a colander and sprinkle with salt and after about 20 minutes, pat them dry with paper towels. This helps get rid of excess moisture that can make the salad watery.
    Thinly slice and chop an onion and toss with the sliced cukes.
    Thaw and drain frozen or fresh cooked/peeled shrimp.
    Mix with cukes and onions.
    Mix equal parts of sour cream and mayo. Add chopped parsley or chives (or both) for a dash of colour and finely minced fresh dill (or dried dill). Mix with cukes and taste for seasoning. If necessary, add a bit more salt and some pepper and a dash of lemon juice. Chill.
    This usually goes over very well and will use up some of my long Ancient Chinese Cukes. I also had a good buy on frozen cooked, peeled shrimp yesterday, two bags for the price of one so that will help.
    Well, not too much else new around here. Nice to read all the posts. Have a great day.
  • what time is lunch, linda??? that sounds wonderfulll. and hope you have a great time over the border. i've seen several cars with BC license plates, and i've always wanted to visit, so watch out!!!! one of these days, i could actually be banging at your door!
    and i'm at work , so i dont' have much time, but CRS = can't remember ****. aka old-timers disease
    CRAFT is really just that. peachie has ISSUES with doing crafts... a love/hate thing, and she's starting up again..
    PCOS = polycystic ovarian syndrome, which leads to obesity around the middle, insulin resistance, fertility problems, hormone imbalances, and other ick. and it's pretty much what it sounds like. lots of cysts on your ovaries.
  • CRAFT.......
    Hey Jiff!!! You just have "issues" with Peachie doing crafts!!
    When I refer to CRAFT......... it is the natural follow-up to CRS:
    inotherwords: Can't Remember A F#$%ing Thing!!!
  • Pooky,
    Monsters inc I believe is G, Both of my kids loved it but rent it first and see if you like it, It also may show up on PAY PER VIEW in the next month. We also loved Shrek, but it is rated PG and some moms don't like that. I would never have let older boy watch it at 5, Like he never had candy until he was 3, but little man has seen it and loves it, and yes we own it.
  • DOH! I thought Samsg was refering to crafts, like doing crafts? My oh my...
    Thanks L, I have seen Shrek and I loved it! I think Miree might like it too. I will have to rent Monsters Inc. to see if I like it.
    Linda hon, I have PCOS and Jiff is right on the money with her description--hence the reason I'm a) not preggers yet b) had a billion (or so it seems) ultrasounds done and saw with my own two eyes all the cysts on my ovaries, and c) am low carbing with Atkins now to balance my hormones. And thanks for the physical description Jiff, now everyone knows what I look like! Can you say spare tire? I'm thinking Michelin!
  • Happy Tuesday!
    My Tuesdays always feel like the start of my week because I have to work at a client's office (I do bookkeeping) every Monday and usually don't get home until after 7 so it is just a blur.
    Thank you for asking about my mom. She is doing wonderfully well, everything considered. Her strength is returning and she is getting used to eating every 2-3 hours. Her weight is still right around 110 lbs. (it just floors me to realize that she was weighing in the 160s at this time last year!) but the doc feels she will start slowly gaining very soon. She has a medium size frame and is around 5'4" so she looks WAAAY too thin. She would like to be in the mid 120s but it might be hard to get there with her reduced stomach and diet restrictions.
    Jiff - I was giggling while reading your explanation to Linda about CRAFT! As a card carrying member of the idiots club who FULLY partook in ALL the 1980s had to offer, I live with my own serious case of CRS & CRAFT!
    See??? I told you that Linda was an amazing cook! That recipe sounds wonderful! I'm sure that all the ladies, no matter which side of the border they are from, will love it!
    I took Lis (Melis, Melissa, Lissa Lou, Mel, Sis, Sissy Sue - she has many nicnames round here) to get her braces removed this morning and her teeth look GREAT! The orthodontist gave her a certificate for Glamour Shots (one of those places that does hair/makeup/clothes and takes pictures) as a reward for her hard work and surviving the braces. Her 16th birthday is in about 3 weeks so it would be fun outing!
    Middle child Bryan (13 years old) is on a traveling tournament baseball team and I swear that we have every weekend booked until the middle of December. Quite a few overnight-out-of-towners so that should be fun. We try to fit in a visit to various places on those trips (Winchester Mystery House, Monterey Bay Aquarium, etc.) so the boys don't get burned out on too much baseball. Our youngest, Cody - 12, travels with us but Melis usually goes to spend the weekend at Grandma's since she "hates" baseball.
    My rededication to LC from this summer is currently in a holding pattern. I haven't regained any of the 10 lbs. or so that I lost but I'm not still losing and the carbs that have been sneaking into my diet have got me headachey, shuggish and non-motivated. The stress level in my life is high right now on the marriage front and with client work and I just have a hard time not turning to carbs for comfort. Its not toooooo bad yet - I'm still drinking my gallons of water and decaf. ice tea daily and making mostly good meal choices (thank goodness that I really LIKE chicken salads, etc.) but the carbs slip in there every once in a while.
    I sure love my daily reading of all your adventures. What we share here is very special and I don't think it could be duplicated in the same way or on the same scale in the outside world. It is a unique thing that the world wide web has enriched our lives with.
    Kel
