What little creeps! And to think they have the gall to call your son. Did you know the people who did this, or know of them?

I had my purse stolen at Washington National Airport a few years ago, horrible experience. You feel as if you have been violated.

Please don't let this ruin your trip to see us and your family. I know this sounds selfish, but we really want to meet you. You have over a week to get duplicates of everything. You can do it!!

Since the little creeps have your SSN you need to put a alert on your credit report noting that you were robbed and all credit applications need to be double and triple checked. I think you can include up to a 100 word addition to your credit report with no charge, it needs to be done on the 3 major agencies.

I'm thinking about you.

janice, this is DISGRACEFUL and how DARE those cops tell you that there's nothing you can do. your post didn't mention whether they got hold of your credit cards... whether they did or not, cancel. just about all of them will send you another one very quickly.

and take deb's advice about the SSN.. they can now steal your identity and that's the biggest problem. all the other forms of ID, and the birth certificate, are easily replaced, just a pain in the patoot..

the fact that you at least have a description of these little. shhhhhhts is a big help, and i'm SHOCKED that the cops were so useless..

but really, the good news is that you are in one piece, and alive and well. and we'll have a great time in the sunny south very very soon...

Mama, that SUCKS what the heck do the police mean there's nothing they can do.....wholey crap, I'd hunt them down myself then. I mean you SS, your ID, BCertificate.....OMG I'd die. Maybe you need to go to a higher authority than the local police and report it. Maybe the cops know one of those little creeps.

You need to call the SS office NOW !!!!! and your credit cards, cell phone, etc !!!!!! and report this cause this is some serious ****.

Oh Janice!!!! I have heard that bad things happen to good people, but geez you have certainly suffered through more than your share! :cry: My heart just aches for you with all that you are going through. I'm with Jif, let's lynch the little SOB's! Do you know them? Don't let those police get away with "there's nothing to be done". That's BS! Good advice on the SS number and your identity--these days that is a problem. I am sending you many prayers and hugs and truly let us know if there is anything we can do to help you out. OMG!!! Janice!! I'm so glad you're OK!!! Stupid police--I can't believe they can do nothing--you know who they are!!! Grrr... would burn my butt too. I'm chiming in agreement with everyone else--protect your SSN!! (In Canada, it's called a SIN--no really! :lol:) You don't suddenly wnat all these charges appearing in your name and then you are in DEEP trouble. Get on the horn with the credit agencies, please!! As for the punks who did this--karma is a great thing--what goes around, comes around.

Thanks for the suggestion with the credit bureau-must admit that I had not thought about that! I was online cancelling the credit cards and then verified via telephone at midnight last night. The cell phone is turned off with a replacement to be delivered. It's the irreplaceable things that have me so upset.

My purse contains my life! It's surprising me of the little things that were in there that I can't replace. The most heartbreaking for me is a prayer card that Susie gave me over a year ago. Actually she lent it to me. It is a prayer card that her deceased mother had carried for years and gave to Susie shortly before she passed away. Phillips niece has a 1 yr old daughter. I found some old pictures that showed her mom holding her 30 yrs ago on her first b-day that I had planned to have duplicated, blown up and framed. You just can't replace those things.

How it happened-as briefly as I can tell you. On Tuesday nights we have a band at the ice house and dh and I cook in "the cooker". The cooker looks like one of those huge Regal cook trucks and is parked to the side of the building. It was about 9:30 and dh and I were getting ready to shut down but were double checking on the to go orders when 2 boys walked up and asked what we had. I was on the inside of the cooker-dh was in front of the order window. After they decided what they wanted I started cooking it (picture hot griddles and double friers & a fan going-very noisey) and dh went inside to make sure we had all the last minute orders. I heard a noise-turned around-looked out the order window-the boys were gone-instinct has me turn around and look for my purse-gone! The main door was open and the little punks stepped inside and snatched it and took off! Two witnesses saw the two run off and jump in a vehicle.

The reason the police said there's really nothing that can be done is that this is the vast city of Houston. They get calls like this all day long and the chances of finding these two are nill to none.

So, no, have no idea who these kids are. I think they were trying to figure out how to use my cell phone and accidentally hit the call button on my cell phone. I seldom use the phone and the only logged numbers are my home, dh and ds's cell numbers. My boys were at home and had no idea what had happened but when Michael saw my # on caller ID, answered and a guy named "Jack" answered he thought I had lost my phone. Stephen being as protective as he is with his mommy called back wanting to know what the heck he was doing with my phone.

I'm concerned about getting a valid picture ID before I leave next week. It takes 2-4 weeks to get drivers license or state id's here. I can only pray that my picture drivers license will come in time.

Tippy~your saying may sound corny but is true. I have told my mom for many years that I understand why God gave me these huge German shoulders!

And you know something. I've prayed so hard for Stephen to stay on the right path and realize all the crap he's put us thru that God and I had a talk last night. If going thru this will help make a difference in Stephens life....it's worth everything they took from me. Cause I'll have my son back! Now, how corny is that? lol

Oh, Janice! I'm so sorry you had to go thru this horrible experience! I sure hope some of your personal stuff will turn up somewhere (trashcan somewhere, maybe?) and some kind soul will contact you. It can happen - I've heard stories about it!

Be strong (we know how strong you are!) and things will turn out. Hope you get the ID you need before your trip.

Janice, I'm coming down there right now! The VERY IDEA!! Little punks, oughta be slapped. They will throw out all the good stuff that you can't replace. I had my purse stolen and then returned about a month later. They just want the money, and the credit cards are probably all toast because they expect them to be cancelled. I'm soooooooooooooo sorry this happened to you! Big hugs, girl!!

I am not usually on this thread but I read your post...
what a terrible thing to have happen to you! My heart goes out to you.

One thought though, everyone is right about your credit cards and record and ssn, but those people have your phone and your home number and your house keys, they can call and see if you are home (some of your ID may have your address on it) and may try to break into your home. I am only thinking of this because it happened to a girl in my office building.

I don't want to add to your worries but you may want to get your home number changed and the locks changed.

I hope things get better for you.

This just totally SUX! I'm just as pissed off as everybody else and I'm so sorry this has happened to you. I hope you can get it all straightened out so you can enjoy your trip.
